yes i had to buy a ticket that included a larger suitcase if i'm not mistaken, but the interesting thing is, there was nobody in the train that would check passengers' tickets

I think it's easier for Japanese people than for foreigners, because you have to enter your (strictly) Japanese phone number, which I didn't have at the time
