My AMAZING Trip To The ISLAY FESTIVAL

I'm reviewing a bunch of Feis Isle releases and thought it would be nice for you all to see a short film about my trip there. I went with a bunch of my close whisky friends and we had an absolutely amazing time.

What a fantastic visit to Islay! Those memories of festival week six years ago (remember the good times before the big "c" arrived) are just amazing. And isn't it wonderful to see whisky enthusiasts enjoying each other's company, taking part in real tastings and dancing till the cows come home! Way to go. Cheers.

A dream of mine, Tabs, is to go once and do the Feis Ile on Islay. Did it take a lot of planning or could you just wander around? Did you have to book distillery tours in advance?

Hey Richard. You can kinda do both, I guess. There are enough fun tastings going around even if you don't book but you need to go to the distillery open days preferably. For the more intense/premium/sought after tastings it's always better to book in advance. Since we always go with around 5 or 6 guys it's better to have your itinerary planned well in advance. We also hire a dedicated taxi service for us so it's good to share our schedule with them. It's fun either way. Make sure you go with friends. And if you need help organizing a few things reach out to me. I might be able to help. I am, after all, an honorary Illeach. Title bestowed upon me by Mickey Heads of Ardbeg. Ta.

Great video. we went to Islay in 2019 n it was great fun. But we went in june after feis ile as we were scared about the shortage of suitable accommodation.We were 2 couples from India. How much more expensive/difficult do you think it s to go during feis ile (for a couple) as compared to june??

Prices are slightly higher thats for sure. And for the tastings you have to plan ahead. However, the festive environment and the fun shennanigans that happen during the Feis are just something else, in my opinion. The town is buzzing, lots of interesting people to meet and the exclusive tastings that happen only during the Feis. Key is planning ahead, that's all.

Depends on a lot of things. If you keep aside the cost of buying whiskies, tastings and travel to the island I would budget for around £1000 to live comfortably for a week inclusive of three square meals a day. Of course the best thing is to share among friends.

Not at all. We carried what are knows driver's drams - to drink when we got home in the evening.

@@MaltActivist so how do these driver's drams work? You also mentioned something about a dedicated taxi service in another comment, do you mind explaining that one a bit further? Was planning on going to the festival next year with some friends for the first time and any advice would help a lot

@@Tw4nanas Hey! So you get these small sample bottles (30ml) in which you can pour your dram and then enjoy it once you're back home. In case you're driving or simply dont feel like drinking them just then. You can get a dedicated taxi service if you like (Bruichladdich Taxis is very good - but can turn out to be quite expensive). We paid almost £1500 (split between the 6 of us) for a week long trip. If you want to go to the festival next year I suggest you start booking now because everything gets filled up way ahead in advance. The easier thing to do is go outside of the festival. You get better rates and the distilleries aren't too busy!
