I was 21 or 22 at the time (around 91-92j I went to a bar with my Mom and before I could even take my coat off and sit to order a drink this guy walked up and asked if I wanted to dance. I told him maybe in a little bit as I wanted to have a drink first. He came back up to me not even 5 minutes later and asked again we had just ordered our drinks as they were busy, I told him again maybe in a bit. This continued for at least the next couple of hours. I had been dancing with some of the other regulars I knew so every time he started to approach I was off again. I had just started refusing to dance with him something in my gut said stay away from him. I went to the restroom and he approached my Mom and asked why I wouldn’t I dance with him told her “I make over a $100,00 a year (in the 90’s that was really good money) I could make her so happy” my Mom’s reply was “ She don’t care how much you make if she doesn’t like you she don’t like you” after that I talked to the owner and told him of my problem who knew us and he sent the bouncer over to him to tell him I was off limits to him. The owner and bouncer knew me very well as I had been bringing my Mom to that bar since 1988 when I turned 18. It was 21 and over even then but they knew I wouldn’t touch a drink and I held that trust with them until I was 21 then it was party time.

S2: Yeah no. 1) Being someone's emergency contact is not legal or binding; otherwise, you'd need to draw up legal papers for it. As it is, you don't even have to tell someone you've put them down as an emergency contact. 2) You didn't know about the allergies or medical "details" so you couldn't have provided them with the information they needed any faster. 3) Your abuser's family is now abusing you...hmmm. Sounds like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Tell them a) you broke up three years ago. B) you didn't even know about his medical conditions or allergies. C) you never asked to be his emergency contact and it's not your fault he hasn't updated it since, or, you know, put his family on there. D) His negligence at updating relevant medical information does not take away your bodily autonomy to never have anything to do with your abuser again. Say if they want to sue they are more than welcome to see you in court, and you are countersuing for emotional distress over the abuse he put you through, their harassment, etc.

Some people have it out for people outside their social class, whether that person has actually done anything wrong sadly it seems. Honestly if I found my partner to be rich I would be interested in hearing about how their life went then thinking they are spoiled for having money, especially if they showed nothing like that in 8 months. Some rich people looking down on others isn't good at all but people who aren't rich looking down on someone who is isn't any better.

If you believe your partner is cheating, the relationship is already on fire. Searching the partner's diary/phone/computer for evidence is pouring gasoline on the fire instead of a fire extinguisher. If you want to save your relationship, you talk to your partner. If you don't trust them to be monogamous or tell the truth to you, just save yourself and everyone else the grief and break up

Given that wealth is gained off the backs of others(many of whom are overworked/underpaid/needlessly struggling), I don't blame "a lot of people" for wanting change. Nor do I blame people for choosing to support other systems and refuse to bootlick the wealthy. But, that doesn't excuse people like the boyfriend. He's just an asshole no matter what he believes. As someone said below, he was likely a Controlling asshole who found that someone with greater resources would be harder for him to trap.

2:00 I agree with this comment. My boyfriends parents are rich however my boyfriend himself is not. He has ADHD, ADD and takes antidepressants and anxiety medication. He struggled a lot and there was a time he'd barely eat or sleep and he even showed me pictures of that hard time when he was really skinny...like.. REALLY skinny. Skinnier than me and I felt horrible for him. The only thing his parents provided for him was a big college fund ONLY for college, they never handed him money all willy nilly. He describes his family as "rich people that earned and invested their money and don't flaunt their wealth" meanwhile another part of his family does flaunt their wealth and is basically stereotypical rich people that buy fancy stuff any time they can. He's talked about his struggles in college, being pressured about choosing a degree and sticking to it. He kept changing his major several times, using up a lot of his college fund and ultimately running out. Eventually that's how we met. After years of him struggling, one year he took care of his grandpa and he decided to be a civil drafter because his grandpa was and he attended the local community college and paid for his own classes. That's how we met and eventually he told me the story. I never had the expectation of my boyfriend paying for everything in my life or on our dates however my dad has said "he comes from a rich family, why do you pay for most of the dates?" And I get irritated. I pay for them because HE doesn't have lots of money and I'm fine with that. My boyfriend is kinda an introverted extrovert like me. He's the type of person that wants to stay inside and just play video games in his spare time to save money. However since my bf is the first person I've ever gone on a date with, I always try to find new and exciting events and I try to find cheap ones. I love my boyfriend for who he is. I don't care if his family is rich and he's not. That's not why I love him. Plus I've met his family and they're kind and wonderful people so they're cool people I'd be happy to have as my in-laws one day as my biggest value in life is family. I didn't care if his family is rich, I just wanted to know if I'd have good in-laws like me and are polite to me and so far his parents make me feel so welcome and that's all that should matter. You hear a lot of nightmare stories about in-laws and I just wanna do my best to avoid that situation and so far I feel like I have.

What is rich these days? I grew up in the horse world. Though my parents did well, our family may have been one of the poorest of the rich. Luckily, we had talent on our side. They are very cool that they pick attraction over money. Realistic too. She is privileged. There is nothing wrong with using it. It can be intimidating to show up in a home that might be significantly more luxurious than your own. Warning would be cool. But her money should not be met with contempt. Last story, you would be surprised how many men and women marry someone they don't love. Usually it's because they can't have the person they want and either settle for someone they like or someone that reminds them of the person they actually want. I've never agreed witht that. If you don't have feelings for someone, don't drag them down to your level. It isn't fair on them or any kids you may have.
@Mario-SunshineGalaxy64
@Mario-SunshineGalaxy64 2 жыл бұрын
The comments on the last post calling the brother controlling or blaming him for the failed marriage are presumptions. Maeve was checking out off the marriage after having to fake being happy for so long, so it’s reasonable that the brother would be looking for evidence of an affair since a change in behavior or routine are often indicators of cheating. Just saying, people are often criticized for snooping or spying on their partners but if it does turn out that they were cheating or something then it’ll be beneficial for them.

It's one thing to say "I have no helpful information to give" it's another thing to say "I hope x dies" People have been charged and convicted for crimes as simple as watching someone drown, they were just by standers and also classed as "just anyone". The hospital also certainly records the calls... Sooo she's gonna have to lawyer up for sure.

It is actually ok to break up with someone because their family is wealthy (you should judge the family and partner on their actual behavior instead of stereotypes, which the bf doesn't seem to have done, but the naked fact is many wealthy families are simply too dysfunctional and overbearing to become involved with and it's ok to act on that). But it's NOT ok to insult and emotionally abuse your partner until they can't stand you anymore, instead of having the class and courage to be honest and decisive, as kindly as possible b/c the problem is yours not theirs. It's certainly not ok to play the victim, to lie and start a smear campaign against them. What a spineless little plague of a boyfriend.

I for one, don’t care if someone is wealthy or not and see monetary worth simply as wealth which doesn’t impress me but for someone to be RICH doesn’t mean they have money as richness comes from the heart in my opinion. First story, OP sounds really cool and the bf is in the wrong, *but* I don't think that people who haven't grown up in poverty realise that its genuinely traumatic to grow up with the constant, pervasive stress around not knowing how you'll make it to the end of the month, having to skip meals and go without the very basics (like not having a working boiler in winter). These experiences do make people resentful of the very rich not just because they have so much but because very often they have that much money from paying those below them poverty wages. So while I dont know if its the case for the BF I definitely get why a lot of people have so much resentment/disdain for the rich and that they can misdirect it like in this case

Of course there were privileges because my parents were wealthy are used to go on yachts and Travelodge airplanes and stuff but now that I’m in adult none of that stuff happens and a lot of my friends thought that at some point when I got older my parents would give me money and I think a lot of them stuck around for that and it was very depressing to know that I didn’t have really any real friends as I got older and those people started to show their true colors. “I understand he was horrible but God don’t like ugly.” He wasn’t just horrible, he was ABUSIVE. Say it with your chest and say it how it actually is next time. “I understand he was abusive, but God don’t like ugly.”

"your not rich you're parents are rich" yall don't seem to understand how being rich works. yes her parents are rich but it's very likely they gave op plenty of money. most rich ppl give their kids trust funds.

Beyond that the OP likely would have that money from the parents as a cushion for quite a lot when growing up. Even if they never directly gave OP money they still had it at their back to cushion them from most failures or could be used if OP was willing most likely.
