I share my 5 year VW Golf R history in one video!
This involves everything from servicing all the way to the pros and cons of the car over the last 5 and half years.
My car is a MK7 Golf R in 3 door with a manual gearbox purchased in 2017 and if you want to know more please watch this video in full. I’ve been thinking of a golf R 7.5 for a while (currently have a petrol focus ST 2017) but I do a lot of miles (40K a year) and so looking at all the reviews saying 25-30mpg was a little worried till I came across one of your vids detailing that driving it sensibly on a long run you can achieve 40+ and still have your fun outside of that has helped me to put this at the top of my list. Really interesting to see a decent real world review documenting what is achievable. Lots of people say nobody buys a golf R and worries about mpg or buy something else. But I’ve always been a petrol head and want a fast car but have to do the higher mileage so this is a major consideration. Great channel well done.

Thank you for your comment and sharing your thoughts. I can certainly recommend the R and from past experiences with Focus ST's economy will not be too dissimilar. The EcoBoost engines are not actually as eco as the name suggests. It does depend on your driving style but I have managed 500miles out of a full tank of fuel (averaging around 45mpg I believe) This was on a long motorway stretch from London to Scotland but it does show that it is possible. I plan to restart my series of answering comments in a video to share with everyone. It is called "Sam Talks Cars" so feel free to keep an eye out as I plan to start this in the first week of January 2023 to help. Iv had my manual 2015 eight months now and love it, just coming up to 67000 and love it 👌🏻 big bills are always a worry though with these. Mines 5door and the kids love it 👍🏻

Many congrats on your ownership so far! So with VW I mentioned it to them but like all the other things they just ignored it unfortunately.....Really happy with the R though 👍

I had a MK7 ST, then a MK7.5 GTI and then an M140i (and now another M140i after a little gap). Nice to hear about the history, pretty interesting to see what they were worth new back then vs what an equivalent one would be now! £25k does not get you near a Golf R on 1k miles. I also used to watch Jay Kay, enjoyed his videos even way before I had my GTI - it's a shame he stopped uploading, they were nice casual videos :)

Glad you have found the video interesting! I did see Jay Kay did a video within the last 12momths but did not follow it up. Hopefully he comes back and it's nice to see an owner keep a car for the long term as it is quite rare👍

You got it for an amazing price and it is one of the best cars, at that price point, that has been made …..full stop. Ultimately though, it is really about how it makes you feel about yourself…… and you love your car. I have an old camper and a 2022 RS3. They both make me feel good about myself and …..I am nearly dead at twice your age. Go for it young man.

…. Oh yes and one of the cars that I owned for 10 years (as a family man) was a diesel Hyundai Trajet. It never went wrong … ever….but it made me feel like s*** …… you get my point…
