Story 1: If someone told me my best friend did a prank pretending to have committed suicide I'd not believe it right away. I wonder what else he did OP might have missed that his friends and family immediately believed her over him with no visible proof. Either way, so glad she is out there and has such a lovely support system both from her friend and ironically his family. It was already so very breakup worthy long before that final prank

Agreed that he likely has a history of being a bit of a jerk, but you might be reading too much into how quickly everyone believed OP. His friends and mother had already heard his side. He admitted to his friends that OP was reacting to a prank, but didn't tell them what the prank was. OP confirmed it was a prank and was able to *immediately* describe what happened. He was even *more* vague and deceptive with his mother. When she called OP, not only did OP answer right away, thus already contradicting her son's story, but OP could hold a coherent conversation. Overall, OP provided much more credible testimony than her ex.

Whether you have PTSD, other mental issues or none at all walking in to see a person who committed suicide is traumatic. Then for that person to reveal it's all a prank doesn't erase those initial feelings of panic, shock, fear and hurt. It's cruel and vicious. So glad she dumped him and so glad his friends and family have turned on him for his cruelty.

@@BruinPhD2009 Missed how old they were at the start of the relationship. Yeah. At that age, even a lot of mentally *healthy* teenagers get so caught up in "someone's paying attention to me" that they ignore full-on warning klaxons. It gets worse if they have no frame of reference for healthy relationships. Come to think of it, a lot of folks think it's totally normal for those who don't have a mental health diagnosis to be completely ignorant on such matters. exactly! Some people might have a phobia of dogs. either simply because they scare them or from a traumatic event in their life. Story 1 - that final 'prank' is absolutely outrageous even without a person having PTSD and mental health concerns. Who the hell does that? That's insane, and far beyond disturbing. I feel like surely any reasonable person would agree that that went too far. And loud sudden noises in the bathroom at night> I thankfully do not have PTSD myself. But I am jumpy as they come regardless. And noisemakers going off in the toilet in the middle of the night - of goodness, I'd be up half the night with my heart racing. These are not pranks. I mean real answer people take painkillers to try and lessen the pain so they can get the job done and most OTC ones are also blood thinners which would also hurry the job up. Or sleeping pills so they can 'go painlessly' It being an empty jar though does mean realisticly he would have probibly puked it up* but that's not the point. *one of the first symptoms of OD'ing on otc meds is gastro distress so puking/shitting as your body tries to save itself at the cost of whatever peace and dignity you thought you'd get. It's why pills alone tends to be more survivable if still very damaging.

Honestly, whenever I hear of pranks on reddit, it’s always something messed up. Especially with all of those warnings 😅 If you ever date someone who refuses to understand what mental health is, leave them. They’re not mature enough to be in a relationship. Although I will say, referring to depression as “spicy sad” is hilarious and will be using that to describe myself when I’m depressed. 😂 Story 2: Don’t feed some stranger’s pets without permission. Especially after being told to stop. Although it’s incredibly unlikely that someone will purposefully poison an animal, it’s very likely a child would feed a dog chocolate, etc. And animals can have allergies. And you’re definitely NTA for getting angry at someone who has been told multiple times to flip off and doesn’t.

Yup, back then it happened too. When I took my most recent Collie (I've had Collies all my adult life) for obedience training the first thing they told me was teach her the "leave it" command. Story two. I had this happen with my dogs. A lady was coming around and feeding them treats, her excuse was to have them "Not bark at her". She didn't pet them or interact with them. Just shoved the treats through the fence. Well there were also problems at the time or teens kicking at the fence when my dogs when they were out and also throwing trash at them. So I was trying to train them not to go to the fence when people were walking. This lady was undoing everything, on top of the idea that she was giving someone else's pets food that could mess with their stomachs. It's not that hard to understand if the owners ask you not to feed their dogs, then don't feed them.

I spent over 30 years working in retail and I often felt I could be the only person some elderly customers spoke to during their entire day. I always made those few minutes with them as pleasant and friendly as possible. One of my elderly customers was showing signs of having had a stroke. I knew where she banked, so I went there to alert them so they could maybe contact her family. My store manager/head office was later contacted by her nephew saying thank you and that his aunt was now doing well and safe in a nursing home. I was right to be concerned as a second stroke would have been fatal to her. Our community matters and we should all be mindful of that.💞

Story #1: OP should have noped out of that relationship a looooonnnng time before he even started pranking her. But she's young and dealing with a lot of other stuff that she is actually working on and trying to move beyond. Plus, I get the impression she has such low self-esteem that she honestly believes she doesn't deserve anyone better. Girl, you deserve so much better than this abusive sociopath. Even being alone for life is better. Glad she left.

Kind of crazy that everyone is his life is calling him the AH, and he is still playing the victim and blaming her. You also know that he know what he did is wrong because he didn't tell the truth to his friends and family.

People need to educate themselves on PTSD....even those that have it. I was laughed out of support groups because "I can't have PTSD from witnessing someone's trauma". I witnessed my dad have a near death experience and had to call the paramedics. My mom, who was there and performed first aid, tells me all the time to get over it and my EX best friend told me the same and that he will die one day anyway.

I had an issue too with someone putting cat treats in the mail slot in the door. My one cat would vomit the treats and her previous meal. I ended up having to block the mailbox with a makeshift bag until I could move to another unit/floor of my apartment building. My cat thankfully recovered but she was still dealing with stomach issues. Through the vet we did an eliminated diet and my cat was on a special diet for the rest of her life. She lived 18 years ❤ I am so grateful for my friends who could help me out with her special diet whenever money was tight. We managed to have a wonderful life together. ❤

21:22 this reminds me of my papa. He never wanted to get another dog because he felt too old and didn’t want us taking care of his responsibilities. So when my stepfather and mom got a puppy, he instantly avoided it. But the “I don’t want the dog dad” cliche happened and they became best friends. This puppy was like his 4th grandchild. Took our dog on long car rides, 3 hour walks. It was adorable. After papa passed you can see how much our dog misses him. Rip papa.

Story 2 NTA. You gotta be careful now a days. Idk what goes on in people's heads that its okay to give unknown treats to other people’s dogs and those who want to poison them. Luckily all our dogs have passed on from old age or euthanized because of cancer, no one was poisoned

Dog story. I have a fence that you can reach through. The kids next door were always trying to feed my small dog. Leaves, flowers, sticks and even chicken legs. I found some burlap garden netting that was very, very cheap. $6.00 for 20 feet by 7 foot and I stapled it to the fence. It gives me a lot more privacy and stops the kids from throwing stuff at my puppy dog.

S1 - Not even taking the Ex’s attitude towards mental health into account, that was not a prank in any sense of the word. That was straight up evil. I don’t blame those friends for turning their backs on him after that. I don’t blame his mom & sister either. This is a wake-up call he needs. S2 - My grandfather had a sweet little dog that he adored. In his 80 years of life, he’d had many dogs, but this was the first time he’d ever had a dog that was HIS dog. His connection to her was deep. He took her almost everywhere w/ him, & when he didn’t she sit by the window all day waiting for him. That all came to a crashing end when the neighbor poisoned her just b/c he could. The day her ashes came back, my grandfather spent over an hour walking around outside spreading them before slumping to his knees. I have never seen my grandfather so broken, & no one in the family ever forgave the neighbor. He was always a rotten fellow.

Wholesome story alert I went to a grocery store in town to pick up these delicious cake bars with raspberry filling. There were several locations of this store in town, but only one had this treat and only sometimes. Unfortunately this one was one of those times when they didn't have it. I asked the lady behind the counter about them and she confirmed they were out. She told me to wait a few minutes. She made me a mini cake with piping and all. It was so adorable! I was outdone and so happy. She came from behind the counter and we had a hug. Then she escorted me to the front and out the door. I didn't even have to pay for it! This was years ago, but I thought about this the other night and it made me smile

Story 2: I think Op was more than polite enough to speak to him kindly as many times as she did before she snapped. You never know what people's motivations are, I knew a seemingly very sweet old man once who dated my grandmother. One day in the truck he swerved trying to hit a cat because he hated them so much, it wasn't in the road or anything so he knew it was someone's pet more than likely. Some people are just evil deep down.

Story 1 was absolutely horrifying to read as someone with very similar issues and CTPSD, I would’ve lost my utter crap and probably lash out by accident in a flashback. A lot of the time people don’t realise setting someone with PTSD or similar problems off could result in a very bad outcome for both, as I’ve had episodes where I was unable to distinguish between people trying to help me and the abusers that caused the problem, and ended up hurting people completely by accident, which I felt truly awful and guilty about afterwards. These issues are no joke, and if you do something like that to someone deliberately, you deserve to have the crap smacked out of you. I hope OP is safe and a lot better off in a different, healthy and supportive environment.

One of my dogs had a severe food allergy so this has immediately put me off feeding animals anything without asking. EMTs came and she said she will NEVER do something like that again.

Second story: 😊this is why training our dogs not to eat anything until you give your permission is extremely important. Many dogs have died by eating things they found in the park that were poisoned. I lived in San Francisco and this was happening to dogs a lot and there was a lot of news coverage about it to not let your dogs eat things in the park because many dogs had already died by poison. I know this is very difficult with puppies, but what I have learned through many puppy trainings is that Puppies should never be outside alone. Puppies should always be supervised Inside and out, and when they cannot be supervised they should be put in Their crate with toys and water because a crate is not a punishment. The crate is simply somewhere for a puppy to go and play and be happy and comfortable while the owner cannot keep a supervised eye on the puppy. This is very important for puppy training. I’m not hostile to the owner and I don’t blame him because he may not know this, but this is something he should be doing. Once the puppy has all their shots he should be taking them out for dedicated walks for their exercise and otherwise keep them supervised or in the crate for the short periods of time he has to do other things and he cannot supervise The puppies. If Dog parents are working from home they can keep the puppy in the same room with them with the door closed. There’s always a way to supervise your puppy or to put them in the crate for a short amount of time, or take them to puppy daycare Until they are able to not eat things unless they are given permission.

I had a problem with this as well. So bad I ended up building my own wooden privacy fence to protect my pups. I live right by a school pickup area where the kids and their families are always messing with my dogs. From rocks being thrown at them to random lunches/foods. I've even had a few middle schoolers climb my old wire fence to try and still my dogs! (They are all smaller breeds that they tried to put in their bags.) The worst ones to be thrown over my fence: Chicken Bones, Deer Legs, and (to my horror) a half bag of cement. Last one ended with me taking my poor dog to the vet since he (not the smartest) ate it and cemented his mouth shut, among other things. Sadly he didn't make it. I started my fence the very next day.
