When I got mine. It overheats. Change the temp setting to high still overheats. Now running the v90 SD cards, and always flip out the screen. Never overheats. I don't know if the card have anything to do with it. I was running the v30 and v60 cards before this.. Don't know if this will help.

Thanks for sharing, Mike! For our A7IV that didn’t overheat we were even using a WiFi app (Monitor+) for hours without issue!

Your A7IV probably overheated, but the temperature sensor didn't get tripped. The heat threshold must be higher on your camera which is not a good thing.

Hi mate, did you find any solution? People recommend placing in Airplain mode and opening the flip-out screen so that it can dissipate heat. But not sure if there are more settings/actions that may help. Do you know more?

I belive there is a firmware update that helps with this according to a recent a7iv video I watched. Check both a7iv's to see if they have the same firmware.

I’m in same boat. Camera used to not overheat, but my last shoot it was overheating like crazy. The only thing that changed was I went from a 35mm GM to a 16-35 GM. I’m wondering if the extra power it takes to move the heavier glass during AF has an affect on temp??

I don't think that's very likely but the lens is shedding heat by being made of metal.

I'd try a different codec. All-I, is basically no compression and should be less heat. I think. That's what I use and I have no heat problems.

Maybe you got broken battery? The easiest way to check it is to swap battery with other A7IV to see if it still overheats. Might be also specific to the SDcard (more likely). Try recording externally and see if it is still happening. Hope it's not the camera itself.

I agree most of the settings add to the overheating of the camera but try using another sd card brand it might help reduce it. As a last resort, probably try returning it and ask for a new a7iv replacement. Test if it is still the same.

This sound like a batch variation issue… maybe you’re A7IV is a lemon. Did you notice any difference in body temperature when filming between the A7IV and the A7SIII? And is there a difference in heat development between the two A7IVs?

I’m hoping I didn’t get a dud. This is the first time it’s done this. I r recorded with it previously in long form and it never overheated. I’m not sure if it was settings or configuration that caused it. Once I made those adjustments, it ran for another 45 mins with no issues or warnings.

Were you plugged into USB power? Were you on a dummy battery? I can tell you that running the Sony battery grip VERY much affects the A7-IV heat issues in a positive way. Getting that battery out of that socket by using the grip or dummy power option helps an enormous amount.

I have researched that even A7IV and Sony A1 share the same processor, high megapixel sensor but recording times causes heating issues only in A7IV not in A1. Without any issues A7IV sometime record 30 min sometimes 40 min but don't know when it will die in extreme heat outside sunlight or desert. It is a software limit or software plus harware limit causing recoding to maximize within 30-40 min range just like A7iii record limit is fixed to 30 min. As per me sensor oversampling is not the issue. Sony mentioned heating limits in their A7IV manual but even we set the high limit inside A7IV menu, I don't know when it will die. It is a reliability issue. I think just like Canon R6, R5 Sony fixed for this model a limit. Few people are talking about this. I wish they provide a software update for heating issue or fix a reliable limit of 1 hour or 2 hour just like Nikon Z9 set it for 2 hours worry free 8K.
@xWood40002 жыл бұрын
I don't think they can do any updates for it, the difference is that the A7IV has a sensor with older technology than the A1 and A7SIII, that's why there's so much rolling shutter. It probably produces more heat. It's also a lot of heat to handle in a cheaper body, oversampling 7K to 4K. Any camera will have issues with that. The R5 and R6 has overheating issues too
@xWood40002 жыл бұрын
One firmware update that could actually help is offering a lower image quality that is line skipped, like what Canon offers on the R5.

@@one901 Both the A7iii and A7IV are hybrid cameras. The A7IV may have slightly better performance and capability, but at the end of the day, it's a hybrid. If videos are your job get a cheap Sony camera tailored to video like the A7siii and the FX3. With a hybrid camera, you want it to shut down during 30 minutes of recording.
