just a quick tip: if you see yellowing leaf, leave it until it turn completely dry and brown. While leafs are drying, the plant is taking back the water and minerals from them, so it's good, leave it :)

Ultimately house plants should make us happy though, so if the dying leaf is bothering you and the plant is healthy, large, and well fertilized its not going to make much of a difference to the plant

My red maranta was looking good for over 6 months then started to get dry tips. I decided to cut all those leafs off 3 months ago and no dry tips since then so I believe it was some parasite. I also keep my plant soil moist but it has good drainage and I live in a dry climate and it works for me

Your information is very thorough and informative! I've taken a liking by getting my first Lemon Lime, but I can tell she's giving me a finicky diva response, so I'm doing the best I can since I'd love for her to survive and thrive. Definitely making me want a Rabbit's Foot, though! I should have started with that, I feel. Especially since I haven't worked with Marantas before. I'm very interested in the soil mix you mentioned for Marantas. May I ask what ratio of each you'd recommend? I live in Texas and have definitely invested with a humidifier, haha.

@twinfin85714 ай бұрын
I overwater as well. I lost a maranta and the second one I got didn’t do well either. Last fall it had one and 1/2 leaves left. I put it in a small terracotta pot and pretty much left it alone cuz I had already down potted and it still was dying. But after a couple months, I saw new growth. Now. Six months or so later, it has all news leaves. The original died off but before it died it put out 5 leaves. And today two more are on it. It is in terra cotta. I feel much more confident since it lived. I water a bit on top but mostly bottom water it. Seems odd to do that to terra cotta but it must soak up enough moisture to keep the plant happy. It’s small but very healthy. I’m happy. I foresee it getting big and I plan on filling it propagations as well. Yea!

With my red marantas, I'm pretty sure brown tips always means spider mites, even if you don't see any. My initial plant was fine for a year including winter drafts. But maybe the plant fights the bugs better without tap water. Have you tried cross-pollinating your marantas? (I self pollinated mine with a toothpick scoop, it wasn't easy...)

Thank you! I don’t mist no, I used to but I found it doesn’t really help with humidity much and depending on your environment if there’s not good airflow then the mist can sit on the leaves longer and can cause bacterial or a fungal spread to happen.

Is it normal for the red maranta to produce those smaller "rabbit track markings" leaves instead of their hallmark look? Do you know if it a symptom of anything?
@ticcitoasty Жыл бұрын
could be a lighting issue or nutrient deficiency. try moving it into brighter pr lower light depending on what it’s already getting, and if you haven’t refreshed the soil in a while or fertilized, try that too. hope this helps! a few faded leaves can be normal but if every new leaf it puts out is faded and noticeably smaller or shaped weird.. i would try those tips.

I’ve seen some of the rabbit tracks at Walmart but haven’t checked recently. I would check any local nurseries or keep checking lowe’s or Home Depot. I go frequently but find they usually get new shipments once a week. They don’t liked to be shipped I will say that it can definitely stress them so I would check locally first :)

What precautions should be taken when bringing a new maranta home? Would you just rinse leaves and or spray them with anything before putting them close to other plants? I know they can be sensitive.
@pinkyssj46 ай бұрын
I've personally reported all new plants into fresh soil, wash the leaves, spray with insecticide then isolate in separate room for a few weeks before introducing them to the rest of my plant family.
@tinam43536 ай бұрын
@@pinkyssj4 thanks, which insecticide do you recommend? Don’t want to get something too harsh and do my plant in that way either!
@pinkyssj46 ай бұрын
@tinam4353 I use Safer's End All and only put a couple drops (yes, drops) into my dollar store water spray bottle. Shake bottle well, then drench the leaves from top and underneath. Don't expose plant to direct light, I think this solution would burn the leaves. Re apply a few weeks later if you notice any bugs, but so far, this does the trick for me. Also, any current plants that have bugs, isolate them and spray all the leaves too.
