Nice collection. I feel my gear has some gems in there and exotic, I have rare data backs for some of my SLRs, and a rare point and shoot Olympus, along with a couple of TLR’s. I’m about to get a Chinese TLR as I’m staying in China right now.

Cool to see you have a Mamiya 500 DTL. I have one and it was the first SLR I bought myself to get back into film photography. It was designed to compete with the spotmatic from Pentax. Unlike the Pentax the DTL has both a spot meter and a center weighted meter. Finding one with a working meter is a challenge but mine works and it is probably the most accurate light meter in any of my old cameras.

Visiting with Erik, a nice way to start the new year. It brings up a question I have been wanting to ask: how do you choose which camera to take out for a shoot? That might make a video topic in itself.
@ErikWahlstromPhoto6 жыл бұрын
+Mike Jankowski That's a good question. I'm not really sure why I take any given camera out. I guess it depends on look I'm going for and ease of use. It's worth looking at in the future, for sure.

Great video thanks for showing us a lovely collection. An old trick we you used to do for long exposure photography without "mirror up' function on cameras was to use an A4 size black card..... compose and focus the camera > place black card in front of lens > open shutter > remove black card for desired exposure time > place black card in front of lens > close shutter. Jobs a good 'un !

If I remember correctely you can make 120 spools into 620 spools by removing some material from the endplates of the spool. Clipping or sanding probably works best.

i enjoyed seeing some of your collection. We have some of the same cameras in our stables. I've got one of the Mamiya Sekor 500 TL's in my collection. When I was in high school I remember the Mamiya Sekor SLRs being sold at the old Grants Department store on Main Street in Buffalo, (before your time, ask one of your parents). Also thanks for showing some of the Buffalo photos. I still like to shoot that area when I visit. Marty

I have a Yashica Mat124 G as well, lovely camera t0use and produces nice sharp images with the Yashinon lenses. I have another Yashica TLR, the 635, a dual format camera,shoots 120 film 6x6 normally but it also comes with a kit that converts it to 35 mm film as well. though most like mine have the Yashikor lenses they still produce excellent images. the RB67 is just a gorgeous camera to use even though they're so big and bulky, love using mine.

I have 3 Minolta x-700 and duplicate lenses for them with a bar for a tripod that allow you to shoot exposures for lenticular 3-D printing making, which are 2 images in the same space on one printed piece with a plastic sheer with many lined lenses so that the light will be refracted in different angle for our left and right eyes. The Tripod bar is set just so one camera shoots the left eye and the other camera shoots the right eye. I have a question. Did you have to buy an adapter when you bought your Polaroid back to attach it to the Mamiya RB67? I have mine still and would like to try the Polaroid film by Fuji

Erik, thanks for the video. Have you ever tried the Mamiya 645 1000s?? i think thats the name? Or at least a 645 mamiya? I got into film for fun and try and learn and got a cheap Zenit 12xp. But into research got to see those dreamy medium format stuff but its expensive for me!! there s a 645 1000s that comes with a very fast prime with it... and quite affordable!!! That both bodies 6x7 and those images you take are a dream!!!

Yeah, i for sure, know that feeling! That's why i ended buying a zenit 12xp in those vintage markets! got the helios 58 and a pentacon 135 2.8! Great to play with but not feeling the flame as much because i know its 35mm and kind of 'normal' considering i shoot digitally 35mm so... Anyway! thanks for responding anyway! hope to see more medium format stuff too! BEst regards

Advice for the Polaroid back: * Look up videos for how to load it so that you can actually pull out the tabs and image sheets correctly. I have an RZ with a Polaroid back and ruined a pack of FP100C when I didn't load it properly. It's deceiving because the plastic packaging itself fits and you can close the back, but you have to have the little tab flipbook thing sticking out thru the cutout section for it on the edge of the back so that after you expose the sheet, you can pull it out successfully. * Before using it, look for any built-up gunk or residue on the inside of the back and once you pull the sheet out, don't let any of the developer chemical get on your skin. Hold the sheet upright during the development time. TBH, because of that, it's a pain in the ass to use walking around, because you have to hold the sheet facing up while it develops or have someone else hold it. Also, enjoy the back while you can. Fujifilm stopped making FP100C last year. What's on Amazon is all there is that's left. * Again, not sure if the RB Polaroid back is different than the RZ in this aspect, but unlike the film backs, the RZ Polaroid back *will* let you take out the dark slide under any circumstance (back not on camera, back on camera after an exposure but before you use the lever to relower the mirror and recock the shutter, etc.) * FP100C is the only peel-apart type of film you can get today. It's is very similar to Provia 100F for exposure latitude, saturation and contrast, so use your experiences with Provia 100F as a guide for metering and exposing FP100C. The resolution isn't anywhere near as good as regular color films (C41 or E6), in 2 different regards. 1) Not sure about the RB Polaroid back, but on the RZ back, it doesn't expose the full area of the image, so you'll have black borders around it. 2) the grain structure is kind of terrible compared to an actual slide film. A scan won't be nearly as detailed as the same scene taken on Provia 100F (that'd actually be a neat comparison to do in the video, take a photo with 1 back, swap it with the other and compare the results).

I'm sure I'll ruin a few sheets to start haha. Excited to try it out though.

You can probably fix the shutter on your Argoflex by unscrewing the lens groups (front and back) and then flushing the shutter with lighter fluid. Working the shutter while it's wet will tend to break loose the old dirt which is freezing it up. It's been years since I looked at mine, but I recall the shutter a a simple "everset" type, which is easy to jam up over time, but equally easy to fix. On the other hand, why bother if you have the 124G is actually use if you want a TLR.

Advice on polaroid...you probably already know this, but using a flash effectively is impossible, so don’t use one. Also you need to get a Polaroid back for your 67. Fun!!! It you might have to dedicate that 67 to polaroids and just buy a whole knew body! 👌cool channel!

12.00 - yes, it's true, battery for Polaroid cameras is included in the film package, also applies to Impossible/"new" Polaroid film packs for older cameras. The new Polaroid One Step 2 cameras don't need it anymore, you can buy slightly cheaper "i"-film for those.

Minolta 7000 was the very FIRST camera that sported autofocus with interchangeable lenses, back in 1985. And its design was futuristic to say the least. And today it looks dated, what an irony... Pentax 67 is amazing camera and I look to snag one, however it's not the only one in it's design; there's a east german Pentacon sixTL, but that camera shoots in 6x6 frames. Cheers...

Found your channel whilst searching for opinions on the RB67. I was wondering if you have any experience with using the K/L lenses on the system and what they're like when compared to the more standard Sekor C lenses? I can't seem to find any decent opinions online about them so
@williamkazak5 жыл бұрын
I had the Mamiya 500DTL and 1000DTL. I used the outstanding Pentax Tacumar screw mount lenses. When I finally left to go to Nikon and bayonet lenses it was partially because Pentax went to bayonet after telling their customers they were never leaving the screw mount! I had an issue of Pentax magazine that said that. I was through with all things Pentax ever since. Rest assured, it is the lenses that affect the pictures the most and Nikon has it's share of undesirables. Make your own tests.
