Couldn’t you just use the Kupo to tripod plate adapter (minus the tightening knob) directly into the junior receiver? That would remove the need for the junior pin to baby pin adapter and create less potential wobble points. Just sayin’/asking.

That iFootage quick release system is super slick! Is that what you use to mount your mics on the wall too? I’ve been using the similarly “pro” priced, but bulkier Triad Orbit quick release adapters, which don’t include the nifty locator pins. I also found a couple of the Manfrotto pistol grip rolling stands on Facebook marketplace for unbelievably cheap. I remove the top piece to get the same “low boy” height, and I can slide multiple pistol grips to hold various elements of my setups, including lights and a laptop tray when I want. I need to do a video of my latest setup…

Hey Tom, thanks again for this video! I've watched it again, and convinced me to build something similar. Although it costed a lot, but I'm excited for the orders to arrive and finally put everything together. One thing that I'm not sure if you're considered, especially because you use Elgato teleprompter, is to have a support for the lens. My lens (Tamron 28-75mm f2.8) is longer and I got the SMALLRIG 15mm Long Lens Support Bracket. I've also got the Manfrotto 502 Fluid instead of the one you use mainly because of the price. But to be honest, 502 seems sturdy enough. Anyway, thanks again 🙏

It's a good setup for you clearly. Two things if you ever notice and noise on the XLR it that cheap 90 you have best to get a cable with that build in. 2nd I see if I can find it but I seen a rosette to Arri pin adapter that would allow you to connect your Spider Crab into a Arri pin so it's completely stable! I love seeing people setup you always learn something new and useful! -- Oh and I starting a iFootage support group I'm up to 11 Sprider Crabs they are so good...

Great video, Tom! I am really digging the Lowboy. I currently use a short stand that sits on my desk, but that also really limits which lens I can use in my GH5 because of the relatively short distance. I am going to have to check that out. I am guessing from your comments in the video that the higher stand would be capable of being set up the same way if I was looking to use that for fixed secondary cameras on a shoot (and reducing the footprint from all of those tripod legs. Is that correct? Thanks for continuing to educate us!

Thanks for sharing, Tom! Do you have any sound treatment in your room? Would love to see more about that.
@tombuck
@tombuck 2 ай бұрын
I don't have much to be honest. Most of it is the carpet and objects in the room, but I've experimented with a lot of different things and what I've kind of landed on for the past few years has been: •Sound blanket covering window. It's behind the paper backdrop. I never use the window, so I covered it with a sound blanket to block out sound and light and then hung the backdrop in front of it. •I have a 2' x 4' sound panel from Acoustimac.com on the wall that I face (it's actually on a closet door so I can slide it around a bit). •I have another Acoustimac panel on the ceiling directly above me. I noticed sound was bouncing from the wall and reflecting off the ceiling, so these two panels helped a lot.

@tombuck
@tombuck 2 ай бұрын
I think that's a tricky one. I definitely get it- but at least for now, having the whole thing run via one simple cable is fantastic. I don't think a tablet could power the prompter, so they would then need a separate power supply, which in my experience is always annoying. Although...now that I think about it, having a second USB C port just for optional power could be neat. It's there if you want it, but not required.

How have you gotten the Elgato Prompter's ring mount to work with your lens? According to the Elgato manual, the ring mount isn't compatible with motorized lenses. When I try it with my Canon EOS R (and Canon lenses), I immediately get a lens error as soon as the lens tries to move with the prompter hanging off of it. I've tried with several Canon lenses. It seems you're not having this problem, though. Any ideas?
@tombuck

It depends on the lens- if the ens has internal focusing it's no problem, but if the end of the lens rotates when it focuses, then it's an issue. Fortunately my Sony lens is all internal.

@@tombuck Thank you! I take it you don't have to turn off autofocus, then. Do you know if it's generally the case that Canon lenses rotate while focusing? I'm not sure how to identify which lenses do that without trying them in person (and I only have 4).

Anyone have a suggestion to a reasonable alternative to the camera head that would offer the same versatile ability with the i footage arms and such? Great info, beefy setup that would last for sure

you can probably do something similar with the Manfrotto 502AH. It doesn't have the locking pin mount, but does have a 3/8" mount on each side.

The Manfrotto 501 is pretty great- but I wouldn’t go much lighter than that if you’re planning to attach anything besides a camera to it.

But how do you connect the prompter on this moving rode to your mac? I purchased the prompter as well, my problem - I am to close on my desk to the prompter and everybody can see my eyes moving, which is bad :/ So I stopped using it for now :/

I watched your video about MKH 50. Now I got one finally. The problem is Rode Caster Pro (1) can not give it enough power to have the sound comes out even I had the volume up to the top. Can you give me some advices on this? I've been using it with Rode NTG5 and never have any issues like this.
@tombuck

Be sure you have phantom power turned on- the 50 is a condenser so it doesn’t require much gain (maybe 25-30dB).

@@tombuck One more thing if I could ask Tom. I also use FX3 for main camera. But I did not do KZbin I only use it for Zoom meeting. I been having a problem of how to get the picture and the sound synced. It is a delay with my mount and the sound when see in Zoom but it looks totally ok on Camera or on the switcher’s screen. But people watching from computers see the delay. I think it might be about the setting on camera like the frame rate or something. Yet I still can not fix it. Could you kindly give me some advices how to fix this! Thank you so much!

Well, There's something I want to share about. I made a low cast camcorder rig that I ever made, It's really simple. I have a mini wireless mic set (Comica Boom X-D2 here in this case) and I have an idea that I'm going to put it on an elastic band on the battery. (An InfoLitihum V battery) How I did it? Well, It's simple. I put an elastic band on a camcorder battery and clipped a wireless receiver onto the elastic band and that's it, I can control an audio gain from there and I even got 2 audio monitor jacks. (From both my camcorder for more accurate playback and a wireless receiver's monitor audio jack for a real time audio playback. 😁) The mics are, Well. I could either choose one for a lav mic or a boom mic. (It depends on a setup, I can't really tell) There's a video on my KZbin Channel that I’ve covered about so you can go check that out if you want. =)

DId you work without a teleprompter before getting the Elgato?
@tombuck
@tombuck 2 ай бұрын
Yep. I mainly use bullet points for my videos, so I just had the Notes app open on a monitor next to the camera, but the Prompter makes it much easier to keep my place, which speeds up the whole process. It's also absolutely incredible for video calls!
