Gabe I was thinking about you and your visit to Israel/Palastine recently and what has happened in the last 24 hours. I am glad you are safe as you never know what is going to happen in this crazy world. My heart breaks for those innocent folks that have been killed,tortued,and taken hostage. Thanks for taking us all on adventures that seem amazing. Stay safe!

Red telephone boxes in the UK were mostly replaced by glass ones in the 1980s, and then those mostly disappeared with the advent of cell phones. The few red ones which remain are either in historic areas or in villages and those now often host book libraries or defibrillators.

I suggest you go to the Yorkshire Dales and also the Lake District- some of the most beautiful scenery you will find anywhere and marvellous walks to go on. Ignore the chronic moaners in the U.K. - plenty of them which the U.K. is famous for - but truth be told outside of London most things are affordable and the U.K. of course is full of extraordinary history at every turn. A wonderful country.

You don’t need an Oyster Card for transport in Greater Londen as contactless (debit or credit card) does the same trick and saves you the costs and hassle of buying an Oyster card and topping it up. An Oyster card is useless to and from standaard airport anyway. As many people have pointed out, Standsted is not London. It is in Essex. Not sure why you did not stay closer to the airport terminal and arranged transport from there. Rather than walking on that rural area that is not welcoming for pedestrian at all. Or chose another airport. Funny you basically walked by the X40 bus stop and did not notice… Anyway. You’re such an experienced traveller, a bit of more research would’ve gotten you a far better travel experience 😉
@GabrielTravelerVideos
@GabrielTravelerVideos 11 ай бұрын
The hotel was literally right next to the airport. I don't have time to do in-depth research on the exact situation of every hotel that I stay at. You can't be prepared for every circumstance and what may or may not have been the better choice after the fact, it's all part of the adventure.
@john43397

It's cheaper to pay for London transport by tapping in your normal credit card (for one off trips). Oyster cards are only cheaper if you know for sure you will be travelling through all four London zones and doing multiple trios in one day or for however long you purchased the Oyster card for. Also the traditional London red phone boxes disappeared long ago they are only keep for tourists to take photo's in a few central London locations. Also Stanstead is not in London it's in the County of Essex. a one hour train bus or coach ride from London

Welcome to England! I know Stansted well and those roads are not great for walking (as you have shown!). It's incredible that you were so close to the airport yet it's such a pain to get to the terminal, unfortunately there was no other option and walking to a 510 bus stop was the cheapest way to go (although there was one before the one you found). The Stansted Express train would have been another option once you got to the terminal, I think it's about £20 and goes straight into London Liverpool Street which is in the City of London. Have a great trip!

Love the Couteau Twins, Gabriel. I can tell you think little of the UK and that is why you never show it's amazingly beautiful side, but that's ok, as I live here and have found paradise many times on these wonderful isles. I like your travel videos because they show me places I will never visit or particularly want to. Keep up the good work. Your capacity for getting lost is hilarious 🤣 🥁🎶🎺☀️🙏😊

I love the UK actually. This was my sixth time there. I haven't filmed most of my trips there for various reasons, including my first trip when I was 18, since that was long before youtube. And I went on a road trip last year through England, Wales and Scotland but was taking a break from filming, so didn't post any videos of that one.

@@GabrielTravelerVideos aww glad to hear it. The UK is widely filmed anyway, and Instagram posts have highlighted its many beauties. The backdrops to airports and stations in most countries are pretty mundane & unattractive; never reflecting the hidden gems that lie within. So looking forward to your next destination, Gabriel, which no doubt, will have me on the verge of a nervous breakdown.; keeping me on my toes 🤣🎶☀️🙏

Gabriel you can get an extension on your 90 day visit… all you need is a good reason and being a travel vlogger it is a good reason. Have you tried getting an extension?
@GabrielTravelerVideos
@GabrielTravelerVideos 11 ай бұрын
From what I've heard getting an extension isn't really an option, unless you apply for a digital nomad visa, something like that, which is certainly worth considering. If anyone has any further info feel free to share it. But either way it's all good because I've been in Europe for almost five months, it's time to move on.

First time watching - You had me worried sick when you were walking along that country road with the flow of the traffic. Try to remember to always walk against the traffic flow (in any country) if there are no footpaths so you can see the traffic coming towards you. Much safer 👍

There are other factors such as how much room there is to walk on either side, if there's a big truck coming, on tight corners it's better to be on the outside edge, etc.

Dont be caught out some airports that serve London. . Luton,[35 miles] Gatwick[28 miles] ,Stansted Airport [prefix London] Stansted is 40 miles from London, its an airport that provide cheap flights, and package holidays. Burton End is in the country side. Heathrow is expensive, for flights main carriers, 16 miles and you can reach London on the Tube 40 minutes .The oyster card £7, then top up. London is manic. I live near Heathrow, and born in London , and yes you will find it very expensive.Looking forward to your adventure.

Well, Gabriel, if you operate with the Stansted Airport only, the interesting academic city of Cambridge is nearer than the center of London from there. But yes, I believe that you also have other three London main airports in mind when you want to fly from there.

In many country areas where there are few actual bus stops, given it is safe for them to do so, a bus will stop if you signal with plenty of warning. That lay-by at 9:27 for example.

That would have meant stopping at a particular spot and waiting for a ride which, as you know, often takes a while, possibly hours. Better in this case to just keep walking to the next bus stop and make some progress. Depends on the particular situation. In a recent video in Cyprus I mentioned that I'd attempted to hitchhike through a city at one point, because no buses or taxis were coming. I've actually been a hitchhiker for forty years (since I was a kid). I've hitchhiked in 21 countries, hitchhiked to Alaska, hitchhiked the entire length of the UK, hitchhiked over the Himalayas of India and have written a book on the subject: www.amazon.com/Following-My-Thumb-Gabriel-Morris/dp/1846948495

Traveling around the UK and Rep. of Ireland isn’t as challenging as traveling around the USA. I found it is essential for travel in the UK and RI to research everything thoroughly and in advance of traveling there as much as possible. You pay a premium for public transportation unless you purchase tickets in advance when possible. Most everything went smoothly for us . One thing I liked was the tap fare with credit cards on the London transport. I think it tops off at 7.5 pounds, and thereafter there are no more charges for riding during the same day. One thing didn’t like was the train from Oxford to Liverpool . I had purchased reserve seats. The carriages were all crowded and those who occupied our reserved seats would not surrender them.

In 1990 I hitchhiked from London to Cornwall, then to John'O'Groats, passing through Wales and the Lake District, then across Scotland to the Isle of Skye and eventually a ferry over to Ireland.
