I'm a Harley rider myself and have been for nearly 30 years now so I understand where you're coming from. I ordered my first new Harley in late 1994 and picked it up in August of 1995. 1995 Harley Davidson Fatboy. And I still own that bike today. Even after 2 divorces and a couple lost jobs I was still able to hang on to it after all these years. I have two other Harleys but my 95 Fatboy will always be with me no matter what. After I'm gone my wife can do what she wants with it but for now it stays with me. I'm happy you got this bike back. I can tell it means a lot to you.

What a great story. So glad you are reunited with your bike. Your dealer really has gone the extra distance, first to track down the bike, and then to reset the suspension components and find a centre stand for you. Service and buying parts for BMW's is expensive, never mind finding parts for older models (ask me how I know haha), but you have persevered and now have that wonderful bike back to ride and enjoy. The high quality of the construction on these models makes the investment in parts and maintenance well worthwhile. These, along with the RS versions of the 1100, are some of the best looking motorcyles ever made, in my opinion. It is worth owning one of these just to admire it sitting in the driveway or the garage. .

Great story! I remember test riding this exact bike in the early 2000's and loved how comfortable it was. It was a bit down on power but handled well at 7/10ths and despite its weight and the complex suspension I came very close to getting one and still think what might have been. That mandarin orange is iconic.

The dude who had this bike all this time replaced the stock exhaust with a Staintune system. I think that company is no longer in business. But it's a bit louder than the stock but it seems way faster than it was

I just bought myself yesterday a red one from 2004 and 37k kilometers on.... I really love this bike and it has power from below. Great bike,Great story and that you got it back after somany years. You mentioned a Suzuki Katana. In the 80,s the Katana 1100 was my first brandnew bike i bought,swapped it after 2 years for a Suz 1gsx R 1100RR. But still regretting it that i sold the Katana. Now i bought this january the same model Katana again. But it need a ton of work to bring it back in his original state. But this one has a aftermarket Turbo and Intercooler on it. I am hoping to get it registered this year again. And i will be as happy as i was with my First Brandnew Katana. Safe travels on that beauty of a BMW

It's notable that I thought all these months your "bike" was going to be a Harley. More than surprised you're just like me. My journey was '84 GPz 750, '85 VF750F, '94 VFR750R (Iron Butt and Saddle Sore completer), '00 YZF R-1 and, like you I finally got "the bike", a '97 Ducati 748 w/an 853 engine. "The Bike" has been with me uninterrupted since 2001 and I don't plan on it going anywhere. Nice to know another unicorn, meaning a fellow motorhead and scale modeling nerd. ~Joe

Congrats on the bike, so happy you got it back. There’s a Ducati rotting away in my garage that I’m hoping to get back on the road someday to similar ends (though point of diversion was young kids vs costs, though $$$ is a related issue of course). I bought a 2001 r1100s with 17k miles in 2020 and have ridden it up over 32000 since. Love these bikes and they are insane value for the money if you are looking for a real sporting sport touring machine. Ride safe and see you on the road around New England! I love the run out from S. Shore MA to Little Compton RI!

What a lovely story. I did notice your bars are above the yoke, a popular mod for taller riders, so I'm assuming the owner who put the higher suspension on did that. If you're shorter then you might want to put them back to original. I'm 6ft and put mine back under and find it comfortable enough for long journeys. Enjoy
@barbatosrex9473 Жыл бұрын
You have a keen eye, I will be putting them back for next season. I do feel the difference and it causes pain after 20 minutes of riding
@martinpoll1040 Жыл бұрын
@barbatosrex9473 I also prefer the look with them under, where they're supposed to be. Another good point is the bars no longer get close to my touring screen. Having broken both wrists in the past I just use my core more and get hardly any weight on the wrists, which is a common complaint from some riders.
