I've had a few requests from people asking for a home tour since I started making videos in Saquarema. I never got around to doing one there so I decided to do one here in Florianopolis. So here it is, a tour of our new apartment. It's a 2 bed 2 bath 800 square foot single story apt. in Praia dos Ingleses on the northern part of the island. It's a pretty typical apartment for this area and came fully furnished. I will be doing more videos about daily life here in Brazil so let me know in the comments below what type of content y'all would like to see.

0:55 as a carioca woman who lived in/ traveled to another Brazilian states, Rio’s condominium complexes are literally the winners for me when it comes to having nice stuff inside them for a reasonable monthly fee! And my dad bought his own apartment in one of these complexes and I will tell it wasn’t mad expensive for literally buying an apartment in such a nice condo! My rent example: I used to live in a 700sqm apartment right in Rio’s city (about 25min away from Christ The Redeemer, and 1h in the worse but common big city traffic times)… My complex (closed only for ppl who lived inside it) had a giant pool, a sauna, a small/ medium size ballroom for birthdays or wtv (you just had to book a date), some areas for barbecues, a playground for kids, a game room (w/ snooker, ping-pong, table soccer and etc), a room with some toys (for kids to, for example, hang out when it was raining outside), an open gym (for playing basketball, soccer, dodgeball and wtv you felt to) and (since it was big enough) a decent amount of space for you to have your morning walks, for kids to play hide & seek and etc and security system/ guard (also, the area was rly safe to walk through since there were always lots of ppl walking, going back and forth from, going to work, going to do their groceries nearby and etc)… You know how much I used to monthly pay for that? R$2200 (currently around $415 USD)! For all of that and being in a famous city, ppl usually get surprised when I tell them how much I used to pay (even some fellow Brazilian ppl)! Well… Btw I heard you recently became a dad! Congratulations to you and your wife! God blesses the 3 of you, my brother!

Hello neighbor. My Brazilian boyfriend and I are staying this month of July in the Ingleses Norte neighborhood on R. Recanto do Sol, in an Airbnb rental. Your outside tour looks just like our street. I’ve wondered if the west side hills had a trail. Our building is literally meters from the hillside. And two blocks to the Ingleses Norte beach. I would love to stay in this rental longer term, but it’s outside my budget. This apartment we are in, is 1 bedroom two bathrooms. Not quite sure why a 1 bedroom needs a social bathroom but we are using both of them of course while we stay here. The humidity and mold in the rooms was an issue in our last month’s airbnb rental, but these bathrooms here have windows in the shower boxes that open into an inner building airshaft. So there’s always a nice breeze. Anyway, fun to see your new place. Congrats on the pregnancy.

Thank you! Yeah you guys are really close . The trail is called Caminho dos Morros das Feiticeiras and it starts right behind the northern most apartment complex. It's a nice 1 mile hike to Praia Brava. Also you should check out the little corner bar/restaurant Jardim dos Fuscas, their food is amazing!

@@americaninbrasil Hi, again, thanks for the prompt reply. We watched your earlier video about the process for marriage and residency in Brazil. My boyfriend and I are wondering if we could take the two of you to lunch or dinner to get your thoughts on more of that bureaucracy and further steps. I am just frustrated with the attempts I have made to get an RNM and long term residence. Great tour! It would be nice to know a bit about prices though - specifics aren't necessary but general apartment prices in Florianopolis vs. where you last stayed? I might be moving to Rio and it would be interesting to know your opinion of what a similar apt (size, comfort level) would cost to rent there. Keep up the good work. There is definitely a shortage of expat content from Brazil.

Hi, Jason. I’m from Rio so I can help a bit, also there is a channel called “our brazilian life” and they have a video about rent prices in Rio for Americans. But I can tell you the traditional old money neighborhoods are in “south zone” in Rio, Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, Flamengo, Botafogo, and the rent there is really expensive, like a bad apartment can go up to 6.000,00 reais monthly, you need really to get lucky to find something cheaper. The newer beach neighborhoods are “Barra da Tijuca” and “Recreio dos Bandeirantes” in “west zone”, the price is a bit cheaper than south zone and the apartments are nicer, since it is the new money. “Freguesia” and “Tijuca” are also good neighborhoods and you can find good apartments for 2.500,00 reais, but there is no beach. Outside Rio city there are beautiful smaller towns in Rio state like those in blue coast, they are paradisiac and the rent price is way cheaper.

Hi Tucker. Thanks so much for the useful info. I’m currently looking for an apartment in Florianopolis & having a hard time finding a variety of affordable places. I’ve been using the QuintoAndar app but do you have any other way you can suggest to find a place? I’m working on getting my 1 year visa so looking for a place with less bureaucracy. Proof of funds is what I can provide so just looking for an easier way. I’m currently staying in Campeche. Can you recommend other areas that might be cheaper but still close to the beach? Thanks so much I’m advance

I use VivaReal and OLX. They have a lot more options and pretty much every rental that is available will be posted to olx, which is comparable to craigslist. I think Sao Joao Do Rio Vermelho is the most affordable beach side neighborhood (close to praia Mocambique) but after driving through their a few times I would say maybe not the best infrastructure, it just depends on what you are looking for. Down south in Acores and PAntano do Sul they have more affordable housing but it's also very far from most everything. I hope this was helpful.

Hey, Tucker. I have a question. My girlfriend is from Brazil, and we've been talking about us getting married and me moving there. My main concern is the loneliness of being a foreigner in Brazil. I don't know much Portuguese and our culture is pretty different, plus I'm quite comfortable with my life in my own country. The only reason I'm considering moving to Brazil is for her, because she can't leave the country due to some personal reasons. I'm very close to my family and the thought of not being able to see them often makes me sad. I do love my GF, but life is about so much more than a relationship for me, and I'm just wondering how the emotional and social adjustment is like for a foreigner living in Brazil. (Even though you have residency. I just want to know the perspective of someone who just recently moved there.)
@americaninbrasil
@americaninbrasil Жыл бұрын
That is one thing that I didn't really think too much about before moving and I have to say it is very weird to go from complete comfort in your own country to really only being able to communicate with one person. I am glad I made the decision I did because I didn't want to wait to try and bring my wife (then girlfriend) to the US. Plus, I was tired of Seattle and the people there. I would say if you are going to move here definitely work on your Portuguese because it's been almost 2 years and I am just now getting conversational. If you have anymore questions you can contact me through whatsapp +1 425-837-2912
