Do you have a video of you repairing/disassembling the motor? Did you take this apart to clean it?

What kind of Lubrication did you use? Also, how did you clean it?

I have a Columbia Grafonola and when I wind it up and move the arm to the record, it doesn't engage, it just gets tight and then literally blows apart. Thoughts? I am going to take the back off and I guess take the motor out and see what bits might be seized or missing. All help gratefully accepted!

Any idea why my canisters aren’t spinning?

Maybe you can help me? I am currently rebuilding an identical motor and didn't take good note of which way the springs are wound! Can you elaborate?

I have an identical gramophone that i am trying to repair, I am having difficulty removing the winding arm it refuses to go any direction but clockwise, Any suggestions?
@Ecksterphono Жыл бұрын
Governor weight is also rubbing against the housing.

could you tell me how you opened the canisters.I don'y want to force them...
@databits10 жыл бұрын
Lloyd you have to put the cannister in a vice and use a screwdriver and hammer to carefully pop those lids off. The springs inside CAN pop out and hurt you, use thick rubber gloves and eye/body protection!

Can i ask how did you manage to pop the spring cans open...i have a portable Columbia 1 spring can and for the life of me i cannot get the lid off it...any ideas??
@databits8 жыл бұрын
Photographer Dave - a friend helped me who had a shop where he repaired small engines. We had to put the can in a vice and then use a hammer and chisel to beat the lid loose.

I have a problem with mine. I took apart the motor and cleaned it. It cranks up. But when I release the brake it does not play. But if I remove the main drive shaft it unwinds. I've tried putting it back in lose and tight. But it does not want to work. What can I do?
@SKHorology20256 жыл бұрын
Have you fixed this problem, yet?
@shaned936 жыл бұрын
@@SKHorology2025 Yes. After messing with it for a bit. I think I may have not been putting the shaft in correctly and the teeth were locking it.

@@shaned93 Ah, I see.
@shaned936 жыл бұрын
@@SKHorology2025 yeah. I cleaned it with some WD-40 to start. Then a small amount of hot soapy water. Then I dried it thoroughly and went over it all with some 3 in one oil. It works fine and sounds great.

Yours has three chambers!?! Mine has two and one isn’t working right. Any tips?
@databits7 жыл бұрын
The only tip I have is to hire a small engine repair guy (like someone who repairs lawn mowers) and have them carefully pop the cans open and check the condition of the springs. The springs are dangerous to work on because they can fly out of the can and injure you.

Thank you now I will check for somebody in my area

I have the same motor works but has an extremely loud noise at the fastest speed do you know what this could be?

are the 3 little governor weights hitting something when the centrifugal force from the high speed makes them extend outward?

Hi, do you know what the inner and outer switch is for?
@databits10 жыл бұрын
Christopher Salcido - One switch is start/stop and the other is speed control.
@RedHarvest4510 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response. But there is also a "stop" in & out switch under the turn table. Can't figure out what it is for.

@@RedHarvest45 That to turn the automatic stop on and off.

That is probably one of the reasons the motor is not spinning fast enough and Dinah shore sounds like a man. The springs have either come unclipped from the arbor shaft or the ends broke off The good spring takes up the drag for the other 2 slowing the motor too much causing the felt pads not to touch the governor yolk. If two are not working chances are the working spring is about to break. Good idea is to replace all 3 Its time for a rebuild.
