I guess that's a reason why they added the option to use prestige to take over any unit anywhere on the map. Though you may not have that prestige in the first place if you're just sitting in camp. Better save up a transfer fund to keep for such emergencies.
@slingshot7792
@slingshot7792 Жыл бұрын
@@anderskorsback4104 The game gives you A LOT of prestige right away. Know this by starting a 21 year old confederate officer not even from West Point and I have enough prestige to influence not one but several advances and I did my first one last night when I realized this. Then I used some to fill the staff roles, still have an abundant left over to influence advances. Pretty sure it’s a realism effect since a vast majority of the early war was nothing but light skirmishes and encamped but they give you this optional choice if you get bored. I had it at x50 for a month before I finally did it. I wonder how different it will be in 62-65 when the AI is done recruiting and policies researched are in full swing. Edit: I’m a Lt. Col in command of a very small 7th Virginia Calvary next to jeb as the only other cavalry commander. So it’s not like I have a prestigious rank/role, unit doesn’t even have 300 men.

This Career mode really helps you understand the mindset of the early Union command staff not having a damned clue how to fight a battle. "Alright, I want the division to take that ground, but don't actually move in to hold it. Just sort of dither around while one or two units do all the fighting."

Love how you did it wearing the uniform. I bought the DLC yesterday and am also in the early stages of playing and learning. My trouble is I can't keep track of my Brigade and other units in it during battle. Wish they would make it easier to keep track of other units in your brigade. In my career game for whatever reason B.G. McDowell's first maneuver was to march the entire Army of Northeastern Virginia down almost to Lynchburg. So I decided to play Battle of New Orleans by Johnny Horton because I was convinced we were headed straight for New Orleans so it seemed fitting of the situation to march to such a tune.

So I bought this as well, got to command the 69th NY under Col. Sherman. Entire army moved and we did a battle at Harper's Ferry. 35+ thousand, against around 11k....the AI was sooo bad. My regiment broke just on the march to the combat area, then broke not because they were under fire, but because all the guys around them broke, despite having cover, and inflicting casualties lol. The AI is so bad, but I love the concept, and hope it REALLY gets better with patches. =) (Btw, you were the defining factor in me buying the dlc.)
@Kalalification
@Kalalification Жыл бұрын
You may have taken more casualties but you were also fighting against much larger and better supported units, so I think you did well considering. Your major concern at the moment is on earning prestige to get that promotion, and take control over a bigger part of the battle. Once you do that I think you'll be well situated to start favoring your units with better gear and command staff.

Talking of interesting things. In my second play through, I had Irwin McDowell challenge my character to a duel (note he was only a regimental character) after the first battle for rumours of “cowardness” but mostly his radical abolitionist ideas… he was killed in said duel. So yeah, my character was challenged to an illegal duel by the commander of the Union army and was also killed by my character… it was an interesting start to the campaign.

When your unit routes, you should be able to halt the withdrawal by forming square. I know it works in the main campaign. I let them drop back into cover, and hopefully close enough to a CO's HQ, hit the square and let them rest awhile. I'll have to see how it works in this game format.

I absolutely love the uniform. I’d love to do something like Civil War reenacting if I ever got the chance. I’d be one of those Virginians who stayed loyal to the Union. I would have said “rare Virginians” (and please Chris correct me if I’m wrong) but I read somewhere that around 40% of officers from Virginia stayed loyal to the Union. Not exactly rare as one might think.

If anyone’s monitoring these comments, I have a question. I just bought the game along with the Whiskey & Lemons expansion. Can I just start a new career in my very first play-through? I’m sure it’s allowable, I just mean would it be better to play a vanilla campaign start to get a feel for the game and then go back to the expansion and start a career? I like the idea that in a career mode I wouldn’t have to command the entire battlefield right from the beginning.
