hose clamp is genius overall, using basically off the shelf hardware with custom printed components is one of the fastest routes to workable parts with mininmal machining. Im doing similar in several of my own designs. the integrated pistol grip is a big selling point on the KP-15 polymer lower, and it was made an integral piece for exactly the same reason you did. well done!

For preventing dirt in your muzzle, you can just wrap it in a thin layer of electrical tape and it will blow all of it off before the bullet exits the barrel. A bit simpler and maybe more convenient than printing specific caps. As always keep up the good work.
@hornmonk3zit
@hornmonk3zit 9 ай бұрын
Or you could just not care because there's no way you can realistically plug up an AR15 barrel enough to cause a catastrophic bore obstruction. If there was a serious issue of guns blowing up in the dirt we'd lose a quarter of our military's recruits in basic training, that's a thing that happens to thin barreled hunting shotguns not tiny .22 caliber cold hammer forged barrels with a .750" OD that are proofed for 70,000+ psi. If you don't believe me you can go watch Military Arms Channel lawn dart an AR into the mud over and over again with no issues.

I was able to generate some really good G code in cura after a lot of programming 😁 48hours of printing later I now have a really nice new christmas present that just finished. This design is incredible and you can’t fully appreciate how good it is until you hold one in your hand. The integrated grip was def a move in the right direction for ergonomics. Thank you again for sharing your work, ill be buying some parts from your store or making a donation to help support your work.

Is cura the only slicer you're familiar with, or what is it that makes you like cura? It seems like the vast majority are on to the litany of slic3r forks now, since cura 5.3 dropped anyway.
@shockburn
@shockburn 8 ай бұрын
Ive been using cura since v2.7 so I know the software very well. It has always worked good for me and have been able to fine tune a lot of the prints to get them really optimized. Im sure the other slicers are good to, I just have to learn them. I know Hoffman uses prusa slicer so that would be the next software I will learn. For now cura works great for me so I don’t fix what isn’t broken.
@travistucker7317
@travistucker7317 8 ай бұрын
@shockburn i hear you. Some end up being better for certain parts and such. PS has a feature for running interior bridges from infill to infill to support ceilings inside parts, that's a nice feature to get good upper floors without lots of infill. SS has a fan kickstart time, which is nice. I saw something in BS the other day, but I've barely used it at all. I really should go give Cura another look. I started with it, but haven't even opened it in quite some time now.

Absolutely phenomenal work, brother. I ran two of your lowers at GMM3 and might have to give these a shakedown for GMM4. Love the improvements, even if I can't use my PSR grip anymore. Regarding the BAD lever, I love them as they eliminate the need to do the dance of three hands to clear a jam or double feed. I'll let you know on this one, but they'd fit on your old lowers if you straightened them out on a table vise first.

Integrated grips makes sense. Modularity in general is a downside of mass manufacturing. Fully custom integration is the strength of printing and gets rid of downsides that come with modularity.

Correct! With 3D printing, modularity is not needed. If anything, you would have several designs with deferent grips one could choose from prior to printing.

I like the shape you chose for the pistol grip, it looks like a BCM Mod-3. My problem with most integrated pistol grips on ar-15s is that without fail they always use a shoddy design that hasn't been thought out and often is just an A2. The fact that you spent more than 5 minutes thinking about it makes you better than the big brands and the "professionals".

Incredible designs...only two suggestions. Maybe design the front left pin plate in such a way that you don't need to mill the slot where the detent piece slots into the aluminum plate. I can see the plates being made with simple 1/4" plate stock, a drill press, saw, and some type of grinder. Also McMaster Part # 6391K615 may be a good alternative to make bushings for the trigger pins. ID of 0.156" ID, .219" OD, 1/4" length. It's also oil-embeded bronze. Could be cut in half for both sides. Those two parts could make it a little easier for those without a lathe or mill that want to make their own parts.
