Brings back memories. I owned an '85 T/A with WS6 suspension. In '91 I started upgrading components. Tubular A-Arms, trailing arms, panhard bar and torque arm. Springs, swaybar and quick ratio steering box were from Guldstrand. When it came to the shocks, I went with Monroe Formula GP. At the time the price was right and so was the performance. But even with all these upgrades, the damn thing twisted like a branch in the wind when going over uneven surfaces and rattled in protest. The unibody wasn't enough when you removed roof structure for the t-tops. So the addition of sub-frame connectors and a tubular transmission mount solved all those issues. In '96 I started on the conversion from a 305 carb to a 350 FI. Once done, it had a modest 380HP and it took months of fighting with the CARB in CA to approve the swap. The idiots denied it because I had a dual cat setup when their books show it to be a single cat. So they made me take one off to receive approval and the exhaust number went up. They didn't care about the added pollution, all they cared about was if I had done it to the specs they had in their books. Anyway, It was a fun car. I do miss it as I sold it in 2000.

The video shows how important good shocks are to the handling. And that also includes grip under acceleration and braking. I have had Koni yellows for 150t km and they still work fine. Did take them off some years ago and asked Koni to test if they were still ok. I thought that they can't last that long. But they where just fine so did put them back on. So the extra money was well spent.

🌴From my experience with shocks in the rear I would have went to the 3rd setting and a bigger bump stop and any other possibilities to greatly improve the rear ends abililty to take jumps with ease .I ya know have experienced air in my 3rd gen Z28 Camaro and it would bottom out where a Mustang of the same era would take the very same jumps with a full car load of people & take it with zero problems & preparedness take it and ready for more where the Z28 Camaro would completely easily also I'd like to add would slam if you weren't experienced but still would bottom out and take out the transmount mount & rubber bushing.So I am paying very close attention for I'm subscribed because I love my ride and am fully immersed into every possible improvement and all of the Z28's past characteristics why and how come what can be done what works.I absolutely love going back and can with your channel.I really think you nailed the 80's style music in this video and hey if I can be of the exact same assistance and help you to better hone in on the accuracy and connects to that area I'm all for it. 🐿️But from what I have seen the rear shock in my opinion was that easy new used and really really old.I don't think your really seeing any difference from the Chevy stock settings of that year and area. I know Koni are a Road Race shock and there the it shock to get for real performance for a 1st time for the 3rd gen's in my opinion and from my experience.🌮 I ask for your understanding in respect to the jumps I have made that the road was smooth and really laid out well to jump with ease and full control perfectly crafted mini hills not super killer jumps but was laid out so well you could get really good and the Z28 did land perfectly no heavy front end drops due to the perfectly crafted road.🦖 So bottoming out is a priority of mine to fix and wonder if on the 3rd setting that it would remedy the situation or is there I'm sure there is & I love it but are the Koni's up to the task. Also turning was terrible for a hard right that a Mustang of the same area would nail no problem and from my experience would only be able nail a 60 degree turn with no problems and has potential for road racing but turning has got to improve greatly. 🐄I know it is a macpherson strut design one of my top secret thoughts were can you get McPherson setup for the rear. Without a doubt a strut tower brace is needed and for me looking for other weaknesses in the subframe,will a tubular design make the difference and who's making it and what options are available. 🦛I truly enjoy your vids and look forward to getting my Z28 back.I'd like to say I have an most excellent choice that I feel even you would not glance at and feel it will be the unicorn in the building Silverstone style in the area.I pay attention and truly feel I've picked a winner.That is something I would like to share with you.This may take 5 years from now to have something to work with but I respect your channel and I know your going to be around and can't wait to get somewhere and meet up make some things happen. 🍕There rear shock top mount going to a way wider polyurethane bush and a much thicker washer I feel is ideal along with a rear tower brace painted exactly how is at the most top secret ya know. Good Job 😎

The Konis seem like a good product and I love your video. Very honest and upfront. Unfortunately it's gonna be a long time before I can put Koni shocks on my 1988 Camaro as I did not expect them to be over $700. I didn't expect them to be cheap but I also didn't expect them to be half of what I paid for my car. Right now the tired old 305 needs the love more. Probably hunt either a 350 or a 5.3. Rather keep her looking stock tho and it's not going to be a racecar. I genuinely enjoy driving mine with the simple old tech of a small block Chevy. Keep up the great work. I look forward to your 3rd Gen content.

And then put a sticker on the back hatch that says " cash for clunkers" and under that a pic of Gretta Thunberg with her saying " How dare you !" 😂🤣

gut the interior so it will blend in at the trailer park when you are pretending its a race car because it has air shocks , flipped breather lid,sawzalled off stock 2" single exhaust,k+n for the extra 100 horsepower,ugly ass neon and leds everyfuckingwere amazon racing seats ,horrible stickers and ugly rims sticking way out with shit fitment. hint,please no for the love of god.make the car look stock and go like fuck,its much better and people will give you thumbs up,respect,admiration,jealousy and offer to buy it when you get sick of it for serious money. gut the interior and everyone will hate it,piss on it,laugh at it or run into it because its idiocy.stupid as fuck idea,it aint a race car and will have horrendous road noise and look like dogshit

1le front sway bar and a 1le rear sway bar wjich is 1" orrr a 94 and up 3\4" rear z-28 bar. Another massive leap forward. Factory junk rear bars were 1\2 inch

? this car has a 32 to 34 mill giant sway bar and a beefy rear bar,upgrades aren't necessary AT ALL.new bushings and end links are good but the swaybars are perfect.

Thanks for the info, that’s one of my next upgrades for my 84 Z28. That’ll be the shock I go with. How hard is it to adjust the rears once they are installed? Thanks
@lsxmatt4 жыл бұрын
I haven’t tried yet, but you’ll need to unhook the bottom of the shock from the axle to twist it.

if you use the 4th gen 93-02 f body rear shocks you dont need to remove them to adjust they can be done on car if this is a concern then you need to buy 3rd gen konis for the front and 4th gen for the rear

Whoo-hoo mice poop! Nice to see that Koni hooked you up on this one with some new adjustables! Gonna have to go back through your vids to find out which brand of body jack that is because I. NEED. IT. /spongebob BTW What camera mount are you using for your phone on the roof there?
@lsxmatt4 жыл бұрын
The lift is from Quick Jacks. The mount is magnetic and I just got it off amazon. It probably won’t work as well once I have a headliner😂

Are you going to install an Astro steering shaft in it to get rid of the rubber biscuit that the stock one has? That's the next thing that I'm doing to my 86' T/A.
@trillrifaxegrindor44114 жыл бұрын
make sure you keep ALL YOUR ORIGINAL STUFF....many do this astro shaft mod and hate the fuck out of it.seriously just buy a new rag joint and make sure your entire suspension,steering,tie rods,ball joints,steering box isnt sloppy as fuck.
