It's very courageous to be transparent about things you've lived by for years that you have now found are not the most optimal. I appreciate you being honest with us and including us on your journey.

Thank you for being REAL! So many live that “perfect” life and you just say it how it is-appreciated. Best to you in this journey. Been there myself - know all too well how misleading “doing it for health, longevity, the sport” can be in our own mind. Love and hugs❤

Your former over-exercising and intermittent fasting and eating very low fat did seem a little bit excessive so I'm glad you are revising them and putting health first as perfectionists like you (and me!) can push ourselves a little too hard and end up ill.

Hi Karli! I am currently going through H.A. recovery myself and eat the same way you do. I am gaining weight but it is really hard to accept. Im trying to stay motivated to keep on going. The best way for me to do that is by watching videos of beautiful women like yourself who going through it as well, and seeing that you can still be beautiful at a larger size. However, you are the only one ive found that is eating the same way that i do (wfpb low fat). ive watched your videos on your H.A. healing journey over and over again! I would so desperately appreciate more of your content on your journey!!! Thank you for the honest information that you have already put out and for being so vulnerable!!! I cant tell you how much it means and has helped me!

Listening to your body is the best thing you can do right now. Make it your mission and you’ll be back to your best self in no time ❤️‍🩹😊

Thank you for being so honest. I know it must be hard for you especially since you’re a health and weight loss coach, but i believe the good ones are the ones who learn from their mistakes and can learn from them. It’s so refreshing to see that you’re making these changes and empowering other/clients to do the same. I have been suffering the same thing for years, but everywhere I turn it was “eat less, exercise more, fast, cold baths, etc”. And you’re right, the research and experiments have been mostly on men! Thank you. I would love some more videos on your journey through this. It would help me greatly. Hats off to you Karli for putting yourself out there!

This video was really interesting. I had already stopped watching a few KZbinrs who seemed to be very extreme in their version of WFPB and looked worryingly thin. It occurred to me that although their advice was generally healthy, they were taking it to an excess, totally cutting out any whole food fats such as avocados, nuts and seeds or eating in such a calorie deficit that they looked ill. I think it can be dangerous to have people striving to eat and live in such a regimented way. I was starting to feel like I was failing because I couldn’t go to a restaurant and take a potato with me instead of eating with my family off the menu or because I like to eat bread occasionally which is crazy. It’s really brave of you to open up in this way and I hope it makes people stop and evaluate the advice they are following. I would love to see how you are adapting your eating and daily routine to be more kind to your body. I hope you feel better soon x

That is exactly what I was hoping to convey in this video! I'm so glad you found it refreshing. It seems many of us have fallen prey to this "optimal health" ideal. The reality is that we truly don't need to micromanage our bodies in this way and it may, in fact, lead to the opposite of what we had intended. Thanks for your comment!

I had to increase my fat in my diet from wild caught seafood, grassfed bison or beef. I was eating 3,000 calories mostly whole food plant and breastfeeding two babies. My weight kept getting lower 105 to 97. Lost my period. Avocados and nuts didnt help. My blood pressure was so low I was passing out. Turned out all I nedded was more salt! Now I stick with this and my cycle is regular again.

Thanks for sharing this! I feel like there are so many caveats and nuances for all the "health" recommendations out there. We really do need to do our own research and err on the side of caution.

Thanks for sharing Karli! Sounds like you weren't feeling very well following all those rules. So glad to hear you are feeling better! It is hard to eat when you're not hungry or are you hungry for you meals? Have you been told you have to increase protein? Are you gong to share the changes you've had to made in what you eat? I imagine that big bag of raw veg is out. Did you say you are being advised not to include walking in your day? What would be the reason?
@luluandmeow
@luluandmeow 10 ай бұрын
I was surprised to hear about the walking as surely walking is good for everyone, it doesn't have to be strenuous or a hike, just walking around your local park surely lifts the spirits too, it's important not to go from one extreme to the other as it's only too easy to pile on the weight, this is not the same as regaining health. There are so many overweight people that experts (doctors, nutritionists) can sometimes push a slim person to put on weight, sometimes I think they want to cover themselves in case they are seen as encouraging anorexia or other eating disorder.

At 14, I had my first period. At 18, I lost it. At 19, the doctors had me start hormone therapy. I'm 35 years old and now suffer from osteoporosis. I still haven't had my period come naturally. And I recently had to stop the HT because of a blood clot scare. I was diagnosed with a protein S deficiency. I wish the doctors would've told me that HA could be reversed, maybe with a different diet. I will try to increase my caloric intake in the hopes that I can feel any changes in my body. It's been many years, so I don't expect anything to happen. Im hopeful.

It’s never too late! Be sure to increase your calories to at least 2500 per day. You will benefit from reading “No Period?Now What”. I am so sorry you have struggled with this for so long. Keep me posted on your journey. The book I mentioned above has a great HA support group too

Love your honesty in sharing. Thank you I found out, as many do that super low fat just isn't great for females in reproductive years. Adding back some flax, chia, walnuts and avocado has been so wonderful. Also I think fasting serves well those with severe chronic diseases who are overweight, everyone else it seems to be a disservice too. I feared and loved my recovery all at once! It was amazing to have pizza bases when I'd previously excluded all flour! And I enjoyed dried oat cookies and such too, and medjool dates! Oh my!!!!😋😋😋 The great part is we can still eat wfpbno and recover! I couldn't let go of the evidence that does show it's better nutritionally, so I kept eating that just adding in richer items. The exercise is so hard to stop at the start, then in a few months you'll realise how chronically exhausted you've been and you won't want to leave the couch for a year after that😂😂😂 Keep going! It's worth it purely not to be a "raging bear" to our family, and to feel just a *tiny* bit warmer (still constantly freezing though as I am a c0ld person and always have been!)😚😚😚

Sandy, I so appreciate these words of encouragement and insight from someone who has been through this and come out the other side. Literally everything you wrote rings true for me and my journey so far. I’m still recovering with WFPB but I’m so sick of eating lol. I feel like that’s all I do- either cooking the food or eating the food. Relaxing has been nice. I miss having the energy to put out regular content but I hope you guys will not hold it against me 🫣😊

I'm a young female with hypothalmic amenorrhea and i can't seem to acknowledge the severity of it like everyone says.. because i don't plan to have any kids, what are some other actual risks that could happen other than infertility?
@NaturallyKarli

Oh my- the list never ends! Chronic constipation, bloating, osteoporosis, heart & brain atrophy, joint pain, insomnia, urinary frequency/urgency/incontinence, anxiety, etc., etc. Watch this for for the full picture: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqWleoWgf8tjeMU And good luck with your recovery when you choose to go down that route.

Have you looked into seed cycling to regain your period? Not sure I believe in it totally, but I had good results. It might just be a fun thing to research. Hugs to you.
@NaturallyKarli
@NaturallyKarli 10 ай бұрын
Thanks, Jennifer. I have, actually. But there really isn't any evidence to support seed-cycling at this time. But I am incorporating regular flax as there is a ton of supporting evidence for hormonal balancing with this seed. Glad you had good results!

I wish you the best however, don’t assume all physicians are always right. Many docs just repeat what they learned in training but half of what we learned in our training is false. Read lots of scientific research and think long and hard before blindly following medical advice.

Well put. Thanks for sharing your experience with this issue. It’s unfortunate that even the peer-reviewed literature can be misleading. We should all become better critical thinkers in our modern atmosphere.
