@chrismueller17342 жыл бұрын
get yourself a limiting strap s for the back end Def and put them on where the shocks are and put them on so they don't let the shock come all the way down and that will stop the drive shaft from coming out of the transmission it's pretty simple you can use anything you can use chain you can just go store and buy limiting straps you'll tell you how to put them on or you can use anything you want to you can use rope you can use whatever you want to just as long as it limits it from coming down too far to pull the drive shaft out of the transmission

Instead of building a 360 up I'd say he gets a 440 from an older Dodge and fully builds it so he gets more torque and more horsepower.
@turbodiesel47092 жыл бұрын
@@scottwexlin6456 : Hmmm... I'm not so sure on your 318 comment. I do agree with the rest. Wish someone had some actual documented proof. To my knowledge, the smaller displacement engines, the 4.2L (256cid) V6 gas and 5.2L (318cid) V8 gas, were only available in the 1500 series trucks. They were never available in any of the 2500's, light nor heavy duty. (Side note: Yes, I know the bigger 5.9L (360) V8 gas engine was an available option in the 1500 as well.) Anyhow, amongst several others, I own an unmolested 1995 Dodge Ram 2500LD. From the factory, my 2500LD has the larger (360cid) 5.9L Magnum V8 gas engine. It's backed by a 5-spd manual trans, and it's a 4x4. It also has a Dana 44 hybrid (8-lug) Front axle & Dana 60 full-floater Rear axle. They are NOT corporate axles. There are a ton of "hidden" differences between it (the 2500LD), and 1500 or 2500HD series trucks. She's a true factory "bastard" truck, IMO. Other than an added aftermarket lift kit, she's original & mechanically unmolested. In regards to the HD's... I know for an absolute fact that the 2500HD was only available with a 5.9L V8 gas, a 8.0L V10 gas, or a 5.9L I6 diesel. I've personally owned all 3 of those variants, and still currently own a few of them.

I'm really interested in seeing a truck with welded diffs all the way around and idk if it would work, but maybe even a welded transfer case
@rockdem0n2 жыл бұрын
There's no point in welding a t-case, it's already locks both driveshafts together. At least on the older ones any "part time" transfer case is almost always "locked", they did start doing some hybrid part time/full time things in the NEW newer trucks like the TRX but even those should be locked together in "part time" mode.
@turbodiesel47092 жыл бұрын
@Tre' Lee : You can't steer for shit, if you lock the front diff. Unless it's going to be strictly an off-road, straight-line, mud bogger, you don't ever wanna lock (or weld) the front differential. Furthermore, fully locked diffs will tear the vehicle apart in relatively short-order, from all the binding stresses & strains. The best answer for differential lockers are air lockers, with in-cab controls. They enable your truck to be good for both on & mild to wild off-road use.

I wouldn't swap a Cummins. I did it years ago and built up a massive 2nd gen dodge and wheeled the hell out of it all over the US. The right axles and gearing with the 360 gas is a better combo (other than the cool factor of a cummins diesel in a massive truck, it really draws a crowd sometimes). At minimum, get a degree ring and rotate the transfer case a few degrees. I'd also look into an offset ujoint for the front driveshaft and you can prob pull off a stocker, but you'd need lockouts to run it if you lock the front... and its only for low speed stuff. Thats all if you don't want to run a drop for the transfer case and all the necessary support.

I'm thinking that the Driveshaft is factory length and with that much lift, it was destined to come out. Because of the extreme angle of the drivelines, you should at least have driveshaft safety loops, (on the rear at least), so you don't end up going end over end because the driveshaft came out and then dug into the asphalt. Also because of the angles caused by the lift, adding a Constant Velocity Joint, (at least on the rear driveshaft anyway), would stop vibrations caused by extreme and/or mismatched angles of your drivelines. My recommendation would be to add it just behind the transfer case, rather than at the rear axle. With any luck, it also might just add the exact extra length needs, (because of the lift), so that you do not have to go out and have a custom driveshaft built for it as well...!!! I own a lifted 84 Toyota SR5 4x4 pickup, running 10 inches of lift and 38 TSL's and I have had to deal with these same issues on my truck. Now it drives like a dream, even at 100 + MPH, and more importantly, I feel safe driving it at those speeds.
