PETG is UV resistant where PLA is Not . I bet many folks regret PLA after a year of outside exposure and wish they would have known. Its also more flexible than PLA . I haven't played with most of the new PLA+ HD's etc, But I know they are trying to make PLA with more a tad of flex but I have long used PETG as I started making RC Air frame stuff. Hope that helps somebody.

I just scored 5kg of Siraya tech ABS-GF at $25/kg. normally $40 I have an open bed slinger and was avoiding the higher temp/high strength stuff due to horrible experiences with nylon and abs in the past. I bought a spool last summer, but only got to printing it the last week. this stuff is about as easy to print as PLA. OMG it's strong. its now my go to for printing custom parts for my job. I reengineered them to accommodate the lower weight needed for a given strength, it's now cheaper to run the pricey stuff, than, say, PETG

@@OuterRimArmorer One warning, it isn't nice to .4mm nozzles and is abrasive as hell, I run diamondbacks myself. It is crazy strong though

Elegoo's PLA Pro is my favorite cheap PLA. It's not really cheap, I just call it that because the only PLA I like better is Polymaker's PLA Pro lol. Thanks for putting it in your list, I needed to stock up

Thanks for sharing! Do you have to run the PLA Pro hot? My printers like it around 235-255 for temp. It seems a bit high for PLA but prints beautifully.

Can someone please tell me where I can get pla filament in flesh skin typical white person color. Elegoo suggested beige, but that is way too pale and towards yellowish. So far I bought two different rolls and they lack that slight pink, tan, olive, combination that makes skin tone. Please help. Thanks

I haven’t printed with a flesh colored filament but I would be curious to hear what you find that works. I’ve been thinking about printing some battle droids in the beige but I want to find the right color first. You could use acrylic paints to dry brush additional colors over the beige to make it look more flesh color? 🤔 It’s what I did with life size Yoda. I used an army green filament and brushed on additional colors to make him look more realistic.

Two walls two top to bottom 5% infil, unless I needed to be strong and survive an impact then I'll do 3 all around and 10% or 15% infill, it's pointless to pump extra filament into something that doesn't need it or won't need it especially if you're gonna paint it and put a protective coating on it anyways, if you're doing heavy sanding with electric Sanders yeah 3 walls or more, but the quality that these printers put out nowadays sanding is pointless unless you're trying to hide the fact that it's 3D printed, which I don't understand why people do that in the first place.........
@OuterRimArmorer

For me the minimum I’ll print PLA armor or helmets at is 3 walls, 5 top, 4 bottom, 15% infill, and a 1.6 layer height. These are my minimums. I will not go below these just from my person experience and depending on where the order is headed I will bump up those numbers. Higher humidity and temperature areas require more or you risk the print warping. This is just what I’ve found that works for me.
@NoMercyFtw
@NoMercyFtw Ай бұрын
@OuterRimArmorer if you're shipping it to a place where it's very hot extra walls or top layers aren't going to help it from deforming, especially if it's just any formulation of PLA, and if you're sanding and painting anyways always just go with petg

@ I’ve been printing PETG lately. Is it just me or is PETG more brittle? If I accidentally drop a PLA printed helmet onto the garage floor it bounces with no damage but a PETG helmet shatters. Is it my PETG setting or is it really only better for heat resistance? It doesn’t appear to break along a layer line so it leaves me to wonder if it’s just not as impact resistant? Just something I’ve been wondering lately. It seems PETG is gaining popularity. 🤷‍♂️

Is Qidi better than Bambu Labs?
@OuterRimArmorer
@OuterRimArmorer Ай бұрын
I don’t have a BambuLab printer but I first bought the Qidi XMax3 because two friends of mine who have both brands of printers said that Qidi printers are the closest to BambuLab quality in a big print volume printer than they had seen so I took a chance and I bought two of them. Then a third when those two turned out to be great printers(which has been rare for me). I also like their Q1 Pro. I have two of them. I’m really hoping they come out with an XMax4 soon. They’ve dropped the price enough on the 3 that it seems like that might be the next release. 🤔🤷‍♂️ If I had the money I’d buy another XMax3 right now.

What difference does a core x/y printer in practice do compared to a bed slinger
@OuterRimArmorer
@OuterRimArmorer Ай бұрын
I would estimate about 50% less failed prints and the print quality it much better. I really like the fixed bed setup on the Sovol SV08’s. I’ve been able to print some wild positioned stuff without failures because the bed doesn’t move. Most CoreXY printers the bed moves up and down rather than front to back. Don’t get me wrong, both version work well. Better than my bedslingers for print quality. It’s hard for me to send a customer something that’s been printed on my Bedslingers when it’s sitting right next to a beautiful print from one of the CoreXY printers. Really makes them look like poo when they’re side by side. The Elegoo’s use to print amazing so I think it’s me and not having them dialed in right or somethings wore out. 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Much Faster Speed of the printhead. Stability is much better especially on taller prints because your not slinging the whole tall print around. Instead your having a lightweight toolhead do all the moving instead of a heavy slower large bedplate.

I had a couple rolls that were out of the package stirring on printers in the garage for a couple days and they started to look like they were developing moisture. The prints were getting worse and worse. I swiped them out to PETG Pro and they printed fine. If kind of seemed fairly quickly to get moisture but it’s also that season up here in the PNW. It’s not as bad on the printers in the house. Still I might stick with the “PRO” version’s from Elegoo.
