You are so multi-gifted that I dare say your multi-faceted career has NOT completely “evaporated.” I do not want to minimize or belittle the trauma that this painful season is to the gigging portion of your being & consciousness (& finances!), but I MUST encourage you to seriously diversify your understanding of your talents & your identity: Unlike some/many of your gigging friends & colleagues, YOU are NOT only a gigging musician; YOU are also a GIFTED teacher, and a charismatic life-lover. Lately it seems (since the videos that made me appreciate you are not recent) you have been neglecting your instruction-oriented KZbin channel in favor of focusing on other dimensions of your musical productivity & relationality. But, as you mentioned in this video, I hope & pray that in this challenging season you will learn to consider & embrace your TEACHING self as just as significant as your “playing/gigging” self. I’m an older adult who picked up a viola for the first time in December 2019, after loving the sound of them for years. YOU, by your accessible demeanor and enjoyable, digestible teaching style, made me believe I could have a serious, productive, pleasurable relationship with the viola. I have been saddened, therefore, that making instructional videos seems to be something you seemed to have relegated to your past. YOU. ARE A. TEACHER. So I hope this pandemic gives you the opportunity, means, encouragement and inspiration to include teaching as a more prominent, balanced, and permanent part of your identity and output overall. You celebrate and provide links to all your wonderful friends & colleagues who are doing great things; you are no less amazing, and as this pandemic forces us all to go online to connect with one another, it is a GREAT opportunity for you to more expansively inhabit the gift you have for helping others develop the skills necessary to make a viola sing songs in its best voice. ThatViolaKid i appreciate the encouragement, thank you! The deeper tone, wow. I can feel it In my soul. The violin just doesn’t speak to me the same! I’m in my 50’s and new to instruments. I have felt embarrassed to tell anyone, for fear of being seen as a Failure, or that I’m fickle. I just don’t feel connected to the violin, so hard to explain. Thanks For the nudge! 😁😁

Its weird how viola is considered the “less cool instrument” but it provides one of the most beautiful sounds in the orchestra family.

As a current music major (and a freshman music major at that), this is really messing with my life as a music student. I can practice my double bass, but it's extremely difficult to do so. It's a good thing I've been able to write music during this time (I'm currently working on a concerto, as well as the outline for an opera, and I'm also (supposed to be) working on a symphony). I just hope this passes soon enough for me to be in school next school year!

Many times, I feel that those who aren't musicians, and those who aren't involved in the fine arts are not understanding of our issues and our problems, or forget about our issues in certain situations, so it's good to have a musician's perspective on what these sorts of things mean for us!

I'm commenting on this vid more than a year later, because my plans to major in music changed. I knew from the time I was about 6 that I wanted to be a music performance major. At the last minute, I changed my mind and decided to take a year off. I'm not even sure which way to go now, but I'm only 17, so I have a little time to figure it out.

Being a musician in a country that is doing ok and have to stop for covid is hard, but being a musician in a country that has been on a revolution for the past five months (Chile) and having to stop for this covid 19 shit is hell.

Any number of reasons, but I think the most salient comes from potential economic destabilization that results in more crime, thus needing to arm yourself for protection. There also maybe doomsday prep'ers who are preparing from the collapse of our government. There could be any number of reasons--they all come from fear. Fear is our true enemy here, not other people. We have to resist the impulse to panic, and instead, focus on actionable things we can do to protect the fabric of our society. Hence, social distancing =)
