Doubt it, $910/m for 73 months at 16% interest was borrowing 42,300 which isn't exactly an expensive pickup. The "luxury" pickup trucks like the one I own are easy 50K+ base. The 16% APR is killer. I have credit cards with half that interest rate.

Ja M the second he borrowed 42k is the second it was too much truck. Yes, he makes good money but that is a lot of truck.

He's stupid for doing it, but again not even close to a fully loaded truck. Not even much truck at that for that price. A base Ram 1500 express(ONE step above a tradesman) with a quad cab(5 seats, but smaller back doors/leg room), a v6 and 4WD will run you $36K. He financed a few thousand of negative equity he said + I'm sure taxes/fees and I could easily see it being 42K. That, 16% interest and a base truck is likely why he's in the situation he's in. He was doomed to be underwater from day one, unfortunately, he has to pay for it.

I saw a 22 year old guy come in with his family to trade in a 2014 ford diesel with 60k that he owed 50k on , probably only have gave him low 40/s for on a trade in and then wanted to buy a lifted 2017 for 69k lol it’s insanity . I guarantee his mom was co-signing while her son lives at home laying 1200 on a truck a month

depends on the truck.. a ram 3500 worth 60k is around a grand. but inly worth 29, that this is just a 1500 series..

I hope he got a loaded 3500 quad cab dually, because 910x73 is $66430. Not sure how much depreciation hits these after two years, but if he's paying that much for a 1500......... dang. And yeah, interest, but dang.

I use to have a $850 car payment, with $150 in insurance per month. Basically a G a month. Now I drive a $1,000 CAR (1998 Camry with 315,000 miles)

95 plymouth. superb mechanical condition. repainted - rust-free. reliable. mint inside, comfy. everyone looks funny at me and remarks like "jalopy", "hooptie"... i laugh, they laugh. i laugh even harder when their one yr old gm suv 4x4 yada yada yada is in shop for fourth time in one year. They don't laugh along with me for some reason...

Matthew Dionne 910$/months does buy you a corvette. a base stingray is 55k, Edmunds has average paid at 51 500$. 60 months at 2% interest would be 902$/month.

Don't be discouraged. Buy a second hand car with low mileage (they exist!) and pay cash. There are a lot of people with a lot of disposable income who buy a new car every 5 years. Just buy their 5 year-old car when they trade it in.

Oh I didn't buy it, just messing around on different manufacturer's sites seeing how much I could max one out for. I use "can't" in the sense I'm cheap. I'm still using a 96 chevy 2500 for my occasional truck requirements. Power windows and locks, cd player, and heater that works. Good enough for me.

Since his house payment is only 1300 a month and car payment is 1000 thats 2300 total. He probaly takes home 6500 a month. So the other $4200 a month he spends is his bigger problem.

You make 125k a year. Full coverage insurance and gap. I grew up in the hood. I could solve this. Not the best choice but it could get solved. Pay someone to hit and run your car, total it out. Start over. And you didn’t see the persons license plate 😂🤣

Have you seen what new vehicles cost? It's insane. Trucks and SUV are really very expressive a bit more than cars. I've seen loaded Ford f250 on lots for nearly $100k . It's mind blowing someone can spend that much

Most people dont like the idea of oweing someone money every month. it sounds like slavery. But people get confused into debt, because of tribal thinking. If everyone else is doing it it must be okay. If you dont think like that about cigrettes or obesity, then why do you do it with money?

I have a co-worker who's wife makes him get a new car once it reachs 50k miles. She says her kids "deserve to be safe" lol. Just using your kids as pawns, nothing more lady. Typical suburban Atlanta woman mindset. Wish her husband had the intellectual honesty to see through that. Guess who will be picking up a 3 year old Pilot in perfect shape and most of the maintance done on it at a good price? :) Set for the next 10 years, no car payments. :)

Safety concerns aside, some individuals are the biggest propagators of the North American throw way mentality. "It's a little used, but a new one is always better." I'm sick and tired of people who accumulate personal debt and then they'll blame everyone else for the situation they're in!

I was in that boat a while back. I had one of those new corvettes in 2015 and someone hit me when I was turning left (there fault thankfully(remember when you get your dream car, it can be hit, lol)). That was great because the insurance money allowed me to pay the difference and I sold it to car max. Just tonight I fully paid off my best buy credit card and cut it up. No car debt, but about 88k debt total (everything). No student loans cause of GI Bill. Got my truck off of craigs list for 500 dollars.

Sadly that happens all the time. Finance managers roll $3k extended warranties and $800 GAP insurance into the loan to put the buyer even further into a hole.

I listened to an audiobook by brian tracy. He mentioned that wealthy people don't buy brand new vehicles. They buy a used vehicle that's still under warranty. Since someone else already depreciated the value of the car.

Chrysler Capital finances for Chrysler, dodge, ram, jeep and they give the worse rates of the big three. I shopped Ram, GMC, and Ford when looking for a truck. They did not try to get over on me as bad as this guy but Capital was the worst by far. Capital offered me 5.9%, while GMAC offered me 1.9% and Ford Motor Credit gave me 0% financing.

16% is considered subprime in the US ? Im from the UK and I work at a car finance broker and what people payback on cars is insane. I spoke to someone who was paying £47k back on a £23k car lol

I've noticed so many suburbanites with spotless oversized pickup trucks that likely have never been used for actual work or hauling. Don't go into debt for a working class aesthetic when you make an upper class income and make poverty-class financial decisions lol.

I have 2 friends. One bought a brand new Ford Explorer. He makes about 150k a year. He is currently paying 850 a month for a car. My other friend is a university head IT guy. Idk how much he makes but I assume 80-100k. He pays 1309 for his new dodge 1500 fully loaded and pays a 600 dollar a month Ducati. I have idiot friends

Those salaries warrant the expenses. They definitely aren’t idiots that make $10k a month meaning $900 is less than 10% take home. You just have richer friends than you.

Bought a car for 10k my payments were 218. I paid 1000$ a month and paid it off in a year. Its not about the loan its about how you do the deal.

With that interest rate, he must've bought his truck with a credit card. Plus, he's probably not making $120k/yr, he just says that to make himself feel good during the call and not a full on loser.

It's an expensive life lesson he hopes he'll never make again. Buy 3-4 year old cars with cash, keep for 2-3 years to limit depreciation (know what you'll sell for before you buy) or drive them till they're dead.

I saw a 22 year old guy come in with his family to trade in a 2014 ford diesel with 60k that he owed 50k on , probably only have gave him low 40s or high 30s for on a trade in and then wanted to buy a lifted 2017 for 69k lol plus negative equity plus TTL it’s insanity . I guarantee his mom was co-signing while her son lives at home paying 1200 on a truck a month

Why not get a Ford Ranger? Its still a truck so you can haul stuff with it. But its small enough that you don't need a garage and you can just park it in an American woman.

Paid my 2014 Honda Accord off in 2 years...more money in m wallet now, thank goodness!!! Gonna drive that sucker until when I retire (in about 10 years). Even after retiring, gonna continue to drive it “until the wheels fall off” 😜👍😂 !!!

So maybe I’m missing something? He makes 120 k after taxes. So 10k a month. If he spent 1300 on mortage and 900 on his truck. 2200-10000 gives him money to pay insurance, debt, savings, etc. why is this a problem?

Hello guys im so glad i found this guy ! Made me open my mind! If anyone can help me on making this decision on my car of it Dave himself can help me out!! I make 3K every month and i made a stupid decison on buying this car that isnt worth the price. So i have this car that i owe 20.000 dollars and i pay 375 on car payments and 250 a month. I dont want it no more i had for at least 8 months. What should i do ? I know imma loose thousands of dollars but the cat isnt worth it. Shoould i sell it? Should i get it repoed? Should i refinance it? Its too much money for something i dont like. Can anyone plz reply or personally messege me im on a decison that keeps me awake because i dont know what to do. Better to take action right now them later

I sold everything i own, bought a used truck and a used 5th wheel, moved my family into it. I pay 300.00 a month for my truck, and 135.00 a month for the 5th wheel. I work and my wife works, we make about 4,000.00 bucks a month combined. No matter what i do, i can not seem to save. I literally go to work and go home. We dont eat out, or do anything extra. Im ready to blow my brains out. Im in a hole ill never get out of. Im sick of the hamster wheel.

Grateful to have learned my lesson with car payments on a brand new honda accord. This makes my $450 payment I had look like nothing. I paid off the car, still drive it, and will drive it until the wheels fall off.

And after 5 years, the wheel wells are rusting out and the infotainment systems are garbage. American made garbage. Buy Asian vehicles and pay cash. Drive them for 400k miles and do the maintenance yourself. Adopting this has got me out of debt and saving like crazy.

At first I didn't believe the numbers but it turns out a 73 month loan that runs about 910 a month with a 16% interest rate will get you a $43,000 truck. It will cost you around $66,000 in payments. Ouch. I wonder if he was upside down in his trade in. Ollie's advice. Don't buy new. Pay cash. $30 a day in car payments....

I know a number of guys mostly younger from work who have truck payments around 1k a month. NO car or truck is worth 1K a month. That is a house payment. total insanity.

Today, in most cases even if you make 30 K a year, you could get a loan for a car worth 60K , if your credit score is good.
