I've had alopecia ever since i was 2 years old and now at thirteen i am completely bald. For those who have alopecia just always remember you are bald and beautiful! No matter what happens you always need to stay strong and positive. i hope that everyone who has alopecia will think beautiful things of themselves no matter how they look, because real beauty is in your heart.❤️

Now I’m in 10th grade and yes I lost lots of hair and I was really thinning out and lost a lot of weight and clumps of hair here and there and I decided to used hair extensions and sometimes even tried dyeing my hair so nobody won’t notice the white hair that started growing.. I wanted to feel normal like everyone else but it was really hard 😣

Thanks for making this video. I have alopecia as well. It started at age 5 ( I am currently 50) as alopecia areata, then progressed into alopecia totalis, and finally when I was 20 I lived through a terrible terrible tragedy and it advanced to alopecia universalis and never changed. Even though I have my brows and eyeliner tattooed and have gotten quite good at styling my hairpieces (I hate the "W" word), it is still a very embarrassing and degrading condition to have in my opinion that puts limitations on things that I feel confident and comfortable doing. I wish daily that my hair would grow back. Thanks again for your video and I will give your suggestions a try!

My story is also identical, started my alopecia journey in July but as I found the first one, I found the second one on top and then two weeks later found another two spots. I’ve been doing the steroid shots for 3 months now and have noticed a small amount of growth but I’ve paired it with biotin, prenatal vitamins, b12, iron but I’ve noticed my head getting severely itchy when the hair starts to grow. Wow what a run on sentence, just know you’re not alone! Xo

I think it is good that you have shared your story, and I think that it is amazing that you have had regrowth. However, there is no evidence to state that anything can be seen as a cure for alopecia areata. as it is autoimmune, and is unpredictable then there is nothing to state whether it will come or go. I developed it at 33 years old. It is good that you are raising awareness x

I lost all of my hair and my eyebrows are thinning and eye lashes are sort of coming off. It’s been 3 months and nothing. There’s no day where I don’t think about this and I hate my self and I just don’t care nor wanna be here. I feel like I lost my self because I cared so much about my hair and it was 100% of my confidence. I cry my self to sleep everyday and get bullied by own friends and sometime even family. None of them know how much this has hurt me and I wish they could feel it. I would never wish this upon any one it truly hurts

I also have alopecia and I’ve gotten in back when I was in 7th grade. I’ve gotten alopecia after my little brother sadly passed away when I was in 4th grade.. Now I’m in 10th grade and yes I lost lots of hair and I was really thinning out and lost a lot of weight and clumps of hair here and there. I decided to used hair extensions and sometimes even tried dyeing my hair so nobody won’t notice the white hair that started growing.. I wanted to feel normal like everyone else but it was really hard 😣

Fellow AA "person" here (not a "sufferer" because there are worse ailments to have!)...there have been enormous strides also made in the systemic treatment of AA/AT/AU, but different treatments work for different people, and that is what makes this condition so frustrating for many of us. But apart from this, always remember that AA is the result of the body's inflammatory response on its own hair follicles, so supplementing your topical or systemic treatments with anti-inflammatory foods and supplements is very important also! For supplements you can also consider taking curcumin, resveratrol, omega-3, zinc, and Korean red ginseng, all of which have strong anti-inflammatory properties. Since there is rarely a singular effective treatment for AA, it is important to consider using a wide range of treatments in combination with each other.

sanjuna narala my hair has grown since I’ve made this comment and I no longer have balding. I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens again but here is what I’ve done: 1.) I took supplements everyday which included - a keratin & biotin - a b12 - a fish oil - D3 2.) I did not get highlights done or dye my hair in this time frame. I avoided chemical treatments 3.) I washed my scalp well 2-3 times a week bc the dandruff your scalp naturally builds can make the hair fall off. 4.) Avoided straightening or curling my hair (quarantining made this easy) 5.) Waited. It’s literally a waiting game. If you’re really desperate you can purchase rogaine for women but if it’s just a bald spot or two I would save the money and wait. It’s slow growth no matter the route you take and it took 3 months for me to notice a significant difference and 5 months for the new hair to blend in and fully cover the area. If you want to hide the spot when going out purchase a matte eyeshadow that is the color of your hair and place it on the area. It will make your hair look fuller and camouflage the patches. My bald spot was in the very front of my scalp, it was awful but finally grew back

Thank you sooo much for sharing your story. I'm a 25 year old gay guy. The first time I actually touched my spot, it terrified me and I'm still a bit insecure about it tbh. Mine is right above my ear and maybe the size of a nickel or a little bigger. I get my hair faded so it kinda blends in a bit and I've been hesitant about going to the dermatologist or anywhere else really. Not exactly sure why I'm hesitant but it just makes me feel a bit defeated and adds on to the stress I've already been feeling. It really does take a stab at your confidence so finding your video helped me A LOT! I had the idea stuck in my head that rogaine wouldn't work so I haven't tried it yet. After watching you I think I'll try it and even go to the dermatologist.

I just did some research on minoxidil, which is the active ingredient in most hair regrowth products and discovered it is what's called as vasodilator. What that means is, it opens up your blood vessels, which is probably what encourages your scalp to regrow hair. However, it's also given in oral form to reduce blood pressure. Of course, anything you apply to your body gets absorbed into your bloodstream, and I happen to be taking three heart medications, two of which (a statin and a blood thinner) it turns out would interact with minoxidil -- which potentially could lower my blood pressure to a dangerously low level. So, this is important to keep in mind if you're considering using a hair regrowth product. I am super bummed that I cannot try women's Rogaine for this reason. In fact, I suspect that the heart medications are actually contributing to my hair thinning, as well as my medication for an underactive thyroid. Many medications have this effect so it's a good idea to look up your precriptions to see if hair loss is one of their side effects. I AM going to try taking a Biotin supplement with a coconut oil base, and again after doing research found out it needs to be combined with zinc -- AND drinking lots and lots of water. I also am going to try using coconut oil as a scalp treatment. We each have our own story as to why we have hair loss, so it's good to do some homework and even talk with your doctor about these things. I'm about to switch over to a mostly plant-based diet in order to lower my blood sugar levels because, on top of everything else, I have Type II diabetes and I really, really do not want to take yet another medication. I did talk to my doctor about this, who'd rather give me metformin, but I'm determined to try to improve things a more natural way. Who knows, maybe if I improve my diet (which is pretty much canned and boxed food at this time), it might also help my hair. I should also add that I have a great hat collection and am known for them, but I decided to buy some amazingly cute wigs this past year with some of that pandemic money, and I have gotten nothing but compliments, even from strangers who don't realize I'm wearing a wig. A word of advice, though, if you buy wigs online. Some companies, like HSN (Home Shopping Network) say that there MAY be a restocking fee of as much as 60 percent if you return a wig. Well, they DID reduce my refund by 60 percent on two wigs I returned in perfect condition. One wig was $200, so I took a $120 hit! The other wig was $160 and I lost $96. So, live and learn (ouch!) and read the return policy carefully. I'll never buy another wig from HSN, even though they're good quality. You don't know how you'll look in a wig unless you try it on, for goodness sake.

Thank you :) I also developed alopecia areata for the first time this March (2019)... I'm in my late twenties so I guess I got it a bit later too.. I got about three now. One is quite a large patch about 4cm in radius.. one is medium sized, and one is small. The small one filled up by itself quickly. The medium sized one slowly did so. While the biggest one barely grew at all even though it's my 'oldest' one. It's still completely bare... So I have a question: I noticed that you also had several different sizes. Your biggest patch (on the back of your head) how long did that one grow? (Did you take any shots?) And how about the smaller ones? Thanks! PS: I felt so depressed too in the beginning, but when my boyfriend just stayed very calm and was very caring.. it really changed things for me too.

I take spironalactone and minoxidil (orally) from my dermatologist (my insurance covers these) and I moisturize my scalp in the shower with a very good conditioner and leave it in my hair for a couple mins (hello hydration herbal essences) and use a shampoo that doesn't dry my scalp out (suave professional Almond and shea butter) because I learned that having a dry scalp makes hair more likely to fall out. I have a recurring autoimmune disease that is trying to ruin my life and cause a lot of pain. It also causes hair loss because of the stress of flares last for months at a time and the high prednisone use. I would trade autoimmune ulcers for painless autoimmune hair loss because I’ve been told the shaved/bald head is actually very mysterious and intriguing on a woman. And besides, if celebrities can do it, so should everyone else be able to “pull it off”.
