Alexei Frolov is a fantastic coach. Discovered his channel by pure luck about a year ago and follow his content religously. He has a lad,Alim, I think we will see him somewhere in the future. Also Tom Yankello is a top coach who has a great way of teaching all levels. Easy to understand. There was a channel Sparta Boxing Academy but I can't find them anymore. They have a similar style to Frolov. Russian style side steps ect. Short videos though.

The reason alot of UK fighters don't understand the ussr system is, it's based on being completely nimble, alot of UK fighters tend to be abit more speed and impact obsessed, or just having fast hands. Trainers like Alexey Frovlov, perfect every bit of your movements and make sure you don't do anything unnecessary and you waste no excess energy. Very fine tuned training. If you look at amateur boxers and pros from that region they're always nimble and light on their feet. Like Loma, GGG, bivol, kovalev, usyk, etc... And all the Cuban fighters

I would say he is quite set in his teaching of certain punches being thrown I dont think they would suit all.. especially HW boxers but he really is a master.. Kudos on introducing people to trainers who are, essentially, your competition (e.g. if they have products, you may be sending money their way). But it goes to show that you care a lot about the art itself. And should it turn out that people 'connect' more with them, then great. It means that you essentially helped people become better in what can be a very dangerous sport. Reminds me of the Santa from Miracle on 34th Street (with a bit less hair :D)

I am a definite fan of this channel, I totally agree with the channels listed, just adding a few. I miss my coach, a coach of many, so much, having passed, also, a great person, but an Olympic Silver Medalist ( a round short of gold ), the great Cuban boxer that caught him, after dominating, in the third round, who became world champion, as a heavyweight, competed in the 1976 Olympics, got to meet other medalists, boxers, coaches, from other countries, such as Raymond Leonard (sugar of course), Michael and Leon Spinx, John Tate and the list, from all countries, just incredible. Like many, he taught, for next to nothing, financially, which many do, but the takeaway, I hope, from this post, is that older, should mean experienced, not washed up, like many think. I miss him profoundly. What other videos, in kind of a series, not necessarily channels, I don't think, but are great, include Freddy Roach videos, which are many, FightSmartTrav that focusing on boxing, but also self-defense applications, that don't hurt, any tips are welcomed, regarding boxing anything, ExpertBoxing and likely a ton of others out there.* I also, really like this guy, named Fran Sands. I like, to look at a wealth of great channels, video compilations, looking for techniques in common, suggestions in common, any aspects in common, as that to me, I suppose, obvious, is fundamentally agreed. I am adding to a great, great list, even just to check out and it helps reinforce, what my coach, taught me, but sadly gone, so I GENUINELESS APPRECIATE IT ALL and THIS CHANNEL. Why add, my teacher, or even note it? Looking at his wall of pictures, with personal best wish notes, icons, was worth the low, cost of admission, he has no ego, that age, means experience and when I offer advice, to some, if I have it, it was passed down, so credentials seem to always be in question, which is fine, nobody wants bad advice, but it is passed along advice, more, than from me. Not watching the Freddy Roach videos, to me, is silly, but, that is subjective, given it is free and he is a Hall of Fame Coach. * You are awesome Fran! Huge fan! All the best! Be safe, to all!
@robcourtnall53323 жыл бұрын
I should have added, that watching really great boxers, to me, is so valuable, for learning, especially those, that are fundamentally sound and successful. Fran why is it that there is so much confusion on the different ways to teach boxing? I'm currently using your boxing training foundation in my spare time due to me not being able to attend a gym due to working a lot of hours. I'm still a rank beginner and this is something I just use as an interesting form of cardio but I've been to the odd few gyms before and a lot of them seem to teach contradictory things. I've seen different things from standing more square, standing basically like a fencer, throwing more hooks, putting everything you have into every punch, not putting any kind of power into the punches to score points, starting combinations with the right hook, never doing sparring and only doing fitness, only doing hard sparring. I know there's different ways to skin a cat but a lot of the time these seem to go beyond a ''style'' stand point and just contradict themselves. I'm from a small town in yorkshire so maybe it could be a geographical thing but I guessed you would be able to give me insight as i'm not that far from you. Is it just that the standard of English Boxing coaches are low? Is it that a lot of ex boxers open their own gyms without really being coaches? I enjoy your boxing training foundation course because it gives me a set path as to which skills to gain to achieve the fastest results and then build upon things from there. Your course seems logical to me and it feels like it would be logical to implement these foundational things from the get go (kind of like how you'd learn to pass, shoot, tackle in football) but whenever I've been to a gym in real life I've had a complete mixed bag. You've spoke about the soviet system of boxing which I see a lot of parallels to the way you teach beginners. Do you think there will ever be an organised system of teaching boxing in the UK like this and Why is there so many different things going on when new people start to learn the sport? Sorry for the long winded comment lol
@myboxingcoach4 жыл бұрын
No worries Tom. So there are a host of different ways to do things, but core principles remain. So, for example, your weight should never go forward. Square stance is ok at close range, but not at long range. Flat feet are bad...the list goes on. There is an issue in people purporting to be coaches, but coaching is a skill that is learned in a structured way be teaching lots of people over a long time. An ex-boxer is not a coach. They can become a coach, took me 2 years to stop thinking like a boxer and start thinking like a coach. We also have PTs who do a coaching qual, but never coach boxers. SO, there is a real mix. 99% of the time a good amateur boxing gym will have qualified coaches who are good at what they do. Think of this. In Eastern European boxing they teach 6 different stance variations, all of which could be used at different points during a single contest. Versatility. Step one, learn in one way (that's where BTF will help). After that you can experiment, but all built upon solid fundamentals. Hope this helps Tom.

Alexi Frolov is amazing isnt he - he is my favourite
@rockd28084 жыл бұрын
All 5 good alexy Frolov is a professor of Boxing , but he has a unique jumping style when punching which is very difficult to change if you learn for years how to set down into punches he advocates jumping into a punch with a high straight leg stance. Also movements come from arm shoulder not much hip twisting. I find it awkward, Good for amateur style though not good for pro style.i personally thinks hes great but hard to adjust to that style after many years of learning different style.
@Xvz712 жыл бұрын
It’s a style that requires you to have amazing conditioning of your ankle connective tissue and calf muscles. You have to have a great understanding of how to make your body become elastic when countering punches while in pendulum. You can be in pendulum and instantly have to shift your weight to your back foot when a shot is coming to you and pop back with a counter like a spring. I’m sure you know it’s basically a pull counter. A pull counter is an explosive movement, it needs to be fast. definitely requires a lot more stamina because being in pendulum for most of the fight is very taxing. It has a lot of success in the amateurs though. A lot of Kazakhstan fighters fight in pendulum for the majority of the fight. It looks very technical, it’s my fav style. Almost like a mongoose attacking a cobra type of style.

Hi there mate. Spoken to you couple weeks back. Asking if your gym was in liverpool... I've dabbled in abit of thai boxing and early last year started a local boxing gym. Something happened in my family so I was unable to go. Things are fine now but I am just pondering going back because of my age 39?? I am in reasonably fit condition quite lean as I like to keep fit and eat right. But really at 39 is there any point. Wish I did it back in my teens and stuck with it. I have always been drawn to boxing. My uncle and grandad were also boxers in there day. They both have passed away in the last 5 years. It's like I've always had an itch for boxing but never got round to scratching that itch. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Great channel by the way. Daz. Altrincham

@@h4z do you mean as in coached guys in the corner? not sure but JT is an online coach hes a savvy ass canadian and people can learn a lot online, its good to have both. Its tough to find a good coach in gyms, they all look and sound tough but they fail to teach their fighters so many things, they think looking fancy on the mitts is going to make a boxer win his bouts. Ive seen so many coaches throw kids in the ring wihthout even teaching mechanics of anything, no offense or even defence skills
