My CDT Resupply Strategy

I intend to hike the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) in 2024 and will vlog my experience. Follow me under "Old Man and the CDT."
I am Mike Current, 61-years-old, and retired military. I served for over 30 years in the US Army.
After retirement, I opened two small businesses. But after a few years, I sold both businesses because they were taking time away from pursuing personal goals, like hiking and sailing.
I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) in 2020 and Appalachian Trail (AT) in 2022. I vlogged (video journaled) my experiences under "Old Man and the PCT" and "Old Man and the AT", respectively.
I sailed around the Chesapeake Bay in my Tayana 37 sailboat over the summer of 2023 and vlogged the experience under the KZbin channel "Old Man and the Sea."

I have never watched a CDT thru hike vlog, only dozens of AT vlogs. But you impressed me so much with your 105 day AT thru hike I am excited to follow your journey. I know the logistics of recording/posting videos is quite the chore so I sincerely thank you for sharing your hike.

Thank you for another great video. Those resupply boxes are still the highlight of a long hike, for me. It is one of my biggest dreads now, knowing that my late husband will not be adding something special to each one of them, when I am out on trail again. You are an extremely deserving and lucky man to have a wife that supports your adventures. Thank you again for taking us along on your journey.

1) I love your OCD personality! 2) hats off to the wife! My wife and I supported our daughter and son in law during their Army careers. Takes a special person! 3) the youtuber named "gear skeptic" shows almond M&M's as one of the highest calories per ounce foods! Thank you for your family's service. I was the son of a deployed father, deployed to combat myself, and was the father of deployed children. And I can tell you the hardest to endure of the three was when my children were downrange. If folks hadn't picked up on my OCD in my previous videos, it really screams out in this one.

Fabulous! I’m an over planner, and you gave me several ideas. The M&M’s idea has to be the best, made me laugh. I’m just starting my thru hiking life, plan on AT next year, at 62 yo, weeks into retirement. My dream is triple crown…thank you for the all the inspiration and helping with thinking thru the logistics . Also, thank you and your children, and your wife, for serving our great country! 🇺🇸 (I added your wife because having her husband, and children serve, and making sure you all had everything you needed, and love and support from home, i’m sure was instrumental in your success)

Hi Mike, Could you attach your Word document or a PDF of your plan with the stops, etc you are planning to use to this video after your hike. That detailed plan would be extremely helpful to future hikers.

I enjoyed watching Waldo and Ben Jones. In fact, I think I am going to steal Waldo's line,"cruisey, cruisey" for easy miles and Ben's "enough jibber jabber" when I think I'm talking too much.

Hi Mike, long time follower. Love the effort you put into all your expeditions!! Thought I would mention that your video image is inverted correctly but it’s not being reverted. There should be a setting in your editing SW to correct the image.

Great video, Mike. That was interesting. I've often wondered how people plan for resupply. Plus it's also fun to see what different folks plan to eat on trail. So thanks for sharing that. Are you going to take a physical map and compass with you? (Just in case you need it) i have heard the CDT has sketchy area where it is not marked well. Less than a month to go. I'm excited. I will not take any paper maps. But I have two different map apps on my phone, and another set of detailed electronic maps on my Garmin.

Failing to plan, is planning to fail. I can see you're going to do great with the thought made prior to the hike. If you feel up to it, please post your plan for those of us going to attempt the same hike.

Good videos. I might do CDT next year (sobo), with some other 2022 AT thru hikers. Do you have PCT videos? My neighbor is currently on it and there's some parts that terrify me. I'd take some advice from you, if you don't mind. Would love to watch your videos from that, if you have a link. If I do both, my wife will follow along, in our outfitted truck.

I don't have any specific sobo references, since I always knew I was going to hike north and, thus, focused my efforts such. The CDTC put out two videos that go over the permits and getting to the northern Terminus.
