It's ironic how the brides say "I let him know I was overweight before hand and he excepts" ... but then the groom is just as much overweight.

I just wanted to say that when she claimed "I'd rather be happy and fat that on a diet and miserable" she was wrong. If you do it right, you are not miserable during the process of loosing weight. It might not be easy, but weight can be lost without painful exercise, without constant hunger and without cravings. Being fat is much more uncomfortable.

mary burger This is a situation that you’re facing which is quite unique for you. Dieting can be barely noticeable if you find a good rhythm. Since you can’t exercise and have food intolerances, of course dieting is going to leave you miserable. For me, I can easily live off of 1,500 calories a day just by cutting out un-needed snacks (I do have a bit of junk once a week though) and managing my portions.

If I have any advice for these ladies it’s to do exactly what you want on your wedding day!! Get a dress that you want! Do what you want! Get the dress YOU want! Not what anyone else wants. I made a mistake when I got married. At the last minute I got the big traditional white wedding dress everyone said I would “regret” not getting for my wedding day. I HATED it!! So a couple years later we renewed our vows. We told everyone to keep their opinions to themselves. I got married in a black dress at a Christmas Tree Farm. It was amazing! Do what you want! Find a dress you feel lovely in! No matter of you’re a size 2 or 42.

Everyone can be confident, regardless of size. It is however way easier when you're not just thin, but healthy, meaning you eat well and exercise. Everyone should strive to get better, not because they hate how they are now, but because they love themselves. Exercising 3+ times a week can do miracles for mental health.
@geniemeadows5122
@geniemeadows5122 5 жыл бұрын
@Mr Knarf....a tubby person could be sort of happy but a really obese person cannot. Same as a really skinny person. There is too much worldly pressure and too many mean people about and too many obstacles for the really obese. I suffered so much being little and skinny for decades total belittling (a lot was done by jealous girls and women)...but evil boys and men also when younger. I have seen both sides now. (I had many dates though when younger - incredibly handsome ones). Now I'm overweight and trying to lose some. I am an oldie and cannot walk far in Winter and our paths are slippery. I have had a broken leg twice. My mental health suffers too if I see dogs stuck on chains in the neighbourhood or hear them in a shed if i was out walking as I did once ..it's too shocking and haunts me the animals so I cannot walk around the neighbourhood. I think housework is ok for exercise mostly. I have lost some weight just cutting out sugar.

Genie Meadows I've never mentioned happiness, just confidence. Tips from someone who is studying fitness and nutrition: remember that losing weight is almost entirely dependent on your diet, exercising to lose weight is mostly ineffective. I'd recommend downloading MyFitnessPal or a similar app to track calories (they're free): it seems like a big hassle, in reality it only takes a couple of minutes per day and is by far the easiest way to truly realize what and how much you're eating, to stick to a plan and reach goals. Remember it's going to take a while, it's not a sprint but a marathon, not a diet but a lifestyle change for the better. Good luck.

Honestly from an overweight woman to the next, its so hard being judge because of something as simple as our weight. Yes we know the health complications that comes with being obese but to constantly be judged about it is also unhealthy for our mental health. It’s okay for us to want to have dress options for our wedding day. I went from a size 20 to a size 14 (still going down) and the only thing that made me lose weight was me being happy with myself at the weight I was, then saying “okay, let’s knocked down these health risks.” No one whoever called me hurtful names made me want to lose weight is all I’m saying. So maybe offer some positivity rather than negativity.

I'm overweight, but my husband thinks I am gorgeous and I felt amazing, beautiful and sexy on my wedding day. I only had to try 3 dresses on before I found the one I loved. Yes, I wish I was skinnier, but I love myself and my husband loves me, and I feel beautiful every day. No one should hate themselves. Picking on overweight people and constantly harping on them about their weight only makes them feel bad and mostly makes them just eat more. Studies have proven that fat shaming people has a detrimental effect and actually discourages them from losing weight.

I can't stand it when people say "I'm sorry, but"...and then make their opinion known. You're not sorry. It's your opinion, and you're entitled to express it. "I'm sorry" just makes you a tool. If you're sorry, don't say it! Then you won't have to "be sorry". Just keep it to yourself. On to the main point now: Whether it is "beautiful" or "ugly"...it IS what it IS, and here's the point a lot of people leaving comments aren't touching on: FAT PEOPLE are the LAST social group for which it is OK to openly ridicule, judge, and discriminate against. Why? I'll tell you why. The reason why is...they have a problem that is readily visible on the outside of their bodies. When you look at a FAT PERSON, you know in an instant what they like to do: eat too much. Therefore, because the result of their problem shows up in visible form all over their body, you think it's ok to point your finger and judge them for having that problem. For all of you sitting comfortably in your socially acceptable form (thin), who think it is OK to judge FAT PEOPLE...I ask you...WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM? Or...are you perfect??? Or...do you surf porn and jerk off all day? Do you spend money you don't have? Are YOU addicted to alcohol, drugs, or sex? Do you have an addiction that you can keep safely hidden from the world, therefore escaping society's scorn, judgement and ostracization? Or are you the Second Coming of Jesus, with NO PROBLEMS of your own? Every fat person knows deep down inside that they are probably going to leave this planet early because of their problem. There is not a fat person on this planet that would freely choose to be fat...no matter what they say. This world is a cold, compassionless place. Fat people are abused because they have a problem that they can't hide. What are YOU hiding? Come out into the light! Be judged, just as you are judging others.

When obesity is a common problem like in the US, the UK and mexico, it is not a mental issue anymore but a cultural problem. Fast food and restaurant culture are for the big part responsible for this. The british and americans basically eat garbage in unusual sizes. Look at the scandinavians, even their fast food burgers are made of healthy ingredients and in normal portions.

You know you don't have to write all of that? You can summarize it easily. Here, let me do it for you. "You don't need to apologize for sharing your opinion. Also, fat people are the easiest people to discriminate against because their problem is clear. Stop judging them so harshly and think about your own problems." There you go. I can't stand it when people repeat themselves over and get over emotional.

Fat shaming is big in the US- I've never been very big but was always trying to be thinner. Once I'd get there I noticed I wasn't any happier nor did the man I was with like me any better. All of that is nuts. I'm older now and feel fine about my body because I have healed a lot of unconscious issues I didn't know I had. I feel beautiful inside now sometimes which I never felt as a younger woman and it spreads to my body. It's just one more way to put women down for something, anything. I think we are all getting done with the you're less mindset. I loved these women and the shop owners. It was very helpful for me to see how hard it is for them. Thank-you to everyone in the documentary - very brave. And whoever did it - this is a great service to all of us. Thank-you again!

@@notsomuchhere1387 Exactly. Some of these women first claim to be comfortable and confident with their size.... yet one of them even said she thought she'd look ridiculous in a wedding dress and almost dressed like a cherry/hotdog instead. First they say they're confident and comfortable being morbidly obese, and then they begin to describe how uncomfortable it really does make them. And why wouldn't it, when people generally treat obese people like shit and you have 2-3x more weight than you're supposed to have weighting down on your joints, heart and vital organs? Now that's not to say that average/thin women never suffer from low self esteem or health issues, but honestly, how can these women say that they love themselves whilst full well KNOWING that their chosen diet/lifestyle is like begging for/making them experience extreme discomfort, fatigue, disease, premature death, risky pregnancies, social stigma, etc?? One of them even said about her attempts to lose weight in the past: "well the diet made me miserable" …… so basically she admits to prioritizing how good junk food makes her feel to her health/LIFE.... and I can sympathize with that because that's a mentality I had to grow out of myself, but at some point, they need to realize that it is not mentally or physically healthy for themselves nor their children/future children to treat food as pleasure rather than fuel. Food should not control your life, much like drugs and other vices shouldn't. Besides, I have lost 100lbs within the last 10 months (100 more to go) and I eat foods that I like all the time. Sure I can't have all the carb loaded foods I formerly used to numb my depression with, but I'd say the physical and mental comfort and clarity I have gained (even only half way to my goal) is well worth it. Truly loving yourself is, like you said, giving yourself enough tough love and discipline to make a change for your own good and realize that you can't ALWAYS have your cake and eat it too. Truly loving yourself is prioritizing staying YEARS/DECADES longer amongst the living (and with a better quality of life) rather than giving that up for the few minutes of pleasure you get from eating junk food daily.

Almost 3 decades ago I went with a friend to a bridal-gown shop. She wanted to get married and was looking for a dress and asked me to come along and give her advice. She was very skinny and could wear pretty much everything. I'm a plus-size and was always limited style-wise due to my bodyfigure. Well, she asked the saleswoman if I could try on a wedding gown, too, because I might be the next one to get married (this was NOT my idea!) and the saleswoman gave an up-and-down-look of disgust and then begrudgingly looked for a dress in my size. When she came back with it, she said it was the only dress they have that could fit me and just to spite her, I wanted to try it on. It was the ugliest ruffle-thing I have EVER seen! It came with a bolero-jacket with a huge ruffle-collar which made me look like a giant curtain! And the cut of the dress itself made me look like a giant marble! I damn near cried when I looked into the mirror and swore to myself that I'd NEVER EVER wear a wedding-gown EVER! I did get married a few years later and wore a champaign-colored kinda business-costume kinda thing. Not really nice looking, but it covered my figure at the right places up nicely. The marriage didn't last and I've been divorced for over 2 decades now and not wanting to get married again. So that's my story of "finding my wedding-dress....not"

I‘m not at all into traditional wedding dresses myself...if I ever get married, it‘ll either be outdoors, in a flowy, romantic white summer dress or in an elegant, white lady suit, if it’s a winter wedding....not something stiff and pompous and ‚bridal‘.

I don't agree with being extremely overweight or obese for general health reasons, but every woman deserves to feel beautiful and loved by their spouse regardless if they're obese or a twig. I think the people being rude in the comments are missing the point. Most extremely overweight women would love to lose a couple lbs, but they wanted to feel pretty in their own skin for once in a while without judgement or anxiety.

If you're happy being obese, great. Having been there, I find it very hard to believe. Even just being 3 dress sizes bigger than I should have been, there was incredible work, cost and discomfort in just trying to either conceal or compliment my size with clothing. Just trying to function normally as a woman took so much more effort. Maybe I was just too broke and lazy to be fat?!

I always think it looks exhausting and hard work to just move and function when I see obese people. So I just wouldn’t ever choose to be that big because I feel like it would personally impair my life far too much. Plus I would have to eat so much to maintain those calories and it would make me feel ill to feel so full from it all.

Panda Pup That’s not true at all lol...There were no fat people at Auchwitz. Why do you think America’s fat now just so recently? It’s surely not because of genetics. Also fat people have a higher metabolism because they need more calories to maintain their large body mass.

That's very inspiring as weight loss is not always easy for many if they have medical conditions. Congratulations to all the couples. I wonder if there is a documentary for short statured brides?

Who has a problem with that? I think people are just concerned about obesity being glamorised when it's actually a deadly disease. Is that not understandable?

Everyone deserves to look and feel beautiful on their wedding day no matter what size they are. Your wedding is a day to celebrate love between two people and love comes in all shapes and sizes. It’s wonderful this shop gives plus size women beautiful dresses. I don’t know why all the comments are focused on these women losing weight. They don’t need to lose weight if they are happy with themselves. Obviously it’s not healthy but this documentary is about love not weight loss. Love goes deeper than just looks, we should all be so lucky to find someone who loves us for who we really are. Celebrate those of us who have found it. Positive vibes guys

There’s always a man out there for any lady be it she’s tall, plump, skinny, short, overweight, doesn’t have a big 🍑 or med sized. You name it... there’s always a guy there to adore a lady. I loved watching the video especially the wedding ceremony session. I believe at the end of the day you just being you is all that matters for some guys out there. They’ll take you for who you are.

It's not just the bigger sizes that suffer. In the US the avg sample size us 8 aka 4 or 6 in street clothes. Some designers will send 10 or 12 but many do not. I worked selling gowns for about 4 years. And I remember many a brides who wear a size 12 or 14 jeans even a 10 and can't barely squeeze into the floor samples. They were the ones who were entirely devastated not thinking they would be "plus size" and able to try on anything they liked. We had many tricks to make them a bit bigger or smaller but not much room for that. It always broke my heart bc that was me too. I knew it wasn't going to be easy since I wore a 16 jeans but I ended up having to order a 22 and it was too small!!! Every size above 16(street 12) you are charged a massive upcharge for extra fabric and work. So your BFF who orders a 10 in the same dress you order in 20 pays a min of $200 LESS than you did. Add in excessive costs for alterations bc the dress makers don't make to fit you they just add inches. Many times makes the dress look awful and your bride wants to kill you. It's supposed to be the most amazing day and it turns into a nightmare 99% of the time unless you can find a plus size shop like this one.

Gemma...you looked stunning, really. Xx I just wanted to add that I’m six foot two, skinny so it’s embarrassing...I totally understand exactly what you meant about being just “normal for one day”.I was born with something called Marfans syndrome, and both our daughters are tall, not as tall as me, but “normal” tall. I keep tearing up thinking how you to struggle to like yourself. I’m 54 now, and when I met my husband was the first time I ever felt totally loved, accepted and normal. Don’t you waste your life, worrying what people think or the comments they say...believe me...it shows you far more what’s wrong with THEM than anything about you. Good luck to all the BEAUTIFUL, because you ALL are beautiful...just NEVER FORGRT IT! ❤️ xxx

When I was size 12 to 14 I was labelled obese by a health care professional. I was shocked because I'd thought of myself as being in a healthy weight range & my weight was 64 kg. I don't bother with scales anymore & go by how comfortable I am within myself & how I look rather than other people's judgement
