As a ex mechanic and now beef farmer,,I'll give you an example of bodyshop repair rip offs,,,mk5 mondeo drivers door,big dent in it,and scratched..Bodyshop repair quoted £450 ...I laughed and walked off... Went to local scrap yard who deal only with Ford's,, £80 new door..Perfect..In colour,absolutely perfect...

Yes I will always look to change a panel in colour than go to paint but sometimes its not always possible.

2016, bluehdi, grand picasso - got it second hand (i know, i was naive) a year ago. Done about 5k on it and at 168k the gasket has gone. Rip. My and official garage quoted £1.8-2.5k for head skimming, but didn't recommend as these engines notorious for breaking, not economically viable. I should have listened to my garage when i brought it first time for alternator repair.

I've only had a Citroën C4 petrol 12 plate and Peugeot 308 petrol 17 plate French cars both automatic, neither went to the garage apart annual servicing, unlike a Ford Focus I once owned.

Thanks john, no I don't think I did, the lady who we bought it off genuinely did not know where it was leaking from and without removing the front of the exhaust system even we could not tell where the leak was from. I think its still worth plodding on with and believe that 500-600 can be still had out of this car with little input from me as I will hopefully demonstrate in part 3 providing we don't get any other surprises. I bought a 2010 Citroen HDI diesel, 4 weeks ago, ran perfect for 2 weeks and gearbox started grating and making a racket. Took it to local garage they refused to even repair it, too much aggro. My car will be scrapped next week having cost me £2200, AVOID the HDI semi-automatic at all costs!

These new design gearboxses are not fit for high mileage ie variable transmission I had a mercedes b class automatic 80.000 miles cost so much to have it repair I had to scrap it.

Very strange, we have 3 Citroen's, all with the EGS gearbox and we have no issue with any of them. I suppose its just bad luck on your part.

I have learnt so much from watching your videos. As with many others, I have experienced a couple of vehicles with overheating (gauge goes right around) or the stop light comes on. I have went through, having the the vehicles repaired but the same problem, will eventually pop back up. This incudes' head gasket as being repaired? Nightmare. So you let the vehicle go, as you tend to be throwing good money, after bad money spent. I would purchase a vehicle from yourself, with some sound peace of mind. However in the used sales market (sold as seen). Like a box of chocolates, you never know which one you are going to get. This car with a new engine and timing belt? Well there is not much more reassurance. Sounds like you already have a lot of interested buyers, for the BMW!

Hi, i had a c4 with same issue, there is a core plug under the exhaust manifold, £2.00 to repair it.

I grew up in the motor trade a very long time ago and learnt a key early lesson: the general public are the biggest gangsters of all. the real reason why that guy was getting rid of the Citroen was because he knew the cost of repairing the water leak.

I see french cars still have problems with the engines thought they had sorted them out on the newer models (pre 2005 models head gasket headache and immobilizer issues 😩) guess they haven't with all of them sorry to hear this news hopefully the new engine will be 100 times better with zero issues bud

Rare to see headgasket failures. Usually owners who fail to service or drive properly who knacker the car up. Got two French diesels sat at 250k and both going strong without any major work.

Good luck with some profit or very little loss. In reality if you include labour hours involved with replacing engine it would of been better to take the loss on scraping it but it’s your own time not actual cost, so maybe this is better, regardless of what others say in the comments I think maybe customer knew more than they let on and felt selling to wbc or garage is fair game but had enough of a conscience not to sell to private buyer knowing full well they may just keep coming back

Why do we do it!? Just buy crap, today £350 for a low mileage Getz, sold one last week low mileage, another old 206 ( they don't break ); and a Clio black tints original car Extreme, cheap.

I have a paint man I use, this was all done and painted and ready to sell, was about to do a part 3 video on it and took it for a drive and pre check and noticed its got a water leak from a housing 🙈 so now need to repair that. It will be ready soon I am sure

The engine I am putting in has less than the current (new engine 82k, the broken unit 134k), there really is not much you can do as you cannot legally or morally adjust the mileage. Just advise its a new engine I guess

Pity regarding the Citroen engine. Citroen engines are usually very good. I know of a diesel Picasso 2L HDI that is still running fine on it's original engine with over 500,000 miles on the clock.

no bud the only way would be to change the engine or cut our losses, i am not afraid to cut my losses i did this recently on the honda crv but there is still a decent wedge in the car as long as we dont get many surprises, thanks for watching 👍

For 850, would just scrap it and sell it for spares, wasting time on old scrappers, not worth it, plus the fact a buggered about engine never going to be reliable. Even putting another engine in, is that going to be worn out old nail too, that comes back again ?Hard to see why you bother with it, rather you than me.
