Hello Sir. Thank you for this video. I'm ex-army veteran. My grandad fought in the battle of Mametz Wood (Welch Battalion). He survived the great war, but suffered badly after a gas attack. I never got to know him personally only through what my father told me about him.. My father fought in WW2. He was wounded three times, taken prisoner in 1942. Survived the death march from Poland pow camp to German pow camp, where he was one of many that were liberated. He would hardly ever talk about the war. He passed away when I was 29 years old. I miss him so much . Not just as a father, he was my best friend. He was so proud, and worried when I too became a soldier...... Just like them in a Welsh Regiment. I'm 64 yrs old now, and hope for ever lasting peace, war is tragic. So many lives are lost. If political leaders or class want war, let them fight each-other. Soldiers are Lions led by these donkeys (Pompous Arses). P.s... I have seen the film . My Boy Jack. I always hoped for his parents sake that his body/grave would be found. So heart-breaking it must of been for them. Harry Patch. What a remarkable man. I have the book. Sir, on behalf of all the fallen soldiers. I salute you.

Thank you for your great comment it means alot to me, I'm so glad your farther and grandfather survived the wars too, I have visited the Welsh memorial at mametz wood and did a video too. It was hard to stand there looking out towards the German line and wondering how the men would have felt being there, harry patch was an amazing man and he lived a great life ,reading his book made me want to go there, you should check out my others videos from France and Belgium, there is a good documentary about finding John Kipling, it's call "finding the fallen "by Battle Guide, watching it was how I found where he was. The wars took away so many very brave me I just hope it never happens again, it's just a totally waste of life, Thank you again and I wish you a long and happy life, Lest we forget.

@@mrbsp1 Hello Sir. Thank you for the wonderful & sincere reply. I shall take a look at the documentary. I have been doing some research and came across today, one of my grandfathers brothers, who was sadly killed in action whilst leading an attack on the German lines in 1916. His is buried in Mametz. Department de la Somme, Picardie, France. If you are interested. I can send you his name, age, rank and service number. . Now that I know these details. I would love to go visit his grave someday. I have never been to France . But due to PTSD . I don't drive very far, only to my local supermarket and back. which isn't that far . The stress of driving from South Wales to France, would be too much for me to handle. Thank you again for your kind words. We shall remember them. Philip.

@@mrbsp1 Hello Sir . Thanks again for the reply. My grandfathers, brothers name is: Frederick Rowlands. Service Number: 23396 Rank: Sergeant. : Welch Regiment. Killed in action. 07 July 1916 Age 27. I believe his grave is somewhere in Mametz. Department de la Somme, Picardie, France. I do hope that this information will be of some help to you. I also hope that I will be able to visit his grave one day. If you ever get the chance to go back to Mametz cemetery and locate his headstone. Perhaps make a video? Please, say hello . Tell him, he will forever be in my thoughts. Old Soldiers never die, they just fade away. "We don't know them all, but we owe them all." "Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it: It flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it." " We stand for the flag, we kneel for the fallen." Sir you are a good man, and I wish you a long healthy, happy life. Lest we forget - lest we forget. Philip.

Did you know, all grave stones from the commonwealth are made from Portland Stone?
@mrbsp13 ай бұрын
Yes I already knew this and as the demand got so high they used limestone headstones from Hopton Wood quarry in Derbyshire.
