This is probably the most vulnerable video I have made yet but I wanted to share my experience my experience with friendships.
Friendships are complicated and throughout the years, I've had many friendship groups. This is a story about how I've dealt with losing and gaining friends along this journey we call life.

A lot of guys don't actually care about real friendships, after school the priority becomes career and relationship and unless you can help them get girls or money, or have some other utility to them then they are not interested. To have a great friendship with someone else, they have to want it as much as you do and then the maintenance of it becomes easy, the problem is you need to be quite lucky to meet someone like that who also is your same age group + same interests + same location and good chemistry.

Hey bro thanks for sharing and it's not easy to talk about this stuff for guys especially. I've had a similar experience growing up and moving around to a lot of places, a lot of friends just move on or it's generally hard to keep in touch. I've always been comfortable with myself and spending time by myself but I definitely look at things like films and even other people and it feels like the relationships they have are different somehow, like I have to put in effort and be the one reaching out to keep things going. It's easy to start "testing" friendships by not reaching out as much and seeing that they don't contact you first, and that can be super re-affirming of your worst fears. I think the reality is that things are difficult for everyone, especially in moving into early adult life, suddenly you're not forced to be in the same space as your closest friends and to foster really close friendships it needs way more effort, and your perception can change because of media and social media especially, everyone seems to be living life on easy mode when it comes to this sort of stuff but behind the curtain we're all going through the same shit. It's really tough to break that perception, especially given experiences in the past because you're always going to look for evidence that "they don't want to be friends really" or "this friendship doesn't look like what everyone else is experiencing" and that can make you retract even more. It's really really hard right now but I think it's important to try and shift your mindset to making an effort even if it looks like people aren't doing the same, hopefully something actually worth spending your energy on will fall out. I don't know if you've had the same experience but being a brown guy growing up in the UK, sometimes it's also hard to relate to people from my culture and background, but you don't 100% fit in with the "british" crowd either. Thanks for putting this out there and sharing your experience, it makes me feel like I'm not alone in going through this kind of thing. Keep killing it brother, it's a long journey but we will get there. ✊

That’s a good perspective to have in regards to friendships in general. It is something I have been thinking lately too and have come to the conclusion that it’s best not to hold such high expectations towards friends and neither wish that friendships will last forever. Just accept the friendship as it is bc only time will reveal who are our real friends

Man first thank you for leaving such a thoughtful and deep comment. I honestly read this with a smile ear to ear. I completely agree more with everything you’ve said - social media, our perception of the way things should be can ruin relationships so the onus is on us to make the effort and try. Everyone is going through their own battles internally and we never know how someone truly feels. As a brown guy growing up in Britain, you’re right I’m an outsider to the culture especially when I have my own values. You’re definitely not alone man and I appreciate you so much for sharing your experience! I hope we can remain in touch somehow ❤️
