I am a very very lucky man. Not only to have Mrs JOMW, but to have the beautiful watch she bought me when we got engaged. Perhaps the value of it has been part of the reason it has taken me a while to settle in with it? Or maybe it was those bloody polished mid links...... Cheers, Jody

Scuffs and scratches are just signs you love it enough to wear it. For me, a watch that sits in a box or safe, because I want to keep it perfect is useless. That is a beautiful watch that will be a lasting symbol of your wife’s love. Cherish it forever!❤️

My wife bought me an Omega Chronostop when we got engaged. That was 48 years ago on the 1st of July. The watch and the marriage are still going strong. Two Seamster 300 have joined the collection since then but my Chronostop still gets worn. Reminds me that I must get it serviced 😂

Nice video! 👍👍 In Spain, the tradition has always been to buy the man a watch when you get engaged. My wife, who is Spanish, bought me a lovely watch in 1991. My mother in law bought my father in law an Omega in 1955, which we are currently having restored. Can’t wait to get it back! 😃

Jody, I bought my husband’s wedding ring and a watch when we got married. I didn’t have a love of money 25 years ago so I was proud that I had saved up and was able to do that for him. Unfortunately I didn’t know back then much about watch brands. Thanks to folks like you, I can buy him a quality watch. Thanks to you, in particular, I now know quality for the money can come at many different price points. Thank you for great content as always.

Not the everyday watch review. I love it if the watch is not only for sell but the emotional part of someones life. Suddenly the watch makes more sense. But also without the pre history of your watch, the Aqua Terra is an incredible watch itself.

Possibly my favourite video of yours Jody. The thing I love most about watch collecting is how the watches interact and intersect with everyday life. Most of the time, they are on the wrist to be enjoyed, but sometimes they become part of a bigger event or are a formative element of something special (as this watch clearly was in your engagement). The special watch in my collection is the eminently more humble but no less loved, Seiko SND255P1 'Flightmaster' Blue Dial bought for me by my wife when I got my PhD. As you mentioned in the video, I think I may start the tradition of the 'Diamond Anniversary Black Bay'. Thanks again Jody - and best to Mrs JOMW.

Jody, I pick up the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra for myself a few years ago, in the midnight blue (date at 3 O’clock) with the polish centre links, but knew that I also wanted to wear the watch on occasion on the blue leather strap. I did a bit of negotiating with the Omega boutique (Oxford Street London) and came away with a fantastic Omega and my “free” XL leather strap. The watch looks nice on the bracelet but I agreed it would look even better with brushed links vice the polished (centre links) but when I put it on the beautiful blue Omega leather strap it looks out of this world. A true keeper and one of the most versatile timepieces I have ever seen or owned (from the seaside, to casual, to a suit and tie, as well as a tuxedo) it is truly a one watch for all occasions.

I so made the right decision! 41mm has 20mm lug width so I can easily change straps so you don't scratch up those polished mid-links!! Mine is the 8900 movement and is currently running pretty much at -1 second per day. It's my first serious Swiss watch (I don't really count my Tag F1!) and like yours, it's definitely a keeper!

Hi Jody, great story! I have the blue 38.5mm Aqua Terra from the previous generation with the framed date window (aka the Skyfall) and wholeheartedly agree that these are beautiful watches, absolutely stunning. The older generation has the brushed mid links but it'd be hard to find that bracelet alone at a reasonable price. It also has the calibre 8500 which I find runs fast during the cold winter months, so this movement definitely has some quirks to it but still an awesome watch!

Snap! I also received my Aqua Terra as an engagement present from my then fiancée (now my wife). We went to the Omega boutique in central London together where I chose the 38.5mm blue "Skyfall" 8500 (ref. 231.10.39.21.03.001), and I have been in love with it ever since. I wore it on my wedding day, despite it having been overtaken by a Rolex Sub 16600 that I picked up at a later date (was my grail watch at the time). Despite having strong competition in the collection (the sub has since been sold and various other models purchased) it's this piece that has cemented its place as a keeper. My version was released just before the polished centre links (which I also dislike) so aesthetically it's perfect in every area. I still think the AT is an underrated watch in lots of ways so it's always good to see it getting some profile. Enjoy yours and thanks for sharing the story :)

This is already a tradition in Turkey. Usually bride's father (or family) buys a good quality watch. It depends on economic power of the family, of course. My father in law bought me Longines Master Collection 44mm;which is heavy but lovely watch

Polished middle links are the reason why I went for the first gen. model. And I did the right thing, the watch is awesome and it serves me as a daily wear/beater, but also for some more formal occasions. And I like the plain black dial, very understated but nevertheless beautiful. So, that's what I suggest to anyone : if you don't like the blingy parts of newer bracelets, just go for the older model, instead of hating or butchering the fine watch.

Thumbs up for the new tradition. I missed the boat on that one (happily married), but did use my wedding as a handy excuse to pick up my grail watch.

Always love Omega's from the time I got a Seamaster in 1966 for my 21st birthday complete with rice grain bracelet. This was followed by a Speedmaster Moonwatch and finally a 1970's Omega Deville Quartz GP with integral bracelet. Added a Rolex Datejust, Tudor Day-Date and a Corum 'Jolly Roger' Bubble Chronometer 1 of 500 (Birthday present frommy wife). Added a Pagani Design Submariner two tone with blue dial after reading your reviews and finally a Casio Royale. Love the videos, keep up the good work, all the best from the UK

I recently sent to Omega a lovely white-dialed Constellation I'd picked up for an amazing price from a fellow addict because it was running so massively slow. They not only changed a bunch of parts (barrels, spring, crown, handset and other things I can't identify) but they also polished out a deep scratch on the lug. Now it runs perfectly and since it was all under warranty, there was no cost to me. I'd advise you get yours back to Omega asap.

Thanks for sharing. Nice ride over the years. I have recently become enamoured with the AT but white dial with blue hands.

Love this watch. Definitely one to save for. The George Daniels link really adds to the desirability in my opinion.
