My 5 (not so scary) Tips for Downsizing Your Bag!!!

In this video I'm going over my top 5 tips to downsizing my bag!! I'm a big bag babe, so carrying a smaller bag is a bit outside of my comfort zone; however, I've found that with these tips, it's become more than manageable...it's actually enjoyable!!

I love your tips. One of my tips is that you can always put a small bag inside your car for things like first aid items if you panic at the thought of not having them. I'm a mom of 3 and we have injuries and accidents, I used to fret about going smaller until a friend clued me into that tip. I usually just put all the extras in a insulated lunch style bag so it's there if I need anything. That way you have your items but don't have to lug them around....great video. I am a handbag junkie lol

I love that tip!! Especially in an insulated bag to just keep everything at a decent temp if storing in the car, I'm definitely going to have to try that!! I've also done it where I carry a smaller handbag within a bag, and I'll only take the small bag in with me places. I call it purse-ception!! Thank you so much for watching and for the tip!! :D

Packable/collapsible bags (pouches or the bag itself) minimize bulk/weight tremendously. Also work great when traveling as an extra bag to bring home items you bought during your trip! Also, my favorite notebook/pads are Moleskine Cahier Journals (I use the 5x8.25” Ruled version) because they’re soft, super flexible, open completely flat, and most importantly, have a stitched binding! They’re a great alternative to hardcover planners, even spiral notebooks with plastic covers you don’t want to bend. The 5x8.25” is perfect for notes or planning and overall the Cahier style slips into coat/bag pockets really easily!

I got the PopWallet from PopSocket so I keep my credit cards, license, etc, on the back of my phone with one bill. And for rewards cards I downloaded an app to keep all of them on my phone. You just scan your phone and go!

I love those card keepers for the back of the phones!! Seriously so convenient for sure!! I haven’t seen the ones by PopSocket, so I’ll have to check those out!! The app for rewards is awesome!! 🙌

what you explained at the beginning is EXACTLY what happened to me, its a hard habit to break and I still need to get over the anxiety of both having everything I could possibly need for any given situation however my back is paying for it and I'm not even 30 yet.

I totally get that - I've actually been on a month hiatus due to severe, chronic back pain. I've really taken to backpacks lately, thus the fjallraven, but I've tried to be conscious of what I'm carrying. But it is a hard habit to break - in college I had to leave the house with everything I could need that day, so it just became habit to pack my entire world up in my purse! now it's a comfort thing to just have everything and the kitchen sink in my bags!

@@GirlinPursesuit yup me too, I got the habit of PA king for being out of the house all day and, well you know, same exact thing here lol. I honestly believe you could make use of the mini to force you to be more concious of how much you're carrying

irene therealbeautysecret my bags tend to get so heavy, I will leave them in the car as opposed to taking them in places! But it’s even more noticeable when you make it a habit to carry less! Ziplock bags make great pouches. They lock, they are transparent so you can see what is inside, and you can fold any of the plastic around the contents. Two or three of them can take up the same amount of space that a pouch takes up.

Girl in Pursesuit Yes, and LIGHT to carry! One package of them costs way less than any pouch that you will find, and one bag can last for ages. I do not like to carry ballpoint pen (the bane of bag lovers everywhere) inside my beautiful bags, but what else can you do? I wrap my ballpoints in a sandwich size, and then I can even put that one inside quart size.

Barbara JL O'Riordan agreed - much cheaper and the slide top ones really do last a long! I’m the same - I have to have pens on me, sometimes even highlighters at some points! I always try to be careful, but I’m still so nervous. I like your idea of putting them in sandwich bags though! I’m gonna try that!

Great tips! Just wanted to add, not all sunscreen is photostable. When putting sunscreen in a new container it is best to use something that is opaque. Exposure to light could degrade some sunscreen and decrease efficacy. Stay safe!

I just got the lug minuet wallet from a thrift shop and I think its great, got a slot for 8 cards and cash and a generous coin zip whilst still remaining flat ( which is a plus for me since I carry a lot of coins for pool tables) and still want it to not take up a lot of room I'm my bag

Girl in Pursesuit yes!! Check to see if your local library has Overdrive. You can borrowed a ton of fantastic books from the e-library that way and delivers directly to your kindle. Did you get a paper white or regular Kindle?

I call my backpack the war bag. I am dealing with a rotator cuff issue and need to lightening up my bag but i take public transit. I will need a second bag for winter gear. I also REFUSE to leave the house without water. I was in an emergency room with covid and was denied water for over 6 hours. Sunglasses year found are a must. Im so confused what ro buy.

Have you looked/considered MZ Wallace bags?? I like them because they’re very organized, so you can use built in pockets in lieu of pouches to lighten your load. Plus, the bags are a teapot durable nylon but also extremely lightweight, so it really doesn’t weigh you down. As much as I adore a good leather bag, the weight of them alone can be a nuisance at times. I didn’t know about MZ Wallace when I made this video, if I had, I would have highlighted it! Hi Erica! I posted over on the last video this week about the mini cross body bags being back in stock...didn’t know if you saw it. I am living the downsizing and I find the mini is really a stretch for me but I weeded down a lot and am making it work. A couple things I do: the app CardStar holds all your store reward cards and frees up the keys. I love it. I use the kindle app on my phone to save from carrying books. I’m using light weight pouches. I got the PLG eclipse makeup bag but it’s a little too much with my checkbook wallet which I really love so I am using a Vera Bradley soft fabric pouch and it’s working great. Loved this video girl and would also enjoy the fit box unboxing. 👍😀

Marie Sirk Hi Marie!! YES!! I’m so happy they’re back in stock!! May be treating myself...😁 I remember our conversation wherein we talked about downsizing and that it can be difficult! It’s hard when you just feel like you may need it so you should carry it, you know?? I’ve never heard of the CardStar app - I’m definitely downloading that, that’s so useful!! Vera Bradley wallets/pouches are great, very organized and lightweight - I found the vintage bee pattern from her at a thrift store last year, and it’s been one of my favorites!! I will definitely be posting the FabFitFun video - I think you guys would love that box!! So much great stuff they give!!

Marie Sirk I almost wonder if it’s a play on the light they may be using and it’s a little darker in person?? I have a Kate Spade bag that looked bright yellow online and turned out to be more of a lime color in person - so I’d be curious if that’s what’s at play here too 🤔 my concern would be the leather finish, only because I’d what something that light to be in a heartier more rugged finish in case something gets on it, versus the velvety feel of the merlot! I can’t really tell in the pics, so I’m likely going to email and ask! I still love the papaya though....SO HARD!!

Girl in Pursesuit you know, it might be...good idea to write and ask. I think while using this mini is the right way to go for now with my back I really miss a tote...I got a medium honey tote before I got the mini and it feels like a nice size...not too big or too small...I think I want to see what fall colors come out and get a dark tote...would love grizzly if they bring it back or else I’d go with cognac. I do like that I have lightened my load up to just what I need. Your tips were good! 👍

I used to carry a big handbag on my walking frame until I went shopping and realised its a pain trying to balance shopping on a frame with a handbag. So I downsized to a little wristlet bag which I hang on the handle bar. I've done alot of customising on my walking frame to make it easier to use. However I got stopped in a shop for using my walking frame as a shopping trolley. So it's back to the drawing board to work out how to keep all my needs and balance a see through basket on the seat on the frame. So far I've not had a solution as the basket keeps falling off.

I’m so hoping you find a solution to this! I wonder if you strung up/zip tied a cosmetics pouch to either side of the frame if that might work? Maybe attach D rings to either side and that’s how you can string up the pouch? I’ll keep thinking on this and let you know if I can come up with any ideas for you!!

Hi Jacqueline! I wanted to follow up with you - I found this company called understood_leather - that's their instagram tag, I am not sure if they have a website (I'll try and find one); however, they had this amazing bag that could be attached to a bicycle frame so I imagine it could then be strapped to a walking frame. Plus, the design was actually beautiful! I wish I could post a pic, but I cannot, unfortunately! However, maybe something to consider! :)

All my cards are stored digitally and my hand sanitiser and lip balm are both in keychain holders on the outside of my bag

I'm leaning towards storing more of my cards digitally as well!! I've added my debit and credit cards and also my rewards cards!! And i've really gravitated towards a digital calendaring system although I still very much love stationary!!

they do!! shortly after creating this, someone turned me on to Sto Card, and I love that app!! I've also really tried gravitating towards digital planning - my phone will send me notifications, my planner won't! however, i love a good old fashioned pen and paper still, but I'm learning to transition for sure!! @@ahall6091 mine did not - it definitely was more deeper brown; however, I know that all cuts of leather can be a bit different!! I love the grizzly too!! It's seriously such hard choice, trust me, I totally get it!!
