Lol! She was just a big fish! It must have been fun to watch the fry grow.

Hi thanks for watching and commenting.The fry were a nice surprise and yes it was great to raise them. It didn't stop there though, I had to get 2 more tanks for all the batches of fry they kept having.

Hi Debbie- love your Biorb maintenance video! Thank you for showing and explaining the maintenance process so clearly- it was super helpful! I also really appreciate that you pointed out the different maintenance tools you used (lower cost alternatives included) and provided great tips for the aquarium cleaning process. Congratulations on your new fish aquarium surprise additions and keep up the awesome videos!

I have the 9.2 gallon BiOrb Tube. I started with a 4 gallon round Classic but that is too small for my Betta. I really don’t like the ceramic medium so I followed instructions to Pimp the Filter (as he says). Basically, cut aquarium filter rings that go around the filter. With this, I can use Carib Sea gravel and can get 4 Cory catfish (all either male ir female!) and use real plants. I’m almost set to transfer Rocky my betta into his big, new digs! Water tests are great, new heater is keeping 79-80f. Will keep the 4 gallon as an infirmary. Thanks for showing the cleaning procedure. I have read and heard that the sponge can be rinsed and re-used a few times. Cheers!

Thank you for your comment and all the info.. Your bigger pimped tube sounds great. I think your betta will love it and the cory's will help to clean the bottom too. Good luck with it all.😊

If you ever get a big fish and think its pregnant. Do yourself a fave grab a nursery. And put the big fish in it and leave it to see what happens. That way if they have babies after shes done you can jut take her out and leave the babies on there safely.

I’m new to the biorb aquariums. Why wouldn’t you remove the gravel rocks at the bottom and clean them? Why didn’t you siphon out more water and replace it with clean water?
@debbiestropicalplantsandfi59013 жыл бұрын
Hi -The gravel rocks on the bottom are in fact biological media. They have a vast surface area for good bacteria to thrive on. So I do not wash them at all. I only do a 10% or 20% maximum water change every 4-5 weeks as it's best to do little and often. It's all about maintaining the tanks biological eco system but giving it a gentle refresh if that makes sensee. I hope that helps.and good luck with your biorb.

How is your Biorb doing now? I have the same tank, and I regret it big time. The filtration/lava rock substrate is terrible! I ended up trying the pimp my filter hack and then just completely revamped it by not using the middle filter (I added a medium sponge filter that I hid in the back along with the heater and biogravel.) I wish I could easily customize this tank, but the lid has only a tiny space for cords/tubes and the light stinks for foliage. I like the aesthetic of it, but even after cycling and doing weekly 15% water changes, I found issues with nitrate spiking with my API test kit. I’ve had this tank for six months. I know I’m not alone in this because many people seem to have issues with this tank. I’m hoping just converting it to a traditional tank will cause less issues. I have two traditional tanks that perfect and well balanced. The Biorb was an expensive mistake! I only have one hearty betta in there. I feel bad for the little guy.

Hi what a shame the biorb didn't work out for you. I hope you do get it running better. I do still have mine and I do still really enjoy my one. I now have it as a cold water tank with 2 fancy goldfish in it. I originally had livebearing tropical fish, which loved breeding in there and I had to get another tank for all the fry to go in. When I had well over a hundred babies I decided to switch to fancy goldfish. I do a month;ly change of the centre bottom filter with a biorb compatable sponge, granules and airstone that are so much cheaper than the proper ones. I do a weekly 10% water change using rainwater from my garden, which is really easy and quick to do. The fish are thriving but I do find it slightly annoying that the water gets a orangy tinge to it despite what I do. I only have 2 small plants in there now and they do OK with the lighting. I must say that I really don't like the look of the lava rock bottom and they go rather green with algae and is not nice on the eye. That said I think the biorb overall looks really attractive andI I do like the remote control multi color lights which none of my other tanks have. I got this model as its easy to take the lid off and get access to the whole tank. Most of the other biorb models dont have very easy access and our model does have great uninterupted 360 viewing.My fish are healthy so I still love my biorb and I hope you persevere with your one for your betta fish. Good luck and thanks for commenting.😊

Is it true a fish with this type of tube tank can become blind?

Hi, to answer your question, when I made this video I had not kept fish for a few years. Things have changed in the fishkeeping world so although i had some knowledge, the biorb set up was new to me..

Hi Debbie, I have watched both your setting up and maintenence videos tonight. They are great, well explained and given me some ideas. I have been setting my 30l up and about to get my first fish...exciting! A quick question.... Do you ever move and clean debris from under your ceramic media?...thanks.
@debbiestropicalplantsandfi59013 жыл бұрын
Hi Mina Thank you for watching my video's and I am so happy to hear that they helped you. I remember, It is exciting getting the first fish. I am in the UK and our water has lot's of chemicals in it so they say to wait at least a week. I don't know where you are from, maybe it's better water and you can do it in 2 days like biorb say. As it happened I used rain water so I did not really have to wait. To answer your question, I washed the media before putting it in and no I don't have any debris to clean. The ornaments I take out and wash every month but my tank still looks great and is so easy to maintain. Good luck with your one and the new fish.😊

@@debbiestropicalplantsandfi5901thank you! I'm also in UK and have been running the tank for a week. I've seen so many mixed messages about cleanliness, fish stock, breeds and numbers. Your videos are very useful in clarifying. I'm looking forward to seeing your next one, in the meantime I hope the babies are thriving.

@@Me-nw1bx Thank you and as you are in the UK like me you did the right thing waiting a week. Glad I clarified it for you. My fish are thriving. They have had around 40 babies so far. I had to get a bigger tank for the babies. It's great though. I will do a video on their progress, but right now I am busy in my garden and concentrating on filming that. I also have another channel on resin art so I am so busy with that too. Good luck again with your new fish. x
