So nice to see an honest view on c-sections, I had 27 hour labour with my 1st that resulted in emergency c section and I was so unprepared with the recovery it was so painful I was never offered anything other than paracetamol!! 🤦🏼‍♀️ Women should he told a lot more and it should not be sugar coated!! 🤦🏼‍♀️ .. I was just left on my own with my daughter to get on with it! It was a really traumatic experience 🥺 I had a V bac 5 years later, 2 hour active labour completely different experience!! I felt amazing after having him, amazing recovery. I feel so sad when I look back and I used to compare myself to other women wondering why I wasn't up and about getting on with everything 1st time around, please ladies never compare yourself to anyone else and never doubt that you can't have a natural labour afterward, I pushed for a v bac and I'm so glad I did as 2nd time around everything went so smooth 😄 .. Just remember everyone is different and so is every birth. We are all amazing 👏🏻 xx

This made me cry, especially when you were talking about your first c section and the procedure, I had the same experience with 60hrs of labour prior emergency c section contractions started every 5-7 minutes and continued that way, couldn’t sleep, couldn’t eat and had no energy for the operation. Women are so amazing!

I had 2 c sections 2 years apart almost to the day. Mine were very similar they were planned due to the fact i had a pelvic injury from a car accident. I was ok with my recovery i was up the next day with my 2nd as i had a 2 year old to look after aswel was still in so much pain tho. I like looking at my scar in the mirror even tho i didnt have my babies naturally im still so proud what i went through and achieved to bring them into this world all mums and woman in general should be so proud of them selfs and there bodys you are all truly amazing ❤ ❤

Hey, I’m a PT and I just thought I would share some knowledge to all existing and future mums The “overhang” you describe after a c-section is in fact because your scar tissue has adhered itself to your abdominal muscles therefore doesn’t move freely therefore the loose skin above the scar does which develops the overhang. The one way to help with this is massage techniques over the scar. It’s never too late to massage your scar. I hope this helps someone 👍 xxx

My first delivery was traumatic. Ended in emergency section on top of sepsis. Just had 2nd baby 2 weeks ago by planned section and omg the experience was amazing this time! people think a c section is an easy way out but it deffo isn’t that first cough/sneeze/standing up afterwards is horrendous! Hats off to all the mamas however you give birth xx

I can relate to you so much! My girls were born 2 weeks after yours and I remember watching your videos to get an idea of what was to come. They were born at 33 weeks and in NICU for just under 3 weeks. I used to do the same top up on drugs and the struggle down to see them. It’s incredibly hard but so worth it now. I think the worst part was leaving the hospital without them but I knew they were in the right place ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I was at my sisters wedding they day after I left hospital, 2 days after I had my first daughter via emergency c-section last year. Was one of the hardest days of my life but I couldn’t miss it for the world 💕 The midwives were incredible and really supportive, doing everything they could to make sure I made it!

You are right we really do have the most wonderful midwives and medical staff in the UK. They blow my mind and I will never be so grateful for everyone who dealt with me during my labour. I’m due baby 2 in August and am excited to see what that story is going to be! I absolutely loved having my epidural after 4 intense latent phase days, they could have injected into my eyeballs I was in so much pain I wouldn’t have cared hahaha!

This is so helpful. Thank you for a proper honest account. I'm having my 3rd baby In a few weeks. I've got my 36 week appointment next week and a scan because my baby keeps going between breech and transverse so I'm thinking elective c section instead of trying to turn her because she'll probably flip back anyway and I do not want an emergency c section. I feel alot more confident asking for a section now though after watching your video. Thank you. Xx

My little girl was born via c section and I was so disappointed that I didn't have a natural birth with my first baby. For months I felt guilty and almost like a failure in a way, like my body had let me down. I managed to get over those feelings and I realised that it doesn't matter how you bring them into the world, its about the mother you are. When I came out of my c section (I was put to sleep for it) I was numb from the waist down and because I'm so anxious I was in a state of panic and frustration and the midwives and doctors were laughing at me and asking why I was behaving like I was. Before I went in for the procedure I was also in a bad state of panic because I really feared the unknown and all they did was say that I should be able to deal with it! Not supportive at all! I was already so exhausted. My partner had to stand up for me because I couldn't. It was heartbreaking not getting the dream birth I expected. I was put onto a ward with other c section mums and I ran out of water on the first night. My partner was at home getting me some things and I was literally shouting for water and pressing the buzzer they provide you with. It was so hot on the ward I couldn't breathe very well because of my asthma so that didn't help! A member of the public had to ask someone to get me some water. The midwives also kept leaving the curtains open around my bed and I couldn't get up to close them when I wanted to breastfeed. I dont know if this happens in every hospital but they wouldnt let me leave until I could prove I could breastfeed properly. I was too stressed out and anxious to do it in the hospital, especially with no privacy! The ward was full of loud and rowdy families so I didnt sleep for about 4 nights, a complete lack of respect to be honest! They then incorrectly diagnosed my baby with jaundice twice. We were finally ready to go home and a midwife came in and for the second time claimed my baby had jaundice so we were unable to go home until the next day. It was a crap experience, not as bad as others which I fully understand but that was just my experience. I recovered quickly though and was up and about as soon as I got home xx

My daughter is 4 weeks old and I had an emergency c section with her. the actual op was ok but the recovery like you I wasn’t prepared for the pain, I could lie flat on my back for a week I slept upright for a week and also getting up of the sofa was so painful! showering and just lifting my legs was so painful. But all in all it wasn’t that bad the actual labour itself was painful that when you get the c section your just happy for the pain to be numbed and your baby to be born ❤️

I was sick for hours and hours with my emergency c section too, my recovery was also good, I also spent a long time in hospital ( 5 days before and 5 days after) and I also struggled with the baby blues! Really relate to your first story! The different between epidural and spinal block is epidural can be topped up but spinal block only lasts for the duration of the surgery and some recovery etc and can’t be topped up x

Thanks for sharing, I’ve had one natural birth and one c section and just preparing to become pregnant again and will need a second C-section. Really anxious about opening up my scar and doing it again, my C-section baby had breathing difficulties after he was born which I thought was down to being prem and a C-section, listening to how your multiple ops went has really helped so thanks again!

I had two c-sections 5 years apart. The first I was induced then put to sleep as baby didn't have time for me to be given an epidural. Horrid experience, second was elective, such a lovely procedure. I choose a elective for the same reason as you lucy, I didn't want to go through the same experience as the first and miss the skin to skin ect. The best thing I found is the more you move about little and often actually helped my pain. I found the longer you sit still the worse the pain is in my opinion xx

I have also had 3 sections, 3 normal deliveries, the last one was a vbac. I never had an issue with pain as where I live, the epidural is left in for up to 48 hours after surgery (your choice), so that pain relief is automatically topped up that way. You can still get up and shower etc. I was home within 2 days after each one with really no need for any oral pain killers. I can't imagine your pain....agghh what we mother's go through!!

I had my first c section in March (second baby) I was absolutely terrified and cried the whole week before because I was so scared and anxious! Omg how wrong was I, was such a smooth and calming experience! The only problem I had was getting the spinal block in, took over an hour as I have a slight curved spine, took 6-7 attempts 😩You’re not wrong about the pain afterwards though omg! Chloe H yeah they said it shouldn’t be a problem before I went in but it took over an hour, 6 attempts and needles in my spine and had to do a scan and mark all my back up to find the right spot as where they usually put the needle mine was a lot more narrow so was hard to find. Sounds a lot worse than the actual experience of it but yeah 😂

I also had an emergancy c-section with my daughter due to failed induction. They tried all 3 methods over a course of 3 days and nothing worked!! I am lucky my daughters heart rate stayed perfect throughout the drip but it was getting too much for me and of course could not keep pumping me with drugs! Also agree the c-section itself is fine, the recovery is just horrendous, still recovering now 7 weeks later 😩 2 infections and still having the pains (not as bad though) 🤦‍♀️

Thanks for sharing your experiences, my third baby is booked in for my 1st c section on the 27th may due to having a low lying placenta. Very nervous 😥 and anxious.

I had a c section Sep 2020 due to baby being breech. I'm due my second baby in a few weeks. I've been told I am a good candidate for Vbac but I am scared I don't know whether to just schedule another section in. My recovery was horrific the first time.

I had an emergency section after failed induction for pre eclampsia, it was fine, honestly I was up walking the next day. ( a bit bent over and holding the scar😂) but it was a very low scar, healed really well, very minimal blood loss afterwards. Pain killers was just paracetamol, Tummy numb for about 2yrs after. I was home after 3 days and was doing most normal stuff within a week, obvs nothing heavy/driving. If I had had another baby I would have gone for a section without hesitation. Think I was really lucky in my recovery. Also I was on cloud nine after my E/section, and never crashed.

Were your babies put on your chest afterwards like how they would be in a natural birth? My son wasn’t after my c section and it upsets me a lot sometimes

I had an emergency c-section only 4 and a half months ago with my baby boy (first baby) and was very complicated as he got stuck in my pelvis so had to be pulled out feet first after doctors had to make a second incision (inside) up like a T 😔 I then ended up getting sepsis the next day...so that was fun 😕 Was in for 5 days after and baby was in NICU as he had a fractured skull 😔 He’s very well now though and thriving! 😊💙

I know! Never could I of imagined how different my birth was to how I actually wanted which was a water birth in the birthing centre 😂 Unfortunately due the nature of my section and it being so complicated, if I wanted anymore children (which we do) I would have to have a c-section as it could be dangerous if I was to go into labour/give birth naturally... That’s what I’ve been trying to get my head around as I had imagined giving birth my whole adult life and wanted to experience it 😔 Gotta do whats safe for me and baby in the end though I know 👍🏼

I had the same experience here I was forced to have a C section. In the USA or at least in Washington state USA healthcare is awful. I was 17 when I went through this it was an emergency c section and I have had two prior from this. The first one they put me under

I have had one emergency csetion and a booked in csetion for my second child which went perfectly . But Is it true that you can only have 3 c sections, as the doctors have told me I wouldn't beable to give birth naturally due to various reasons.. But nobody explained if I could have more baby's in a csetion if I was ever to have more than 3? Xxx

I think it's something about the scarred tissue, like it's too far gone after 3 sections..?

Spinal injection is given higher in the spine, neck, but is like any injection, epidural must get between verterbras into spinal cord what is quite risky. Spinal injection I had numbed me from breast area down to my legs and wore of nicely with no problems. I felt consulant getting into my womb as if someone is rumaging in female handbag😉but was faint feeling. Zapain is co-codamol and I needed it for only 4 weeks. There was no need to stay longer in the hospital. I was 2 days in ICU cs I lost lots of blood.
