As much as I hate school, I would break down in tears if I saw my school abandoned, ruined and empty. All my memories. All the flashbacks. All the images of me and my friends. I now understand what people mean by “I miss school, I wish I was your age to go to school”

Back in 2007 my parents moved across the country and I had to pack up their old house that I grew up in. If that wasn't bad enough, my best friend's mom moved in afterward with her boyfriend, so the first time my buddy and I went up to visit, I literally couldn't speak for like two hours and just kind of wandered around in a trance until the overwhelming nostalgic feelings wore off.

Me too, although I'd have to wait an incredibly long time, because the school I went to from PrK3 to Grade 12 was brand new when I started and had always been getting new upgrades up until graduation. So it's still incredibly modern, and I can't see it being abandoned for several decades.

Mine 🙋‍♂️ too... Not exactly a school, but a university. Our classes were on the hilly part of the campus. During the duration of my studies, classes were gradually moved to newer buildings off the hills. Years later, the classrooms blocks in the hilly part was abandoned. Recently, those buildings are now demolished. Really sad to see that. All my memories, gone. Also, there's blocks of student dormitory which was already abandoned when I began studying there. Those blocks are haunted by a female ghost and djinns and are off limits to students. Now, these blocks are demolished too. University admin decided to return those demolished place back to nature (with some hiking trails for people exercising).

Asbestos is only dangerous if it is in spores (airborne), lead has to be ingested (probably in the pipes), and mercury is usually airborne. I would like to hope they cleaned out the mercury, but it’s doubtful.

The schools I went to are all still in use and they even finished expanding the second elementary school with a second floor after I left for middle school. To go back and find either elementary school I went to or my middle or high schools closed down and completely abandoned, I think that would upset me more than anything else it would make me feel.

There is an abandoned middle school about 10 minutes from where I live and the school closed for good in 2004 for unknown reasons. Me and my friends went exploring there in summer 2016 and for some reason the power and all the lights were still on. In the school, there were some backpacks, school supplies from students, old 90s computers, and various pictures just lying around. It was like a time capsule of the early 2000s and that will most likely always be frozen in that time forever. While it was cool and intriguing to explore, there was also this weird intense sadness that all of us felt while exploring there, and after we left the building me and my friends just started bawling our eyes out for literally no reason.

My high school isn't even this large- But funny, half of my school was built a 14 years later. In 1928. The half was built when the school before still remained. But the main school at the time was burned down. There was an accident and the whole main school was reduced to rubble. After the incident the rest of my school was built. Then in 1960 there was a gym added to it. There have been multiple deaths at my school, of course those are just rumors or legends if you will. I'm a senior this year and me and my class will be the last graduating from the building. A new school is getting built near and once it's built my school will be destroyed. It's weird. And honestly a bit sad knowing what's here now, won't be in the next year. My school is also a fallout shelter. I have fond memories of each of the schools I've been through, each for better or worse. Unfortunately, my old Elementary school was closed down (but luckily, not abandoned). I'd relish the opportunity to walk through and say hello to any of the teachers who've been there while I was growing up.
