it's never too late. I always tell my dad I love his sketches and he should dabble in art. I don't think he believes in himself, but he does have immense appreciation for artists... he has interest and background knowledge... I wish he would someday create something that everyone will see. if you're reading this, hi, plz do this

That's so awesome that you're encouraging dad to follow his passion! Even if it's just for himself, taking that step is so important. Do you make art too?

I didn't start painting until I was 22. Luckily I think you can start painting or doing art at any age, but I am a bit envious of those who have had art in their life (or the opportunity to have art in their life) from a very young age. Great advice Happy!

Michael O'Keefe Paintings I am so glad I read your comment. When I was young I used to draw every day but after a while I stopped. Currently Im 23 years and I have this desire to draw and create but I dont have talent like I want. And I have been thinking to give up because I feel like I am too late to learn. But your comment gave me hope.

amaya403017 Go for it! I'm no expert with drawing (Though you're already on the right channel to get help on that), but I'm sure the key to any kind of art is to just do it! Even if you're not totally happy with your first creations, just keep practicing and the talent will come! :)

i am the exact same, 22 and now get anxiety whenever I draw because of all the pressures I put on myself. I'm making it my mission to start drawing silly things again, basically allow myself to fail. I recommend watching How to Find Artistic Inspiration! by sketchynatalia and also 'Overcoming Artist's Block · Productivity and Inspiration Tips and Prompts' by minnie small. Another tip is to draw as soon as you wake up so you are less guarded. Hope this helps

I'm in middle school and love lad art even when all I could do was scribble. I always thought it was a natural talent so I never practiced. Then it hit me PRACTICE! Now I made up for all the last years I have not practiced and I think I'm at my appropriate age level and will get much better this year!

My sister always makes me think of how bad I am because she always says to each and every drawing, even if I'm proud of it that it's ugly. But she said those were just tips and I couldn't take criticism.... but you really help me.... I just found you today and I already love you!!:) really made my day(it's night)

I have been doing art since kindergarten just as a child usually would but I got into it in year 5 then stopped and in year 7 I've started again. I'm in year 9 at the moment and I'm being self taught since for my electives I cannot do art because there are not enough people in the class. This is really helpful because without your advice and other artists I probably wouldn't be where I am today and I wouldn't even be making art so THANKYOU SO MUCH

This video is very true to me. I started my art journey in middle school, but I didnt draw that often as I liked or practice seriously then. Now that im in college, im trying to make up for lost time and practice. I wish i would have taken it seriously when i was a kid like my peers, but to me it is better starting now than never starting at all.

I know this video is from January, but I just HAD to comment on the fact that if you stop it is SO HARD to start up again.. it's like torture when you have all of these ideas and inspiration but when you finally go to create, you see your skills are just not what you feel they should be and everything you do is wrong or ugly and it'll be so dang hard yo complete anything. so please don't take any breaks, don't stop... always work on your craft...

Speaking as a fellow artist, I think you have accomplished your goals for this painting. It is amazing!! I got a serenely eerie feeling from it. A mystery, a natural force. Now, I want to paint something like that! I too grew up drawing. My mom got me into drawing when I first could hold a pencil to keep me occupied. I was very very energetic when I was little.

Thank you for the advice! I've always enjoyed drawing, but at the same time I didnt enjoy it because I felt I wasnt good enough. And everyone just said "oh ur so good", but I didnt really think that myself. Maybe because I knew I could've used a lot more effort. I went to drawing school, learned alot about every technique there is to know about in the artworld. And now, I see all these amazing paintings and those who can draw anything just by mind! So I've decided to try at least. SO thank you for this video and some of these comments that helps for the motivation and to know that one has to work for it to accomplish it! That is something I never understood.

what's funny is that about a month before this, I drew a close up eye and its the polar opposite of done lol. Mine was done with water based markers and only had warm colors with an exception for green. But I'm only 12, so it looks realistic but not quite as fine tuned as yours. This is a great work of art! You have wonderful parents. My dad told me art isn't a real job so I basically stopped doing it toward the end of college. Now I'm 26 trying to get back into art and I feel so stagnant and my art level is like it was 12 years ago. Feeling really discouraged.
@giaonguyen3799

I started drawing since 3 I think, and I'm now 14. My parents also recognize my art passion, they just let me do art all I want, they didn't encourage, but didn't separate me from art neither. If some event happen in my life, that desire to stop me from doing art, I'll pass it, and continue to draw. No one in my life can stop me. However, I don't even understand myself, when younger, I always just draw draw and draw, having the biggest passion ever, but I never started practice seriously (I started 1 year or so ago) I remember my art teacher in Vietnam told my friend about me that I was really "talented" (like I have the potential or smth) but why didn't I practice seriously so that I can get into my school's art competition group? I don't know, thinking back, I thought I wasn't ready? If anyone was like me, just start okay, just start, the longer you start seriously into art, the better, good luck to you all ٩( 'ω' )و

I agree with you. I wanted to practice realism at 10 years old. I told myself that I could draw cartoons like most kids my age but I will never actually truly understand the techniques like shading or anatomy until I'm older. Kids always say that realism is boring and I need my own style. But I don't think that's true. Realism can be beautiful but I do need my own style. I think I've come to a point where I know realism well enough to draw in my own style. But I want it to be semi-realistic. And now I see I understand art more than the other art kids in my grade. I'm not trying to brag or say that I'm naturally born gifted but I worked really hard to get here and the other kids didn't really do anything. They never self criticize and when I point out little flaws to help them to give them constructive criticism they get mad at me. I'm not saying my art is perfect I know I have a lot of flaws and people can point them out but I won't get mad. Kids my age are just overly defensive. That's why when someone shows off a drawing to other kids I normally stay silent so no one gets mad.

I have been watching your videos for like 5 hours today, you have so many interesting videos and they are all so helpful and relatable I just can't stop! Another absolutely beautiful painting, really really powerful and smartly chosen colors, I can't believe how good you are at your style of painting :) And luna is also a Slovene word for moon (my native language) :D

Beautiful painting. Thank u for sharing. Not everyone has the life situation where they have the luxury of encouragement in art during the younger years. People can be good at art even after their thirties, if they want to. The amazing pencil artist Emmy Kalia started drawing after her thirties. Check out her videos on KZbin. She says she never even doodled before that. And her art is absolutely amazing! I am sorry to say that the subtext of this advice is discouraging to those who didn't have the luxury of art in their younger years. Sad that this comes from an amazing and inspiring artist like Happy. And once again, the eye painting is absolutely gorgeous. Learning so much from you girl, thank u so much for sharing your art. Have a good day!

Almost same story but different "final". I've always been attracted to art, I remember when I was a little child my father brought home tons of white paper from work, and my mother bought me pencils, colors etc. I've spent most of the days drawing and watching illustrated books. Then I started elementary school and people found out I was good in math and science too. After that all my life has been pushed to follow the scientific studies for a future career, I started spending less and less time drawing till my teen ages when I stopped drawing in front of people and didn't want them to look at my works. 5 years ago I started university (Molecular Biology) and I completely stopped drawing (one of the worst decision I've ever made so far in my life). This christmas I finally was able to purchase a graphic tablet at the age of 23, despite the whishes of my parents. Re-starting drawing after 5 years it's like drawing when I was 10 years old, as you said, skills deteriorate if not used. Btw I'm happy to hear that your parents encouraged you :) you're a very talented Artist in my opinion :)
