I got mine about a month ago, almost 200,000 miles on it. Very practical and still, a very solid car, after 20 years. Mine could do with a respray, it spent the first half of its life in Manhattan.

Okay Ron, let me first of all thank you for all your efforts you put in sharing with us your experiences in such a detailed way. I was in the middle of buying an S6 C5 as a daily driver. But when I saw your threads in the forum, I made up my mind, so I’m test driving a ‘01 S6 next week. And if it’s ok, I’m getting it (having my 4-year and neverending S2 turbo project on my shoulders lol). Thank you man! Congrats to the new buyer on such a nice find)

General driving around I used to get about 11-12mpg, went up to 13-14 after the remap. On a long steady run it would do about 20mpg.

Hi! Since you had a DVD player with the RNS-E, I wonder if you could also fit a CarPlay adapter. Would that work?

it was a long time ago now so I can't quite remember, but i'm pretty sure there was a multimedia interface between the dvd player and the RNS-E, plugging into the old TV-Tuner socket. I don't know if anyone makes a carplay adapter or not, but in theory they could.

Great video! can I ask does the S6 C5 have as much maintenance costs as the RS6 C5? All I see online is how much goes wrong with the RS6 and I don't think I can afford that headache so looking at the S6. Thank you

Maintenance costs on a standard S6 are much much cheaper than the RS6. (I now own one 😉). The S6 has conventional discs, pads and calipers so just normal prices. It's the same gearbox as the rs6 but without the turbos and monster torque, they have no problems killing gearboxes. There is no DRC hydraullic suspension to go wrong. It is obviously more expensive than a normal every day car, but a million miles away from the 'RS tax' of the RS6.

I've been looking at an RS6 AVANT C5 for a while I just have no experience really for what's a good find and what's not I'm no mechanic I just like power so every car II look at is a huge gamble. So now looking at the S6 AVAnt C5 because of this video your content is amazing so please keep up the channel. Thank you for the information too. I recently sold my 64 plate S3 and need something again with punch that's a bit of a sleeper the original looks of these cars has me in a headlock!. Please show us your RS6 more! Thanks again.

Thanks for watching. It's a standard 2.5inch RS6 exhaust system. I had some 2.5inch de-cats made up too and they made the biggest difference to the sound. The videos dont do it justice, it sounded epic!

Wheels are Audi S5 9x20" et29. I just had to trim the bumper a tiny bit on the opening, not much though

I believe i recognize this one from the FB C5 group. Good cars, they really do reward you if you put in the work. I had a LPG system fitted to mine aswell, these engines run great on gas and cheaper to run than a 1.9 diesel. If im not mistaken you did the LPG install yourself? In my country the laws are not so lax, only a certified conversion can be registered and pass inspection. When the time is right i'll get a S6 or RS6. For now my A6 will have to do, but i feel a car like this isnt meant to have 165hp.

@@SuperRon no worries cheers for the reply whilst on the s6 subject had another question when going 70-80mph got an vibration from the front of the car done some research alot of guys are saying its the flanges that get abit worn that cause it any idea on that as theres not alot of info regarding that Ron

These are common for front inner cv joints wearing causing vibrations, I did replace both of mine because of this.

Yes I think it was about 200miles to 80-85 litres from memory doing 11-12mpg

@Sean Moore Thanks for watching. This is true, and I do now own a RS6! but I did love the S6, the mods I did made it individual to me and it was always recognised. Having a RS6 you've always got the little voice in your head not to break the ultra expensive gearbox and brakes, where as the S6 you could thrash it and have alot more fun 😁

It's a stock C5 RS6 exhaust, they are 2.5 inch stainless as factory. And the cats have been removed, that made the most noise difference! 😍

Yes all modern cars have an engine management light. Or do you mean does the LPG show a engine light fault?

I had to replace the steering rack on my S6 too. A nightmare of a job if right hand drive. Everyone says you have to drop the engine/gearbox to get the rack out, but with some wobbly sockets and patients I managed to do it with the engine in.

@@SuperRon its left hand ..and I noticed it shakes at 75km .then stops once past or goes below 73 I'm hoping stops after changing the rack .but I'm having issues finding a decent priced rack or rebuild kit ..or something compatible

My rack blew the seal inside the boot which is why I had to change mine. Much easier on LHD because of where the power steering lines attach away from the brake booster. I managed to get a reconditioned rack from my local motor parts store.

The remap made a huge difference higher up the rev range!

@@SuperRon That’s what seems to be the case for most of the 4.2 Audi motors. The gains from a exhaust and tune are not massive of paper. But that’s only half the story, where they really seem to perform much better is up in the top range. Generally the acceleration after 100khm is much faster. Love your Avant by the way. Still looks great, I live in the states and only about 1000 were imported over here. So if you have one over here, you’ve got a very rare and special car.

There's no reason not to drive LPG. Its cheap, its clean, it has the same characteristics as petrol. Only reason might be that Russia is biggest gas exporter, but thats it.
