Colleen talked about how their conversation was a bit different than how Rachel told it. Apparently, Colleen was saying "whomever you date next... Man or woman..." & Rachel interrupted and said "woman". Then colleen said, "love it." Colleen did not put Rachel on the spot and never assumed anything. She waited for Rachel to tell her. Just for clarification.

When my youngest son came out he was scared of how his Dad would respond. He came home before Thanksgiving like Tuesday. He asked if Dad was around. I said no he's at work but will be home at 3. And asked if the 3 of us could have a sit down when he got home. When his Dad walked in and washed up and grabbed a beer. And the 3 of us sat to talk. He just blurted it out. And he said he was seeing a nice guy. I just stood up and hugged him and his Dad asked if he was happy. And he said yes he was happy. My husband just grabbed him and hugged and kissed his forehead and said no matter what you do in life we love and support you. And he walked outside to work on my car. We eat early on Thanksgiving and he and his boyfriend were together. They've been together 4 years married for a year and a half and they have adopted a baby.

Ikr. When I was figuring out my sexuality at like 14yrs old I was at a point where I thought that maybe I was like panromantic homosexual. I was extra, but I just hadn't figured out how to admit to myself that guys just don't do it for me, not even romantically. BUT THEN... I was walking to school from my bus one morning and suddenly I see this girl roughly my age walk in front of me from my right to my left and I just couldn't take my eyes off her because she was so attractive. Then I lose sight of her and just have this epiphany moment where my brain just told me "yea, bitch ur gay" and at that point i was just like "oh ok, cool". It felt so anticlimactic since I'd spent months "trying to figure out if I'm gay or not" and then there it just was... acceptance because I saw a pretty girl.

I think the reason there are coming out stories is because a lot of the world is still anti lgbtq+.. People are still forced into closets due to fear of death, banishment, and beatings.. And coming out stories allow those people that live in fear know that what they feel isnt odd or worrisome. That its normal to feel a certain way. But.. To each is own.. And pray for those that cannot come out.. And love those that do.. Thats all we can do.

@alisaishere3 жыл бұрын
Super popular opinion. Coming out should never be "a thing" and the boring stories make this more of a reality. As an adult who came out as pansexual late in life, I really just started introducing the person I was dating to my friends and family without warning said friends or family about different genders. I never officially told anybody unless they asked questions. It just wasn't a thing I wanted to do.

Plus, in cases like hers, I would think it’s a little embarrassing that someone might’ve realized that before you did. There was a guy in our high school, who has just recently, years later, come to accept that he’s gay. Though no one except his closest friends ever explicitly asked him (he always denied it, and apparently believed it himself), virtually everyone confidently assumed he was gay. Granted, my school was not a very accepting one, and his parents are extremely conservative and religious, so I understand the denial. But I can’t help but wonder how traumatizing that must have been to be the last person to reach that conclusion, even if the student body was unjustified in making that assumption.

@@jacquelinemaree9816 because they were probably like Rachel's family, they knew you needed to find out for yourself, And in your own time. I'm not going to say that I knew Rachel was gay, but, there were a couple of stereo typical signs that I had a thought that she might be. But there are also so many spectrums of the LGBTQ +s . My daughter is bisexual my niece is bisexual and I have another niece that is transgender. They all had to find out for themselves on their own time and I was just here when they needed to talk to someone. I'm glad her family is so understanding, and loving and excepting of her for who she is. A lot if not most people don't have that. Especially the family as a whole. I know mine isn't, Unfortunately.
@PandoraxBox3 жыл бұрын
I think that’s such a sensitive touchy topic. I had a best friend who just idek why but he made my gay senses ring so bad. I don’t have any problem with him doing or loving what/who he wants. I just want him to be happy and I loved him for who he was as a person. Everyone else must have felt his gay presence too, though.... I guess, because he actually was kinda bullied for it by some stupid homophobic classmates. Plus he’s kinda religious (just so you have some background on why that’s probably a sensitive topic to him) Anyway, years later I told my ex bf that I feel like he’s gay so he doesn’t worry because in his opinion men and women can’t just be friends. But he still was so concerned that he texted my friend and asked him directly without much introduction and that made him upset. Now he doesn’t want anything to do with me because my now ex- boyfriend wasn’t very empathetic towards him. And since my ex didn’t really tell my anything besides that they texted and he asked if he was gay, I assumed that he eased the question into the conversation but nope, he did not. Not knowing what actually was said, I told my former friend that I think it is fine to ask him if he is gay so I guess he assumed that I thought the way my ex asked seemed good to me (which of course no bc I know that that’s not an easy topic for him). And basically now we’re not friends anymore bc of that. Still don’t know how to feel about this whole story because it seems to be a big misunderstanding and I can’t change what my ex said. And since there is more history with me and said friend (let’s just say he once said something really unforgivable to me and I still forgave him after a few years eventhough he never apologised) I don’t feel like I should apologise for something I didn’t do bc to me it feels like my former friend can’t separate my ex and me. I wonder if I’m being stubborn bc of the fact that my former friend didn’t apologise when he had to or if it really isn’t my time to apologise bc this bs behaviour didn’t come from me but from my ex. I hope this made sense 😬😅 Can someone give me more perspective and maybe some advice on this whole situation?

After being married for 7 years, I figured out I'm bi. I told my husband & his exact response was "about time you figured that out", like it was no big deal. When I asked why he hadn't said anything, since he said he'd known for years, his response was that he figured it was something I really needed to figure out for myself and if he had said anything, I'd have instantly denied it, would have put me on the defensive, and it would have made it that much harder to figure it out for myself. In retrospect, he was absolutely correct. Like Rachel, I wasn't worried about telling him, or other friends/family, because it just wasn't going to be 'a thing'. And it hasn't been. Guess I'm just sharing this to back up the "telling someone they are gay when they haven't seen it for themselves yet, is NOT helpful" message. and yes, we are still married - coming up on 13 years married, now.

@Taylor Parker it's invaliding cause coming out can be terrifying and a huge struggle to finally do it, there's alot of different emotions, each person has different feelings and reactions when coming out. When finally getting the courage to come out people going "We knew" is just ignoring the person strength, emotions and vulnerability of finally being able to come out. They are being dismissive instead of empathic. Also people don't have any right to tell anyone they are gay since some people may not be ready to look at that, some hate labels and we can't tell anyone what there sexuality the person has to figure it out themselves without the pressure from others rushing them on coming out.

Your attitude to this is refreshing, it doesn’t need to be a “thing” it’s just a part of you, end of story. I’m very happy for you 😀 🌈

I wish my coming out story was uneventful. I wish everyone’s coming out experience was like Rachel’s.

Agreed. This was so therapeutic to watch. I grew up LDS and was outed in a very traumatic way when I was 16. I'm 24 now and still working throw the trauma of my "coming out" experience.

Thank you for calling out the people who “knew” before you and telling them that they didn’t help. Discovering yourself is inherently a personal experience, and everyone-including Internet personalities-deserves that space. So happy for you and your journey, Rachel.

SO glad we’re FINALLY getting to a point where people are much more accepting!! This is how it should be. How great is it that she has so many people in her life that just want her to be HAPPY!! The very best to you on the next chapter! Your going to be the best gay aunt EVER!! 💗
