Interlocking fields of fire, defense in depth, bite and hold. Late war strategies do actually work

Thats what I thought, bastion system for interlocking trenches, forward trenches for sucking up enemy artilery and machineguns in second line duty. Plus it seems trench is suppressed even if it is not being hit, which means spacing trenches a little bit so they are not being suppressed two for price of one.
@quentindeslauriers3512 Жыл бұрын
Some tips on combat if you’re looking for them. Place your trenches a little further apart, about the length of one trench apart, as it makes their artillery less effective at suppressing so many units. Overlap your firing lines by rotating trenches and connecting them with each other or at least by comm trenches. When there are two units in a trench only one can fire from the firing line, two units in a trench is best to repel assaults.
@flyingpugs3678 Жыл бұрын
I have a side note for communication trenches. I would advise not connecting your first row to trenches to your latter ones, as this prevents you enemy from moving through your trenches and avoiding gunfire.
@quentindeslauriers3512 Жыл бұрын
@@flyingpugs3678 great point! So you’re saying put a single row of trenches in front and then behind that, without connections, place you’re overlapping trench works?
@crplsteve Жыл бұрын
@@quentindeslauriers3512 If you want to connect your trenches to allow reserves to move up under fire, you can have 1 or 2 com trenches connecting to a blocking trench that has 2 units in it, units both friendly and enemy cannot pass through double stacked trenches. This means 2 units will move to engage in melee, while the rest have to wait or go over the top.
@reecedignan8365 Жыл бұрын
@@quentindeslauriers3512 Best way to make the trench lines is. 1. a forward line which you can place conscripts into - or if allies, 1 company of boosted shooters, 1 company of boosted melee fighters to sit in reserve to repel trench ins. 2. Build your 2nd line back a bit so that it can help by having machine guns attached to it, but if your 1st trenches are overun allows you to fill them in proper and take many enemies out as they are forced to go over the top again against them. 3. Put barbed wire in multiple lines out the front trench line and especially multiple razor wire if you get it, as it helps to slow them down just enough that kills become much easier for the 1st trench line. 4. Don’t use communication trenches between 2nd and 1st line positions. If the guys in the 1st get over in you just let em fight it out as you replace them in the 2nd line. Communication trenches should only be used for connecting third line trenches or command trenches or bunker trenches to your reserve 2nd line.

If I have a complaint, it’s that the artillery plays like more modern artillery. There is perfect communication between the troop movement and using the arty to strike the enemy emplacements if that makes any sense.
@warallied Жыл бұрын
2 tips: when pointing for reinforcement - look at the line its coming from - thats why your troops took too long to come. In case of overwhelming odds - centralize your position at your most defensible point (if you feel lucky) This would make it very hard for the AI to breach it with many trench layers. It potentially could give you a much worse defeat but also a win from the jaws of defeat. Then, when you order your troops to move or to reinforce - they will NOT attack an enemy they encounter, its important to individually click em and press the unit you want them to attack but only if they are in movement.

Currently playing through the historical battles, trying to get the gold medal in all of them. Dear God, taking the first control point and holding it in Verdun was a nailbiter. Ran out of supplies, was about to be overwhelmed, but got to run down the clock. And I'll have to repeat the battle, because I only got silver... "Ich muss zurück zur 'Hölle von Verdun'..."

Yeah emplacements aren’t really worth it in the current version just because artillery kills them before they pay out what supply they cost. And also don’t put double infantry in a trench unless a melee is currently ongoing. This allows troops to navigate in the trench to avoid artillery instead of going out into the open.

Tips ive gathered looking at people play this, 1- units cost you 50% cheaper if deployed before battle starts 2- MG nest are an artillery magnet, best put em ''alone'' behind your main trenchs to make ennemy artillery less effective 3- That lil arrow button in your trenches when theres 2 of your units in em is for selecting wich one of them is on the firing line( best use the strongest, more guns are firing) while the other one is sitting in the trench doing nothing ( only of of em can fire from the trenchs) 4- when moving your units on the battle map, if your not clicking on an ennemy units icon, your unit are simply walking/running there blindly getting cut down.
@BiNumLi Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same about MG's. Artillery to suppress. MG's to deal damage. Time the arty so they suppress close to front lines in range of MG's and troops in Trench. Same logic with barbed wire. In front and close to Trench. BW / Trench / MG / Trench / MG / Artillery. BW is his big advantage. Cheap. Cheap.

Nice gameplay I love historical strategies...@the author and the audience: What is the best way in your opinion to win this game on Veteran level as the Germans? I hoped in my first campaign to win via defensive posture as the race to Calais overstretched the German supply lines, between 1915 and 1917 I focused on supplies and reinforcements It's September 1917 I have 22K Gold and 3K supplies, I haven't lost a single region all Allied attacks failed...my national will is 888 and the Allied is 457...but this campaign ends in 1919 so I don't think I can bring it to 0 and win it defensively...or reach Paris...will I still win it having more NW points at the end of the campaign? What did you guys do to win it? What would you advise? More offense with infantry? I wanted to have tanks and gas before attacking...the time constraint pisses me off...and I noticed that the mechanic upgrade doesn't repair the tanks when they aren't in combat...Does the "Ride Along Service" work for you?

I've heard some sketchy stuff about the AI cheating super hard in the game and it has kept me from buying it (e.g. super accurate artillery strikes on things they shouldn't be able to see, tons of reinforcements, etc).
@mothersmilkltd4329 Жыл бұрын
From what I've seen, people who post videos on youtube complain about it, they're people who don't even know how to create defense in depth and don't control half the mechanics of the game. The AI has advantages like in almost all strategy games, but the AI also builds supply depots, observation balloons and develops technologies.
@HerrKaizer Жыл бұрын
The reason the ai has super accurate artillery strikes is because it can see where your companies are as in the video you can see that the ai has an observation balloon

And it has tons of reinforcements because it has over 10 companies going into the battle and priorities supply. Honestly I have enjoyed the game it is hard but very enjoyable so i recommend buying it
