Pushing the bag forward to create a swing is done intentionally to help the combos land better, right? Therefore the initial jab or straight doesn’t cause the bag to move but to actually come to more of a stand still, making the hooks etc easier to connect

I'm not using a heavy bag yet, only drills in front of a mirror. I have a question, does drills in gloves give me something? Or should I use it only on pads and bag?

Inoue has thrown i think my favourtie combo ever, it was the combo he used to finish Luis nery, my god! left hook, right uppercut, right straight, the left and uppercut were almost throw aways, and in the process of him scrambling nerys brain with the first 2 punches, he didnt even see the right straight even tho he was right infront of it, the combo is thrown so loose and fluid, the right even has half a second delay, just for perfect timing! the right isnt even thrown hard, just perfect and he crumbles him with pure timing and technique! Beautiful combo to watch!

I ask with the greatest respect but doesn’t the lay back with a bend in the leg make you more off balanced as opposed to a layback from the waist? - my feet feel more firmly planted using my waist
@Kaithe72 күн бұрын
New to boxing but laying back at the waist was my biggest mistake sparring. Cant move very well or throw punches from there, and my opponent would press me and i would kinda get stuck

Cheers Fran! I've been watching old Mike Tyson training videos, and I'm blown away by his windshield wiper slips. I know everyone says to slip, are there any times you'd recommend slipping like Mike, or is there no major benefits you would advise for doing it?

Excellent video, Fran! I send it to all my boxing gym buddies who try hard to destroy the heavy bag with hooks and in the ring get frustrated because they lack basic footwork and simple defense and gasp for air after 1 minute tired by fancy body movements and strong haymakers borrowed from their idol, Canelo.

Hi Fran, just here to pester you again. I have 2 more questions if that's OK? First one being, is this known as half stepping or is this something else? Also, in theory, during the step, could you stay in that widened stance for a couple or a few punches before withdrawing it or committing to stepping in with the back foot?
@myboxingcoach9 күн бұрын
Hi Stefan, no worries. I suppose it could be described as a half step. In terms of follow up, if the step was small enough you may be able to deliver a back hand. You could certainly bring a lead hand hook of the jab.

This is beautiful and I remember practicing these basics when I first started boxing, having good fundamentals is the key to being a good boxer , as I became more advanced I realized that none of the flashy stuff matters, mastering the basics is the most important
@myboxingcoach9 күн бұрын
I could not agree more, and I never tire of coaching the basics, provides a great platform for the boxer to do all the other 'learning by doing'. Thanks pal 👍

Some advice - don't compare yourself with me or anyone else. Compare yourself with the you of a month ago, or 3 months ago. As long as you are learning and gradually improving, that's your only responsibility 👍
