My Chiori experience - aesthetics and expectations. Genshin Character Review!

From the moment I saw Chiori, just based on aesthetics and personality alone, I knew I had to get her.
However, now that she’s here, I have mixed feelings.
As someone who loves all the characters her gameplay has similarities with, it was pretty obvious that I’d love actually playing as her. But while there are a lot of positives, there are some negatives too, and she’s not quite what I had hoped for.
There are also some key details where my experience is very different to the general consensus on her that I’ve seen so far.
Let’s review her story, kit, build, and playstyle, and see if I can find a place for her in my teams.

I'm happy to see a content creator actually speaking positively about her. I got her C1 (so she could do more damage alongside Navia) and her weapon. I find her extremely fun to play, and with good artifacts, she does great damage. Also, what a stuning character design 🧡💛

@@cmcguire7901 Wild how much of a contrast there is between those and the few bigger ones I've stumbled across, who were saying she's underwhelming! I'd have loved for her to bring something new to the game, but as a geo subdps she's pretty great for sure.

@@FacialFischl Mono geo! I've been using Chiori either with Zhongli, or in that Navia plunge team (Furina/Xianyun/Chiori/Navia), but up til now I've never had a mono geo team. I want to save my primos for Father so I can't get Itto, which means it's a choice between Noelle and Ningguang as the DPS... and of the two I definitely prefer Noelle's playstyle. I tried out Furina/Zhongli/Chiori/Noelle on Saurus's account and it was actually really fun with fantastic damage, so I'm gonna go for that - and maybe add Gorou to it too at some point! And either way, I'm happy with Chiori's damage in teams without a geo construct anyway. The DPS difference isn't as bad as some creators are claiming, she still feels pretty awesome and does a decent enough job.

I got chiori for of course my bias factor - she's so easy to be loved idk - but also for my c1 itto team and gosh she works superiorly with him, literally tailor-made to be there

I agree despite the marketing with Navia, I think she was tailor-made (tehe) for Itto! If only I had Itto 😩

Great review !! I also was waiting for her since the 4.3 event and after maintenance I pulled for her and her signature weapon without hesitation. I love her playstyle and her switch part on her kit it feels very smooth for me. I’m currently using her with Ningguang, Furina and Zhongli.

Some fun facts: Chiori is the only character who cares what order your party members are in (because of the auto-switch), and the only way to swap characters in midair. She's also the only character with a movement speed passive that isn't restricted by time of day. C1 doesn't seem worth it even for Navia teams, you can either run something like Navia/Yelan/Zhongli/Chiori (Z's res shred makes up for the -20% attack, especially if Navia has an atk% weapon, and I don't feel like two element appliers is necessary to get enough crystallizes) or just not worry about the missing doll and use her to generate geo energy.

Plus Navia getting less 20% attack is still dps loss because you could replace zhongli with Bennett. Chiori with one doll is albedo dps level.

I like your take on Chiori and it's nice to hear some positivity about her especially from such a lovely voice. I just wish she did something more for my roster besides powercreeping my Albedo. My motivation for picking a character alongside a fun personality/design is opening up varying playstyles or adding utility to my roster. Playing a different way or a team I've never tried and revamping older teams or characters to make them more viable is what I look for the most. I wish she did something that I couldn't just slot Albedo in because she's quite lovely

Try Venti Albedo Chiori Bennett (this was my team order) in the first half of the current 4.5 abyss. It's surprisingly strong. Was my fastest 12-2-1 team that I have access to. You use Bennett after Chiori E to burst and swap back to burst on buffed Chiori. Venti + Albedo bursts is just awesome against many mobs

Lost a surprise early pity guarantee trying to wrap up my four stars with Goro. So she's literally the only five-star geo I own. So none of the teams in the vid would be viable for me. But! I'm excited to use all the knowledge provided here to try her out with the four-star geo folks I've got. It might not be an abyss-worthy team, but we'll see. Might even push me to wish for Zhongli on his next rerun. I do love a good sheilder. Thanks for all your testing so that we don't have to!

So glad you got Gorou too! 😁 Zhongli would probably be worth it I think - my biggest problem with him was that I didn't have any teams I liked which really needed him, since my Layla is just as good... but him with Chiori is *massively* better and I'll be using the two of them together a ton I think!

Like you with her attitude/personal/style she is EXACTLY like this girl i'm sorta seeing in real life, I knew it was meant to be. I saved from Bird retainer banner and got Chiori on my first 10 pull (0 pity/no guarantee) 40 pulls later got C1, then I rolled on weapon banner (7 pity) got Uraku Misugiri on first 10 pull. Now she is with my Navia c0/r1 team and its perfect. Shes a huge upgrade and way more fun than Ningguang/Geo traveler. Im f2p i had 73 wishes left over and got Jean c1 for my ayaka team now losing the 50/50 going for c2

My primary goal is to amass a large number of wishes for Natlan, but I should be able to snag Neuvi C0R1 without destroying my plans. Finally a content creator that isn’t blind to what a great unit chiori is. I agree her burst would have been better if it had some sort of team buff, but overall she’s fantastic. I’m certainly biased because I play geo a lot, but overall an off field dps with those numbers on their scalings shouldn’t be scoffed at.

I do think that it is good to actually think about which charachters to wish for, since if not using all your money, it is hard to be able to get everyone. But I still think that we should be wishing more with our hearts like you did with Chiroi! Loving the design and the charachter should be enough proof to get one😊

I believe Husk actually has the slight edge over Troupe, rather than the reverse. Probably because the DMG is watered down a bit by geo resonance and her A4. Though both are so close to each other that what matters most is which set you have the best substats from. So it'll come down to the superior farming value of the Troupe domain versus the strongbox-ability of Husk. And no doubt it changes with cons... as C2, for example, adds 3 more high damage hits based on her E, which would boost the value of Troupe more so than Husk. Anyway, personally, I'd say she's an easy skip for anyone who doesn't play geo a lot. If the geo you do play doesn't use a construct and you aren't willing to go to C1, she's still a pretty easy skip. You're better off spending the pulls on something like Furina cons and use another geo you already have for resonance for the likes of Navia. Especially if you already have Albedo. Yes, she still does Albedo level damage without a construct around at C0, but, well, she does Albedo level damage and that isn't something to write home about. Her kit is also kinda... straightforward, simple? She does damage. If you get her cons, she does more damage. Really wish her burst had a little something extra to it at the very least. I think that'll kind of limit her future options. Also, not a fan of how she's tied to having a construct using geo to really be worth it, and that her C1 just lifts the construct bit, but you still need a geo. It's a stupid set of restrictions. Constructs are inferior to regular summons, and her being tied to them doesn't make them better. It makes her worse. We don't need incentives to play double geo. Geo resonance is enough by itself. So, basically, the entire situation just serves to make her a less desirable character, and further reinforces geo being a bad element that isn't worth using over other elements that do interesting things when combined together. But while her kit is overall kinda meh in various ways, she looks great, she does enough damage to get the job done at c0/no-construct, and a bit more with c1 and/or a construct, and she is fun enough. So there's no reason not to pull her if you like her (and play a geo). Also, I like that her E's utility value, as an exploration tool, works nicely with the likes of Albedo, GMC, and Zhongli... get some height from those, then fling yourself up higher still with Chiori's skill. Anyway, while she isn't what I wanted her to be, and I believe she really isn't what geo needs, I am having fun with mine.

I was watching this while doing some work and my brain kept hearing tamato as tomato, so now I’m just imagining Chiori pelting tomatoes at enemies 😂 I’ve no need of her yet, and there’s too many characters ahead of her in the queue to justify a want, but she looks like a lot of fun (and of course she is gorgeous!).

i can relate to that pull story right now, lol. xianyun and chiori were on my sights but both of them really wanted to play hard to get as they both took me the FULL 180 pulls to get. leaving my pathetic little f2p self with a c2 tighnari and not much else left for anything else i might have wanted. rip my chances of getting daddy arlecchino.

Awww, tough luck with the wishes! But I'm glad you managed to get her in the end! 😊 I had built pity and saved enough for 20 wishes. When my shooting stars turned golden, Dehya stepped forward. 😢 But being positive, I'm now trying to experiment with Dehya and Furina... any thoughts?

I agree with most of it, with the exception of Husk vs golden troupe.. You should try 4pc husk over 4pc golden troupe since your using her burst in her rotation.. From what I have tested in my account, it yields higher damage.. GT is mostly for skill then swap out playstyle.. Hopefully you can get Itto in the near future, in my opinion he's the best dps you can pair with Chiori.. Ushi being a geo contruct is a godsend for her kit.. I usually use Itto, Chiori, Gorou and either Zhongli or Albedo or Bennett as the final slot.. Congrats on getting Chiori, hopefully more Geo contruct focused character will be released to increase her versatility more..

Meanwhile, my artifact inventory has 130 GT artifacts, and 15 husk ones... 😅 I'll believe you that given equal substat strength husk is worthwhile, but farming husk doesn't feel worth it for the comparatively small boost it'd provide, sadly! She's awesome enough without it anyway 😁

Oh yes I tested both sets extensively! The husk came out on top for burst damage by quite a lot, but the skill damage was almost identical (with troupe sligfhtly ahead), and that's even though troupe was with an ATK sands so about 1.2k less defence total (compared to max buff husk). Crit rate was almost the same, and for husk I swapped for a higher crit damage goblet so the total crtD difference was 25% between the two sets. If my troupe set had a good DEF sands it would come on top, OR if alternatively I could have a husk hat somewhat equivalent to my troupe hat that'd be the clear winner. Either way the difference between the two sets if you have equally good pieces is pretty negligible imo! Right now my only husk set is indeed stronger overall, but I decided I'll farm troupe and perhaps strongbox some more husks and see which set gets completed first! Chiori and albedo are currently forced to share which is mighty uncomfortable >:( I do hope I'll get Itto too.. I really love him as a character, he'd b a joy to have. If it weren't for Father, I'd probably throw wishes at his banner for the rest of the cycle :/

I saw that there were also Japanese streamers clarifying that her C1:C0 is not actually 2:1, but 3:2. But some of the official PV have raised expectations for how she's partnered with Navia, making her C1 more of a paywall. Although Neuvillette is in a similar situation, the player is more tolerant of him because he is so powerful. The C2 of the Archons is similar

I always appreciate your perspective on things, but I'm not sure comparing C0R1 Chiori (I assume you used her signature weapon) to Bennett is very favorable to her. I've never used him, but as I understand Bennett is easy to build, can heal, potentially offers Pyro resonance and also helps with Navia's passive for PECH element characters. If it requires 350+ wishes to get Chiori close to Bennett's performance, is that really positive? We've had so many interesting, flexible and powerful characters lately, that Chiori feels weirdly out of place. Like a relic of a bygone era. Navia was a huge step in the right direction for Geo, and they took several steps back with Chiori's kit in my opinion. Combine that with her somewhat boring and restrictive kit that mimics Albedo's in many ways, and it's no wonder many players feel disappointed. I also pulled Chiori and I've been relatively happy with her performance in my Navia team, but that's only because my expectations were tempered by the online discourse. We need more balanced takes like yours on characters, but I feel people are right to be disappointed with her kit and performance in this case.

It was actually C0 Chiori with Cinnabar Spindle for that comparison! And yeah he's valuable in other ways, but it just depends on the team - in that team for example, Xianyun is already providing more than enough healing, and swaps Navia's passive for geo resonance which is definitely an upgrade. Chiori was WAY easier to build than Bennett too - GT/MH domain is one of the most valuable, while for Benny you're either running a pretty inefficient domain or relying on strongboxing (which has never worked for me). That's not to say it's a reason to pull for her - she's very much a luxury who has better alternatives that are more flexible, but I've seen people say she's very weak to boot, which is not really true! 100% agree with the rest though, and it's valid for people to feel disappointed. I pulled anyway and was a little unsure since I don't really use geo characters much and don't have any other than Zhongli and Navia ...but actually Chiori + Zhongli feels like a combo I'll be using a ton, so despite still feeling like it'd have been better if she was something different, she's been a big win for me at least!

I should have specified that in the video but it completely escaped my mind - that's my bad! 😅 I agree people have a right to be a little disappointed - I'm happy with her as she is but I'd be lying if I didn't admit I was hoping some extra twist, and for her to bring something other than *just* damage to the team.. 😔

I couldn't agree with you more in regard to her design. I won't pull for her, however, since I already have Albedo and she directly powercreeps him, which I don't support. I'm disappointed that HYV chose this route and it makes me lose confidence in them. It's very unfortunate that that's what became of Chiori for me because I was rather charmed by her design and post Navia had high expectations of her kit design as well.

As long as they don't increase the ambient powercreep I don't mind it so much - like with Xingqiu and Yelan, I think there's enough space for there to be two characters who take on the same role. Wish she'd been something a bit different for sure though, like Navia was, but I'm happy with her at least. Mixed feelings really!

@@raptori I never minded having two Xingquis (Yelan doesn't powercreep him @C0 and 5* star power purchasing in constellations is fair play, I believe), however, in contrast Albedo has well known issues with his skill that require addressing. Xingqui does not. And, they have fixed them all - by making Albedo 2.0. Unfortunately, og Albedo and his clunk aren't going anywhere (well, they did move to a new banner I suppose). And yes, I agree that within the confines of Geo, which already suffers from a lack of options - a repeat is not what was needed. I just hope it doesn't mean that when we point to problems with a character's kit, our concerns will be met with Character 2.0 going forward. Maybe I'm just being paranoid 😅

I did not care for Geo at all while playing Genshin, the element is boring and the characters did not appeal to me that much - that was until Navia's appearance. Although I liked her i did not plan on pulling her banner due to being Geo, but I liked her gameplay so I ended up getting her, and she is my favourite character now. Then I saw Chiori in the Fontinalia festival, and I was sure I'll pull her to be my Nahida's Geo teammate. Her design is gorgeous, and I like her personality as well, perfect right? Well, then came the kit reveal and then the release, and I don't have the slightest interest to pull now. Even though she can be played with Navia without C1 it just feels bad, but I'm not a fan of the other aspects of her gameplay either. While the burst animation is beautiful, the ability itself is just one of the most boring ability in the game. I'm not a fan of the Tamoto dolls either, and I would prefer if the dual blades would not be there just for show, and be actually useful. TL;DR: Geo, bad with Navia, boring kit, easy skip

I despise her C1 not because of the dmg difference, but because it's predatory. They constantly marketed them together, but Chiori was given purposeful, anti-synergy with Navia...just so they could sell people an extra copy. It's not the same as Neuvillete, because his C1 improves many new team comps, and makes him better with all the hydro characters. C1 Chiori is a dmg boost ONLY for Navia and Noelle teams, and to a small extent Yun Jin. Only a range bonus is a laughable perk for a constellation, in teams that already have a geo construct. Truly disappointed not in Chiori, but in Mihoyo's game design decisions this time.

That's exactly why I didn't pull for the c1 haha; being marketed with Navia definitely gives the impression they are "meant to" be played together, and seeing as her c1 makes it so there's literally no downside in playing them together is a bit of a sketchy move - it feels manipulative. THAT said, the important thing is that you really don't lose out on as much damage aspeople thought if you do play c0 chiori and navia together - if the damag difference had been bigger it would have been a bigger issue imo!

If C0 Chiori at least gave a small team buff regardless of construct, I think I would've been okay with it. And I agree, while it could've been worse...I see this as the slippery slope that it IS getting worse. C1 Neuv + Furina was already iffy territory. But at least Furina more than made up for the 1 dmg stack loss on C0 Neuv teams. I hope I'm just doom-posting, and this is a one off. Chiori is still a great addition, I'm just getting more and more concerned about Hoyo's design philosophy on constellations going forward.

I don't like how her colors are mat (no shine) from head to toe. Makes her look and feel like an NPC. I don't like how her dolls just sit there and damage just magically happens to monsters. Don't like how she is just a side-grade for other characters I already have (Xiangling, Ben). Was looking forward to her since I use Noelle and Navia a lot but she became an easy skip.

Disagree on her looking like an NPC, personally I prefer when they have a matte look - valid to prefer some shine though! 100% agree on her doll movements - I wish they'd follow the enemies around, even if they just moved very slowly it would make a big difference.

Chiori's doll is called Tamoto, not Tomato. But don't worry, you're by far not the only one reading it wrong. From what I have heard, even Chiori herself seems to be quite confused about it. Personally I found Chiori unattractive both for her element, her design, and her attitude so I'm skipping. But I certainly wish everyone who got her lots of fun playing her.
