You are partly right. I agree with the beginning of your comment. A neutered cat will be more stable and more inclined to stay at least or near it. But, a cat will always need a little bit of freedom, because of its natural instinct. And precisely as he is neutered he always comes back home, whether it's the same day, the next day, or even more. I had a cat that every summer, around mid-June, left and came back mid-September. He was going to join a house where the owner came every summer for three months with her very pretty cat. And mine went there, to spend a summer in charming company, although he was neutered. I ended up giving him some toys and a blanket. This person, even, took the entire load, although the cat was not his at the base. Because in addition, it was very beneficial for her cat, which the first year (without the visit of my cat) had a kind of depression because of the change of house. But the following year, after she ran away from home, she came back two or three days later with my cat. And since then, every year at the beginning of June, when she saw the preparations for leaving for this house, she went to bed day after day on the suitcase, impatiently awaiting the trip. She never again suffered from depression, on the contrary. So I never stopped him from going there and he always came back. And they even ended up coming together to spend a few days at home together. We opted for a kind of shared custody, because this person took care of my cat and ensured all his needs, during these three months, without ever asking me for anything and refusing, even my offer to provide him with food and the reimbursement of some veterinary expenses, which she had paid.
