Just bought this amp for my 15 year old daughter and we both love the sound. Put in a jbl 12" speaker and it is a lot louder and cleaner. I don't understand all the hate of the MG series on the guitar forums.

I don't either. I have a MG100DFX both head and combo, and I love them. In fact, I like the sound of these better than tube amps.

This Marshall amp has so many uses, not just for guitars, I've played synths through this amp, with a little eq you can and will get some top results, and its more than a starter amp, its a tank of an amp that never lets you down

I own an AC/30, Marshall DSL 100 w 1960A cab, Peavey Mace, Peavey Special 112S and a MG 50 just like this. MGDFX 50. I play for a living and use the MG! Trick is on the dirty is diming the mids. Contour knob all the way to the left. Clean mids at 6. Treble on 5. Mics up great! Loves pedals! The key to Marshalls are the mids. They, solidstate or not, are very high ended. On my DSL I dime the bass and mids. All the classic tones you here are there. Plug a 100 watt head into an open 212 and you will see there is not a lot of bottom until the bass is almost dimed.

The new MG gold series are surprisingly decent sounding for a beginner or just for a practice amp.

Freakin' great starter amp !!! Glad you still have it. howza about playing thru your stereo (Headphones, pre amp, split signal) because you couldn't afford an amp ?? Worked. First amp was an Estey Magnatone 1213 (hell, not sure) but a tube 1/12 with reverb and the glorious Vibrato. Sold it with eveything in '80.ha, $75.00 like new with a cover. Hit that with a Strat, Big Muff and CryBaby. Trower and UFO were faves. I swear, If i could choose between that and any ss Marshall combo, I'd take the Mag. Hell, maybe ANY combo. I miss this one dearly.

Me as a bass player and the other guitarist of my first band started out with old tube radios. The sound was great, but not enough volume because of the speakers that have been in those. Especially because the other guitarist had a Vox AC 30.... OK, it didn't last long until I got me my first bass combo amp, a F.A.L. Kestrel with 100 Watts and a 15" speaker. It sounded not bad at all. 40 years later I found the verry same amp in the storage of my amp tech. As I asked if he would sell the beast, he said "I mounted a new power switch, the bill was € 20,--. Give me the money, and its yours". I threw my money at him and had to load this behemot into my car. I had forgotten, that this huge combo just had about 100 lbs.....

I actually have one right now, and I really started to like it after replacing the speaker inside with a Jensen, and its loud enough to play with a drummer so it's a pretty nice amp. Nice demo btw :)

My first amp was a Randall RG80-112SC. I used to run a Digitech RP7 Valve into it using the 4 cable method for a long time before I finally upgraded to tubes. I now use a Bugera Trirec Infinium, not because of cost, but because it is such a tight, crisp, mid heavy amp. I play a prog groove metal that is very mid heavy and needed that extra tight crunch and punchy sound that would cut through in a mix without getting flubby in the lows like a Mesa Rectifier.

I know this is an old video but that Ernie Ball Music Man guitar is sick! The roasted maple neck with all that flame on the back. Plus 2 active humbuckers on what looks like an offset body shape. So sweet!

Hello, I just bought this amp and I had a question… Whenever I switch from either Crunch or OD1/OD2 to the Clean channel I am noticing that the Clean channel is very much louder than any of the distortion channels. Also when I engage the FX (either from Clean or Crunch/OD) it also increases the volume significantly. I have tried playing with the Volume & Master Volume but have had no luck in creating a same level volume for Clean, Crunch/OD & FX. Switching on the Clean and FX always make the volume significantly louder when switching to them. Is there a way to make is to the clean and FX are the same volume as the Cruch/OD? Thanks so much!

Ray!! I had the mg 10. It's the 6.5 speaker combo. It's the cheapest amp they make other then the battery ones. I got it new for 50 bucks. There like 70ish new, I used it for a week. I brought it back,it's solid state drive, the clean channel was nice but I had other amps so it went back. I'd give them a try again

Childhood amp ? 😂 man stop That shit !!! I just had that amp it hasn’t been that long ago. Everybody in the world stopped by to tell me how bad my amp sucked and had no tone when I posted it and I thought it sounded killer. Maybe that’s why. They were all still babies. Like people hated that amp so bad. I don’t even. Think anyone would actually listen. They just went around KZbin e mri bash that amp. That and the metal zone which live always loved both. But when you get my age. 10 years seems like 3 or 4 years 😂 that killed me.

I like that first demo riff that clean part and then the part right after that it reminds me of old 90s emo stuff I listen to not to be confused with the current definition of emo so don't worry it's not terrible music 😂😂. So my son currently plays a Hughes and Kettner tubemeister 18 but the first amp I got him was a fender frontman 212 solid-state amp and that was our first experience with any kind of guitar amp because when I played in a punk band in the 90s I was a basis and after I left it I picked up the guitar but I never actually had an amp so we didn't know what we were doing and the settings were all weird real trebly real high so we thought that app wasn't any good but come to find out it's actually not a bad amp when you know how to set one up, but after trying a tube amp for the first time I said I needed to sell it and buy a tube amp so I did and I ended up finding a Peavey 6505 combo that was converted to a head unit for like 350 bucks and it actually sounded really good for the punk stuff we play but that's when my son actually joined the church worship band and so he started incorporating pedals and needed a clean platform which unfortunately the 6505 didn't have one. I ended up selling that and buying a little old and pay that was pretty much a clean bass amp and he use that for a little bit but he didn't really like it but I found a girl selling the two Meister on Craigslist so I asked her if she would be interested in a trade and she went for it and that's how my son got his tubemeister.

My son has got a MG 15 from his mother I found to be a pile of shit. So I asked a friend of mine if he had any decent amp for a 12 years old boy who wanted to have some high gain tones. He gave me a Hughes&Kettner Attax 80 combo, full solid state, 80 Watt @ 8 and 100 @ 4 Ohm, two channels and a spring reverb for 100 €. Today my son has a Peavey 5150 and a Marshall 5100, but he still loves his old H&K, he often plays it over 2 x 212" cabs, because this amp has a real good tone and lots of gain. Even standalone, with the Vintage 30 that is mounted in the amp, it has a great sound, is real loud and has no weight. So for sessions, rehearsal and small gigs those old solid state combo amps have their place.

This is the first amp for me too, but I always have the feeling this amp misses the 1st overdrive channel. It only has one and it sounds like "the second OD channel" if you know what I mean. I want overdrive but part of time not that much.

RAYYYYYY- hey bro!! Just wondering why no one seems to know how to mod the mg line. I like them, it seems they just need a noise gate in the front and post. A true celestion speaker to top off. Now I will say they are a bit pricey new to be a mod platform. Mint, used is the best. Great channel, thanks-

First amp peavey vypyr vip 1 and I cant stand it I dislike pretty much all the tones I get from it. I'm sure some of it has to do with being a new player and not being very good. But that thing sounds like ass. Cant wait to upgrade any suggestions in the $1000 range.
