I have one of those Stern Defense 9mm Glock Mag, AR15 magwell adaptors, I always thought it would be cool if there was a way you could make a 3D printer print tightly around it to eliminate the misalighnment issues, have a bolt hold open, omit the normal mag release, the lower would probably be pretty strong with that nice metal piece in the center, it might be a bit larger than necessary but it would certanly be a solid piece with all your strength upgrades in PLA+ or CF. I suppose this invention makes the Stern a bit redundant since you can afford to buy a lot of stuff instead of paying $229 for an adaptor. Almost enough to just get a 3D printer or buy a G19 parts kit and have a sidearm or get a basic upper.

What if you took a strong apoxy like JB Weld and smeared it into that Z banding to make a smooth surface and it cured, would that create a strong hard surface that would hold up and remain withing specs? Just sort of a off the wall idea, it would be inside where its not visible. Theae are the sorts of things I often find myself doing when I work on older vehicles and I am "doing the wrong thing the right way" like repairing a gouged sealing surface on an intake manifold for a carb/throttle body, the surface for a thermostat housing, a gouged timing cover, blocking off some sort of emissions eguipment, like JBing a bolt into the EGR output on exhaust manifolds, plugging a vaccum port, blocking ports the a smog pump would feed after I delete it.

Hey I got a wild idea I’d like to see you or PSR try! I doubt you gonna read this, but I want to see if we can use nothing but a drill, sand paper, and a file in conjunction with a 3D printer to make a Glock 17 slide. So maybe get those file resistive rods other jigs use, and get a block of steel to try and mill the B to a G. You could also use cheap drill resistant inserts in the jig for make it accurate. It’d be a game changer making 3D printers no longer limited to plastic as they can be proven to make the tools needed to make metal parts!
