A MAN born with ‘boomerang arms’ says he wouldn’t get surgery to change them as his condition makes him who he is. 26-year-old Ryan from Haltom City, Texas was born with arthrogryposis - a condition which halts the development of the joints in the arms and legs, leaving them ‘fused’. In Ryan’s case, it has caused limited mobility in his elbows, fingers and legs. Despite his condition, Ryan lives alone and is capable of doing most things by himself. Ryan began making videos on TikTok, and despite most comments being positive - he has received some negativity. He said: “There are people that say some rude things. ‘You have boomerang arms' or 'You look like someone that died and came back'. I don’t let anything get me down, I don’t make any excuses. A question that I get asked a lot is ‘If you could have surgery to fix it, would you?’ And I’m like ‘No, I don’t think so, because it makes me who I am’."

My brother has arthrogryposis. Growing up we never treated him any different. He scooted instead of crawling when he was a toddler and we use to have scoot races. He had to have a lot of surgeries to help straighten his legs so he has had to wear braces on his legs all his life. He has arms like yours, works, drives a car and is married. He is 56 years old now but when he was younger he played the drums in a band he was in with 3 other friends. Keep doing your thing and being yourself, don’t let anyone stop you!

I'm generally grateful to my parents for raising me and all but the fact i have 2 working arms ,legs brain and body is the single most motivating thing for me every day. I love it when people turn a disability/disadvantage into something truly inspiring. And also when you make light of it and put yourself out there on KZbin videos. I think it takes a very special person to acknowledge their own differences and be able to see it from other points of view, including humorous. There's no shame in being born different. No one is perfect, not even the most gorgeous Hollywood stars. Everyone has faults and imperfections, and everyone has some personal hang-ups about something. If it's not physical, it's psychological/emotional. So many people in the world are physically 'normal,' but psychologically unwell like with depression, bipolar, mental illness, drug addiction etc. You are far better off than 2+ Billion people on this planet.
