This reminds me of when I was younger. A groupe of us used to pretend we were jedi's in training, in the woods working on our saber technics. Great video.
@IodoDwarvenRanger
@IodoDwarvenRanger Жыл бұрын
I use to do that too! but practicing this and realizing as an adult how often I am clipping myself with my own sword (plus knowing how much more dangerous than even a live bladed sword light-sabers theoretically are) gives me a whole new level of respect for any Jedi who made it through training without loosing at least one limb LOL

@@IodoDwarvenRanger Yeah that's so true. I imagine padawan's might have seen their fair share of time in the bacta trank. Even in my own fan fiction the main character lost an arm and half a leg to saber combat. I was actually just given an old practice sword, I might have to give these moves a try. I know I'm super rusty.

Iodo my dear, you have learned the first lesson on flourishing a weapon. CONFIDENCE! Flourishes rarely serve a purpose in sword battles except to intimidate an opponent. A flashy flourish with a sword can place your enemy on notice that you are someone to be reckoned with if you can execute it with panache. You are well on your way dwarven ranger...

Interesting point about where you 'look' while flourishing, musicians face the same problem. A guitarist on stage that looks at his/her fingers all the time 'looks' like they need more practice, where a guitarist that looks up and makes eye contact has more perceived presence and confidence. I wonder how many other aspects of life that applies to? Nice one! Keep up the good work.

it looks like you want to go fast. Teachers teach students that want to go fast to do it slowly, like in slow motion. Keep your shoulders down, most beginners raise one or both shoulders. Try to relax in the movement and keep the sword a bit away from you. Train every in the morning and the evening. Every move three times. Do it slow and with intent. You will get there. Some moves took me a long time to master. Have fun and thank you for this interesting video.

It's actually quite endearing to see your efforts and successes. I have no interest in this pursuit, as I like watching the how tos. But this is fun. My years of bo staffs, stick fighting, etc. are way behind me, but, if I may,....you seem, if not nervous, then a bit too worried. This manifests in stiffness and rigidity. While staying strong is essential, looseness and being relaxed are essential to fluidity. No joke here. Try having a couple drinks 15 minutes before practice. Probably one drink for you. Just enough to loosen you up, but not enough to lose your feet. Also, once you've gone through it enough to understand the move, close your eyes. You're concentrating too much on what you see and how you look than on how it feels. Close your eyes and feel the movement. Meanwhile, as demonstrated, you've got a future in hedge trimming if nothing else.

Great video I love what you do, bloopers especially. That's a pretty good point you make about looking at your sword. There's a similar phenomenon in the Cowboy Action Shooting/Reenactment community regarding drawing/holstering a pistol. P.s. The dwarves of Middle Earth was inspired by the dwarves of Germanic and norse mythology. I really recommend to read or listen to some of all the norse mythology sagas the one that is most prevelent when it comes to dwarves is the story of when loke cut the hair of sif, is the same story their got mjölnir and odin got draupnir which was the inspiration to the lord of the tings and the real tolkien rings of powers, aka not the amazon crap. ;)

@@IodoDwarvenRanger no worries, as a Tolkian fan, southern Swede, history nerd and part norse pagan. It is always nice to find references and inform and teach others about it without any biases or supremacist undertones. Becourse unfortually the norse culture has been adopted by racist supremacists for the about 200 years by now, first from the early 19th century romanticism, over to national romanticism, and on to nazism. But not all Viking enthusiasts are nationalist supremacists. And i allways tries to be a good inspiration to the intrests of norse paganism and culture, and put the emphasis on the multicultural inspirations and explorations of the norse from the bronzeage to the medieval ages.
