I always zoom in too to check sharpness and focus but never realized how annoying that is until you pointed it out. 😂 Thanks for this Mitch!!

Saw something interesting on DPReview forums: they locked their fn-bar with the lock button and only used it to setup settings that don't affect the picture: left/right/swipe -> level/histogram/magnification. That actually sounds pretty useful to me and can be modified with peaking or similar things. Maybe that will help others interested in this camera and it's an option that most reviewers glance over when disabling it outright.

Love your settings will definitely be using a few. Also not sure if you knew but the trash can button also resets the focus box . Just in case you wanted another button to free up for something else

With the EOS R6 and R5 coming out, the prices of the R may go down significantly, i'm picking up another R over the r6 or r5 because my main focus is photos not video. i shoot video for fun and the 1080P is enough for me. The R files are so lovely. The one memory card slot doesnt bother me, luckily for me i've never had a card fail on me, but i also carry spare cards just in case.

I have had mine for a year, too. I thought I was the only one that HATED it, I only used it a few times. Since, my 5D needs to go in to the shop, I am going to give it another try. When the 5D is in the shop my choice is this or the 7D. I figure the R cannot be as bad as the 7D.

hi...great video...I Use Touchbar for White balance - K / M-F bar safety lock - Disable / Full Cover setting ON & Add it to Multi - Fn lock. lock it after setting proper kelvin to avoid accidental touchs.

I’m assuming you mean for video? The crop mode? In that case no you can’t you need to enter the menu to do it. It’s also only available in 24/25/30p I believe.

The image quality is better than its own R ; The settings are easier in relation to the R; The overheating is also present in R6 ? They will fix it with a firmware ? Its time to go in R6 or wait any firmware or a new R MII ?

Thank you, done features are useful, like switching off the rest of the AF modes. I always though that I some day will need them, but no chance to check the truth))) What I also setup, DoF preview set to Record button. In photo mode. It does not influence the record function in video mode, do I found this useful as I often use my EF 85 1.2 lense

At first I was disappointed that you can't set the shutter button to start movie recording on the Customize buttons option (Custom Functions page 4). The shutter button is more intuitive than the movie button in my opinion. However, if you select a movie shooting mode, you can go to Set Up page 4, and there is an option to set functions for a shutter half-press and full-press, including starting movie recording. Why this isn't in the customize buttons screen is beyond me, but I'm glad it's there; the shutter is easier to use than the movie record button, which is on top of the camera.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. I've had my R since December, and I've tried several different functions, none of which I really liked. Currently I have it assigned to change AF methods. Will see how that works. Mitch's idea of using the focus point button is a great one; I may have to try that.

There's a huge shortage as a lot of people are upgrading to mirrorless - we have the same issue here in Australia. There are a few other brands who have created EF to RF mounts though!
