As a 14 year old that has been playing drums for 4 years. I can tell you that the Band teachers I had always hated the drums because they always thought of them as just an annoying instrument and one day just kicked my whole percussion class out of the classroom and told us to learn some “real music.” After that day I have always hated band class.

in 5th grade we had a very bad music teacher. He gave us a shit ton of work,screamed at everyone but especially me because this one time i played the wrong note on the flute, made kindergarteners and 1st graders play some really complex stuff, and freaking tortured us. But just like you said how we have to lie sometimes to get what we want, this one kid told the principal a lie about how he was touching little kids, which led him to be fired. That kid is now considered a hero.

I'm so sorry that you had to go through that. I'm lucky enough that my school has only had good band directors, but I fully understand how that feels. Pulling out the "you're making noise, not music" is the worst insult a musician can get, and nobody should be saying that, especially to young children. Hopefully one day you can pursue music in spite of your old band director

@TheTalentlessWriter, when I was in band I played the trumpet thanks to my middle school teacher, I had good skills and felt Thankful that she taught me. When I got to high school I could play crazy stuff and tricks with the trumpet, one time I was playing high notes and my high school band teacher yelled at me to stop because it was squeaking loud and would hurt myself, which kinda pissed me off because what's wrong with hitting a couple of high notes. He never gave me an award or recognize me in some of his concerts and he knew I work hard to gain. Not saying he was bad, but in my senior year I got into my schools talent show and show off my high note skills that I couldn't do it in band and was worth it and was like eat your ceral smiley Lol.

However one day, she overheard one of her classmates being yelled by the music for no good reason, so my mom step in and defending her classmate.
