Good tips,I noticed with 4c type ladies we are always cutting and trimming, trimming and cutting our hair, I used to be guilty of that too, my hair never looked like it would grow, now I DO NOT cut my hair, not unless absolutely necessary, finally Im starting to see a difference in length retention .

Colorful Bird I don't think she meant it like that. She probably has had that same experience, like I have . Within a few hours I went from thick waist length to armpit length because of heat damage. To me she's laughing at the irony of our beautiful hair type (looks so resilient but damages so easily) and not because of what happened to our sister's hair.

Your hair is lovely! I am on this growing my hair so it grows down rather than out. I NEED to learn how to cainrow. I've had my hair in afro for so many years I honestly do not know any different anymore, however I still need to learn the various up keep and ways to grow it. I've been hearing about this rice water business. I'm sitting here now with my small fro and rice water (I love the smell of it by the way, it doesn't bother me. To me its an earthy smell). I'm grateful for these platforms that are showing black women how to maintain their hair. I remember the days when it was not cool to have your hair natural and females use to turn their nose up at me or look at me in digust. Nice to see a movement of women embracing their natural hair also. Keep up the good work.

Im doing the same thing right now; I cant even pinpoint why I my ends seemed kinda randomly thinned out (still thick, just not like it used to be) and some spots just have plain old breakage. It is likely due to a weave that I got in February (second time in my life ever, and my first lace front ever.. no it wasn’t glued down it was sewn in). Your strategy is also actually recommended in an old school natural hair guru’s (were talking 90s early 2000s here!) book called “Grow it”. She says that the salons will tell you to cut it, trim it and all that jazz, especially when your hair is long! but she says you SHOULD NOT cut it or trim it and instead go into protective styling/deep care mode to allow the short hairs to “catch up” to the longer ones to fill in the hair. It makes sense that cutting it wont necessarily fix anything; all the hairs on your head is not growing at the same rate because all of your hair follicles are not in the same hair cycle at the same time. I think its a great strategy to length retention and I’m doing it right now! I’ve done it for about 6-7 weeks and can already see the difference. Protective style for a week or two, finger detangle, light rinse/deep condition or protein treatment, and protective style (no ends out) again.
@kenyalank6 жыл бұрын
Update: I just took my hair “down” to detangle for the first time in ~8 weeks and IM SO GLAD I USED THIS STRATEGY. It’s thickened back up, those short pieces in the crown grew in and are long enough to blend, AND it’s longer and thicker! Don’t cut it ladies, just go into protective mode!

Your hair is looking great. I think you’re the first person that I have watched that recommends to not cut the hair right away. I like this. I think some people are too quick to cut, and then they fail to learn what to do to keep their hair healthy so they end up the same place. I’m going to try this. If I buy the rice water shampoo and conditioner can I still make and use my own rice water or would that be over kill? For example: shampoo first, then follow with my own mix of rice water, then follow with the rice water conditioner, followed by a home made leave in? Please advise. I’m on a hair mission and once given the green light I’m on.

Hello, do protein treatments once or twice a month to help strengthen your hair strands. That should help in preventing breakage. Also keep up the moisture in your hair.
@shellyreynolds89486 жыл бұрын
ECSTATIC you didn't join in on the KZbin fake shit of chopping your hair off for views. When anyone with sense knows, that's NOT something you need to do. Rather you have a set back, or are just learning how to handle your natural hair. There is no reason to have to chop it off, and start all over to do it.
