My cat has vestibular disease

Morpheous, my cat was diagnosed with vestibular disease last week 6/14/24, so it's been very difficult seeing him like this. He started off by walking with a limp, then he started to walk with a clumsy walk, then he started walking far less, and now he's at the point that he rather not walk, because walking seems very stressful for him. He takes a step and then loses his balance, and occasionally, he hits his head with furniture. So my wife took him to the vet last week, and they diagnosed him with vestibular disease due to a fungus in his ear. The vet prescribed Otomax ear drops for the infection and Dexamethasone for inflammation. So far, it's been a week and a few days using his medications, but he doesn't seem to be getting better as of yet. The vet said it might take 2 or 3 weeks to take effect, and they said, "If it does work." I will give it due time to take effect, if not I'll have to take to a specialist, but right now I'll just concern myself with the time the vet gave for the meds to do it's job.
So I have a question: Have your cat ever been diagnosed with vestibular disease, and if so, did they prescribe these same medications, and how long did it take to take effect? Please drop a comment, and If you would like to help, your donations are welcomed. 🐱

Sadly we had to let Morpheous go today. 8/22/2024 10:30 am I did all I could to help him recover, but last night, he stared into my eyes, letting me know that he was ready 😢 when I brought him in, the vet notified me that he appeared to have kidney failure along with the surprise that he may have suffered a stroke, that along with his hyperthyroidism that we knew about, he lost all his weight and muscle mass. Morpheous was with us for 17+ years, and we gave him all we could to keep him happy and content. I will miss you buddy 😢🙏 miss you already

So sorry sir. I hope he makes a speedy recovery. My cat will be 19 this year. She did have similar symptoms to this a couple years ago. The vet gave me ear drops and antibiotics, but never diagnosed her with anything. It did clear up in about 2 weeks after I started those and she hasn’t had those symptoms since. I hope Morpheus has the same result. I got a soft spot for animals, and it sucks when they aren’t well.

I am basically at this moment having a really hard time coping because he's not interested in eating or drinking this evening, this morning he was all about tuna and I added water to it so he can have something to drink,he was loving it, so I get home from work thinking he'd be interested in food and water tonight and NAW.. he's not not at all 😣 but man that's great news of your cat. same, they gave him ear drops and some meds for inflammation, I just purchased some natural antibiotics from Amazon for cats, gets here Wednesday.. I'm hoping this helps the healing, hey continued good health to your kitty 🙏😎 this is honestly the best news to hear at this moment 🙏

I am so sorry Eric. I grew up with cats and I know how difficult it is to see them sick. TBH I didn't want to watch the entire video, but I did. Please keep a record of your cats condition from the medicine. Hopefully Morpheous will feel better. 🙏

Thanks so much @FigureFever your kind words are much appreciated, I also didn't want to post it, but I guess because I have a bigger platform here on YT I figured I can do some good to inform others of this condition, that before I have never heard of, and with Morpheous' story, hopefully a story of speedy recovery, I can give hope to others that are dealing with the same thing with their fur babies . Thanks Nate 🙏 means a lot! I took him to the vet today for another visit. They gave him a shot of antibiotics and another for inflammation, and after 3 hours later, he started to eat some of his snacks. He is getting his appetite back ☺️👍 thanks again Nate 😎🙏

@@cirespeedreviews yeah. Been their. We..Chose to NOT..end it 'early' no f'n way. Babyed her(she was OLD man. But..osos sweet. Before she came to be like this.. she had a great last 2/3 months .. so. you got some good meds and good advice.. while we had whatever?! This specific cat? Wld t drink the water. Maybe licked her wet food. I did get her feeding from a bottle. She seemed..to recover a moment. Welp. I'll spare ya the.. What still hurts today. She held on man! Was so SO loving on the end..til the end. Phew! I..will pray hard..Morpheus will make it. As he is drinking water .. and eating. That? Is half the battle. Keep that UP 😁 lmk how it goes. Even in IG dms.. 🙏if ya need too. Or have questions. Or..just wana talk about it. Sighs?! From what I went through? Thank you SiFi.. I try, but I feel at times, I might not be doing enough. I have some natural antibiotics coming tomorrow, and today I bought some tasty gravy and tuna and some other cat foods to tempt him into eating. Hope that the antibiotics kicks in and gets him back on all 4. He just lays around all day now. 😢 but let's see if things turn around 🙏

Symptoms can manifest for the duration of an infection, but if the infection causes permanent damage to the inner ear, it's permanent. I've had cats with permanent disorder caused by bacterial infections -- "Orangey" only had damage on one side, but "Ruffles" had it on both and was completely deaf. Both managed to recover some of their balance, Orangey more so than Ruffles. Just like you will when you have a head cold, they learn to rely more heavily on sight and kinesthetic senses for balance. After a couple years, Orangey was mostly normal, but he'd always rotate his head when he looked up or turned. Ruffles had a lot harder time and the silence made him feel quite lonely, since from his perspective, nobody would answer his calls. He eventually was able to walk around, but not without weaving.

Thank you so much for the information, Morpheous is elderly and worse off because he is so skinny, rail thin before the infection, and now more so. If he had at least some fat reserves, he would be ok until he recovers from the infection, but he now stopped eating, and he is not interested in drinking water anymore. I don't think I have many options at this moment 😢I want him to recover but idk if that's going to happen.

@PSUQDPICHQIEIWC the vet gave me meds for the ear infection, Otomax and Dexamethasone for inflammation and that's all. Nothing for fever, I gave him some water this morning with a dropper, he wasn't interested but I gave it to him anyway, idk if an infection can make him uninterested in eating or drinking though. I was happy the day before yesterday when he was hungry for tuna, but yesterday he wasn't interested in food or water.
