My Black Templars Terminator Captain conversion!

I've started in to my second Leviathan box and I knew I wanted to paint these space marines for my Black Templar force! When it comes to stand out models like this Terminator captain, I didn't want to feel like I was repainting the same model in a different scheme, so I wanted to add a little extra. Partly inspired by my recent podcast episode with Pete the Wargamer who is the GOAT when it comes to conversions! I added some cool 3D bits from Grey Tide Studios, altered the base as well and came up with this beast of a result! What do you think? Have you done much conversion work lately? Cool video Andy, certainly interesting seeing the conversion work and yep definitely would like to see more. On a side note as you mentioned your second librarian, well I told you in a previous comment I was planning to corrupt mine, and he has in fact fallen to chaos and will be leading my new Iron Warriors army for tenth, originally he was goin to become a Nightlord but I don’t need another “leader” for that army (which is mostly a display project anyways as I spend so long on each mini). So yeah he’s going to be an Iron Warrior I’ll try to get an image to you once he’s finished.

Ah yes, The "Where's Wally" game, Warhammer 40k edition. As a chaos player... I lose that game frequently. XD 'Where did that F&*$in' tooth come from?!?" Someday, I shall re-envision my Word Bearers and do heavy conversion work on them. That will be an expensive undertaking though so it will be after I finish school and get some saving stored away again. Love the conversion too! @@MediocreHobbies Hell yes! also Graytide Studio is getting ready for a new KS in September :-) they also put out a new little small kit for free 7 bits very much inspired by the10th edition starter set (now all your guys can have Nid armour in places) thought you might like to know for yourself if you didnt :-)

That was amazing. It shows great minds think a like, when I was thinking of doing Black Templars I painted two old marines I had two different ways and the one with Corvus Black armour and Rakarth Flesh shoulder pads just looked way more eye catching. We also think a like when it comes to that Librarian. I had to buy a new one as I had an accident with my Leviathan model during priming, and while I was building him I pulled out my Grey Knight Terminator spares and I think he'd look really good using the Champions Force Halberd in place of his axe. You can also add a few extra trinkets and replace the back icon with a Paladin one. I love seeing conversion content on KZbin, done a few myself, so definitely do more. And yes, a Terminator Marshal or Marshal in Terminator armour, is the correct term for this guy. I plan to use the Blood Angel Terminator Captain I got from Made-To-Order and mix him in with the new captain, once I get the starter set contents.

Thanks man, you can always get these parts printed from sellers with licenses online and have them sent out to you if you don't have a printer yet! I did just do a video on a very good and very cheap printer though if you're looking out for one!

Looks amazing as usual Andy👍🏻 I love the converted bits, they really hit the Black Templar aesthetic. Quick question- do you ever paint the name scrolls and/or name your characters? I can see on the original Captain’s right shoulder and the new ones storm shield that you have left them basecoated in a neutral colour.

He looks awesome but the sash across his shield looks odd to me. I would expect it to be red or white, and maybe have script on it. It looks like a mourning sash instead (which maybe it is--maybe he's newly elevated after the death of the shieldbearer).

I just use normal cheap glue from my local deals or poud shop. 4 tubs for €1.50. Really Good.

Model turned out brilliant with the Black Templar themed additions. I don't have a 3D printer but have looked at popgoesthemonkey for some parts. Are there any online sellers of 3D printed parts that are compatible with 40k?

Yes! You can actually get these exact ones printed by other people, if you go to grey tide studio you’ll see a list of people who has a license to sell printed versions of their files! I would also highly recommend proxywars, they have a lot of licences for printing various 40k style designers, plus the quality of their prints is really good! Not having a printer definitely doesn’t hold you back any more-check Etsy as well and just type in what you would like! There’s places there that you can buy files from and then send them to somewhere else to be printed and shipped to you!

How do you reach under the cape when the model is all built together like that? I don’t like doing sub assemblies, but since mine is built altogether, I’m having a hard time figuring out how to paint under the cape

Think about it-if it’s hard to reach with a brush, it’s probably hard to see as well so most of it will be in shadow! Don’t overthink it too much, use the smallest brush you have and if you can’t reach all of it, don’t worry too much.
