I'm personally an aeropress/light roast/steeped coffee enjoyer, but I also love the occasional flat white so this is very interesting. Love your videos mate. Keep em coming!
@jennifersoucie70562 ай бұрын
I also use an aeropress only because I know the parts are clean, whereas in a machine I can't just crack it open and clean all the parts. I like this video because I am crazy about espresso for more than one reason and all of the items appear easy to clean.

From keyboards to coffee research rabbit holes, every video you post I’m convinced our minds work very similarly (I spent days researching keyboards and after finding the ZSA Voyager, your video is what finally convinced me to pull the trigger on it). I appreciate the amount of detail, passion, and quality you put into every one of your videos.

I'm tempted but not quite in a place where i could spend this much. At home I've always made "jug" coffee. Ie just ground coffee in an earthenware jug with hot water, sometimes i stretch cling film over the top so that the evaporating aromatics are contained and drip back in (that's my theory anyway). I find those classic stove top espresso pots make a sour, bitter coffee and are impossible to get clean, cafetière's are also difficult to fully clean so tend to give that stale coffee flavour too, and filter coffee always has a "dusty" flavour to me.

Great video, Ben! Love the new foray into coffee. I'm not an espresso guy, but I do grind my own coffee, use scales and kettles, and experiment with coffee beans/roasts, grind sizes, water temps and brew times. But instead of making espresso with a Nano, I make regular coffee with an Aeropress.

Thanks! Yeah I'd have probably gone to something like this if the Outin didn't make its way across my desk! I think it's super fun how much the Outin lowers the barrier to entry for espresso.

All the same things, except pour over. The barrier to entry is much lower and the result is, to me, as good. Still like the video, as I do with all of yours

The best kind of coffee is what you enjoy. I think your setup is really usable. A reason why people spens thousands of dollars on an espresso machine is - espresso is brewed with steam and water, at a pressure of 9 bars. That is the more traditional way of making an espresso with delicious crema on top. The texture of an espresso plays a huge part. Thw 'cheaper' machines mimic that crema by artificially forcing air into coffee (like blowing bubble through a straw). I gues this is why people don't take 'budget' espresso builds very seriously, because it is not a real espresso. That body can't be mimiced. Once again, the best cup of coffee is what the person enjoys. I thought you would enjoy this nerdy breakdown :P Thanks for the video.
@BenVallack2 ай бұрын
I'd be really interested in the breakdown of how the Outin works in terms of its crema - i.e how 'fake' it is compared to a proper machine. They say the pressure in 20 bar so I'm wondering why that is so much higher than 9.

I think you could get the price down even lower with the wacaco picopresso or flair neo flex but it's a good kit. I got the Kingrinder k2 and I really love it. Tamping pressure does not matter by the way,as long as you tamp hard enough to compact the coffee and press out all the air it's not a variable you need to worry about.
@KaledTV2 ай бұрын
cool kit, it would have been better for me if it wasn't powered by a battery, I value the long life span and reparability over the convince of a battery. For a more adventurous type of person like you who needs his coffee on the go it seems perfect, cool video mate.

Ben i kid you not we must be very very similar people. This feels like something i myself would put together as does most of your videos. I however forego the grinder and buy pre ground (i mostly drink filter coffee) BUT i store the grounds in a vacuum-pumped jar to keep them fresh for longer ;) As always keep doing what you are doing and i legitimatley hope to be able to talk with you someday, cheers from Sweden!
@micgalovic2 ай бұрын
Hand grinders will improve the coffee taste as long as you can get freshly roasted coffee for a price that you are willing to pay. Shouldnt be too difficult in Sweden. Hand grinders are also better suited for a coarser filter grind than finer espresso grind. I use aeropress with paper filters and timemore hand grinder. Its so fast, that Im done grinding and preparing aeropress when the water reaches boiling temp. Espresso dark roast blend a filter light roast single origin are two very different worlds.

To be fair, the machines in James Hoffman's "Bean to cup" video that you referenced are practically the most expensive domestic espresso setups that he presents. There are way cheaper combos of espresso machines and grinders in other videos, though, for sure, still much more expensive than the setup that you are presenting in your video.
@BenVallackАй бұрын
Yeah definitely a fair point but as you say the Outin is definitely really opening up the threshold for entry!
@Omikronik2 ай бұрын
Have you tried pour-over with a v60? i only drink pour-overs these days and a hario v60/switch is very cheap and lasts as long as you physically break it. I would recommend the switch because it makes it significantly less effort and gives a lot of options for recipes.

Hi Ben! Thanks for sharing - looks like a seriously good recommendation.
